I appear to have killed the thread ....

Anyway, I have a question. I've just applied gesso through a stencil with a credit card, but the resulting image is very fuzzy, and I think the gesso crept around the cut-outs. What did I do wrong? I don't really want to spray my stencil with spray-mount or anything

Same thing happens to me I can't seem to get a clean image that way even though I press the stencil down really hard

Evening all ... just posted this in General but I will probably do better posting here

Hopefully someone can help ... this is for someone who has all of them (or rather - the colours I am enquiring about)

I already have the old colours and I just got the new colours today ... the new Calypso Teal looks VERY similar to the Vibrant Turquoise and also the new Dirty Martini looks very much like Cut Grass

Can someone who has actually tried them, let me know how similar they are, are they almost identical or is there a big difference once they are sprayed?

BTW - the new ones are still sealed which is why I don't know !!!

    Thanks

have to say, when I've used gesso to stencil I've pounced it on top, not spread it with a credit card, my gesso's maybe a bit thin...
Might be the surfaces it's being applied to - are they too absorbent?

I've not tried using gesso to stencil, but it may just be too thin to apply with a credit card. I would think a stencil brush would work better.

Modelling paste with a palette knife works really well

I use acrylic effect paste which works quite well. It's thicker than my gesso so that might be the reason why

My gesso usually spreads too far too.

I just had the best afternoon making this among other things.

You've all gone again! Am going to put some stuff on the Marketplace - Distress inks, distress paints, and some Martha Stewart punches, so if you want any of them shout!

Am very proud of myself for working outside my comfort zone - splodging paint about, dribbling ink, and doing wobbly (as opposed to straight) writing! Gotta say that it doesn't come naturally though ....

There is very little difference between the turquoise colours of Dyan's spray inks. Dirty martini is different to cut grass though. I was quite disappointed with the blues.

In what way? Were they not blue enough, iykwim? I've notice a lot of teal and sea greens and blues recently... I love teal, but do miss real blue...

hello one and all - I still pop in from time to time to have a nosey at your artwork / journals etc - STILL LOVING THEM, but cannot do it myself - it just does not flow for me, and the two art journal books I created I cannot bring myself to look at really because I just do not consider them to be good !

BUT ................... still love to look at yours.

so thank you for sharing them with us.

Does it actually matter if they are "good" or not? For me the point of journalling is to do it for yourself! Anyway, did you like your early efforts at scrapping? I rest my case. The more you do the more it flows, but I think you have to approach it with honesty ... journal about things that matter to you rather than just trying to make pretty pages with someone else's words on them. Nothing else works for me, but then I have SO much to say!!
