Ranger melting pot.. What can I do?!

Hi! I have aquired a ranger melting pot. I have no idea what to do with it! can anyone tell me what type of things I could do with it in relation to altered art, scrapping and card making, and what additional things I would need? If anyone can show me projects they have use it on that would be great as I'm quite a visual person... All I can imagine right now is me burning my arms off!! lol thanks all

you can melt ultra thick embossing powders to pour into moulds (like flowers) these can be used on canvases etc, you can heat clear ute and pour into memory frames that have small charms etc on top of the glass to encase them, you can dip things into the melted ute like paper flowers etc

if you have a project pan you can melt beeswax, crayons, soap.....and chocolate (keep a seperate pan for this)...the beeswax is fun you can stamp onto tissue then when dry apply the stamped tissue onto a canvas using the melted beeswax using a brush.

you can melt friendly plastic as you can heat water in the melt pot..

there are so many ideas ...watch Hels tomorrow and see some new stuff they are doing for the melt pot

hope that's given you food for thought I love mine

Oh wow, thank you for the info, the videos are fab! I love the second one very much! The only thing I couldn't catch was what the coloured powders are that she melted? Are they embossing powders? I'm gonna have to give those a try! Thank you!

yes they are UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamel) - they are quite expensive but they give a wonderful effect. I love having a go with my melting pot - but don't really get much time to play these days.

let us see some of your projects when you've done them.

    this one is gorgeous too

Im getting excited myself lol just a few last quick questions.. UTEE is quite expensive... Can I use ordinary embossing powders instead?

Can I buy a clear UTEE and colour 'set pieces' with my promarkers
Can I use clear UTEE and add a little coloured normal embossing powder for colours instead of having to buy lots of different expensive coloured UTEE?

    Thanks again for any help!

    morning -

I use clear and colour with a little coloured utee - you don't use as much colour then.

difficult using ordinary embossing because the projects need that thickness.

but I have coloured clear utee with ordinary embossing powder and a bit of glitter etc. You can also add small beads to the melt pot - a quick mix in before you pour and cut your piece or whateyou'ver you are doing.

you've got me wanting to get home from work to play with mine now this afternoon.

    roll on 1 pm.

I love using the meltpot, one of my favourite tools!
However I would not recommend putting alcohol ink in with UTEE as it is flammable and could cause a little accident! I would colour with alcohol ink after the piece you have made is cooled. The only way you could possibly use alcohol ink is if you mix it with dry UTEE and allow it to dry before melting. you can see a great video from Ranger here on colouring UTEE
    Hope this helps

P.S. we have lots of UTEE on our website, and I often have workshops at the shop using the meltpot

Is there a specific 'mat' I need? The videos pour their work onto a mat, what type is that? Thanks!

I use a silicon baking mat - available from virtually everywhere - Tescos, Sainsburys, Lakeland. But you can also buy craft specific heat resistant mats from most sponsors.
I have only recently bought a melt pot - but absolutely love it - loving this thread and all the tutorials too xxx

The mats are called non stick mats and are heat resistant .. mind you I wouldn't pour hot UTEE onto your best French polished dining room table even with a mat! The most important thing for me, especially when teaching is to watch you don't burn yourself as the UTEE can get extremely hot!
