    August's project, step by step!

    1. From your four patterned papers, select the plainest design for the background.

    2. Choose one of the single-colour patterns and cut a box 6x11.5 inches.

    3. Round the two bottom corners of that box and ink all four edges. I used a dark brown distress ink.

    4. Adhere this box to the background at the bottom of the page, leaving a 1/4" frame on three sides.

    5. Cut a 1x12 inch strip of the multi-colour print. Attach this just below the top of the 6x11.5 box.

    6. Using punches, dies, an electronic cutter or tracing and some scissors, cut a variety of sizes of circles from the three patterned papers in your page kit. (Two of them you have already used, one you haven't used until now.)

    7. Attach these to the top right corner of the layout, tucking some edges under the patterned paper box and letting some circles go off the edge of the page (just trim off the excess). Be sure to overlap the pieces rather than spreading them all out. Attach some of the smallest pieces with pop dots to emphasise the layering.

Warning! Look ahead before you do all the gluing in step 7. There is some underlapping which may be difficult if you use immoveable adhesive in this step.

    8. Round the top left corner of the 4x6 accent card. Attach this so the bottom edge appears tucked under the 6x11.5 box and some circle pieces sit on top.

    9. Attach three 4x4 photos in a row across the bottom half of the page. (If you want to salvage some of the paper you're going to cover, you can do this at this point - but if it's not an absolute favourite you want to keep using, it's great to have that extra layer for stability when working with patterned paper as a background.)

    10. Find a good place on the top half of the page for your remaining 4x4 print. Tuck at least one corner under some of the circle elements so the embellishment connects to the photo.

    11. Write on and attach a label either on or near the photos in the bottom right corner.

    12. Start your title with the smaller of the two alphabets you've selected.

    13. I selected Mistable Thickers for my title, so at this point they needed to be coloured accordingly. I used spray mist, but they can also be coloured with markers, ink pads, chalks, watercolours, acrylic paint or other coloured dyes. Be sure they are dry before moving on.

    14. Complete the title with the larger of the two alphabets.

    15. Add your writing to the journaling card.

    16. Attach a few more circles of patterned paper to the bottom left corner to continue the paper embellishment. Again, overlap and let the circles run off the edge of the paper for the most natural look.

    17. Take care when placing any circles that are the same pattern as the 6x11.5 block. It's best to attach them in a spot where there is another layer between that circle and the background box. Even better to attach there with pop dots to separate the two even more.

    18. Trim the edges of the circles and ink the edges of the full layout.

    19. Attach another label in this corner to bridge the gap between the different circle pieces. If you want more embellishment, you can add it at this stage - sprinkle gems or small punched shapes in with the paper circles, add stitching or staples or twine perhaps.

    20. That's everything all done - another layout into your album!

Now it's your turn to give these twenty steps a try with your own photos and supplies. Share your results with us in the gallery!

    Happy scrapping!

While I've done similar pictures - never ever did they even come close to the genius of this layout!! Thanks Shimelle, once again, for lending us your brain for the day!!

I will say in my defence, that I wasn't actually there! I don't do fishing, DH took the pics. I like to think I would have been a little more sympathetic.

I had to use the photos from a year where Britain has done us proud on the world stage. I even used one of your photos Shimelle, thank you for allowing us to use them.

Have just been spreading the love and leaving comments on as many LO's in the anfscd gallery (from the past month or so) as I could. I'm not fishing for people to leave me comments but just wanted to say well done to all of us following this challenge - we are producing some amazing pieces of work (with help from the wonderful and very inspiring Shimelle) and should all be really pleased with our efforts.

I just cut some 6 x 4 photos down to size - luckily I had some with background that could be removed!

    Thanks for another great project.

I adapted the bottom section for two landscape photos and substituted washi tape for the label stickers. I didn't like all the circles last month but I found them mush easier to work with this time.

Papers are Echo Park This & That and the photos are from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in 2003.
