    July's Project, Step by Step

Start with a full sheet for the background (solid or patterned, as you prefer) and a set of photos in your favourite size and number. Adhere them to your background, but place your adhesive at least an inch away from each edge of the photo, so you'll be able to tuck papers under later.

Find (or cut) a scrap the same height as your photos.

Make a point to use tools you don't normally remember to use. I grabbed a border punch I hadn't used in months to fancy up this strip and tucked it under the right side of the photos.

Find another scrap that will fit well between the right edge of the photos and the right side of the layout. Adhere to the page.

Look for scraps with designs you could cut apart. Start by cutting three pieces, but keep the paper on hand so you can come back to it later.

Adhere these so they are layered in a cluster to the right of the photographs. To create dimension, attach pop dots to just the top of one or two pieces, using regular flat adhesive at the bottom of the same shape.

Look for other tools you don't often use and find ways to layer them or include them in the grouping. Dies, punches or magical electronic cutters are all fair game. Or you could use a stamp you've been ignoring to stamp a shape then cut it out with scissors.

I used two punches - a scalloped circle and an airplane. Use pop dots to add dimension if your embellishment feels too flat.

Look through your scraps for something extra special you keep saving. Fancy papers can sit in our scraps for ages waiting for the perfect page to come along, but sometimes we need to remember to just use them rather than letting them wait! I picked this camera-print transparency and cut it to fit on top of the green scrap. Your pick doesn't have to be a transparency - this is just a nudge to include something from the special paper category!

Repeat some of the same elements used at the bottom right at the top left of the photos. Remember you can tuck things under the top picture to bring the design together.

Cut many pieces from your scrap papers in a simple, small shape. I used a small circle punch.

Scatter most of these above the embellishment at the bottom right and some above the embellishment nearer the top left. Let some of the shapes hang off the edge of the paper and trim them back by flipping the page over.

Add the large words in your title on top of the repeated shapes. In the spirit of working with scraps, I used letter stickers that had already been used a few times, and let the letter choices remaining help inform the words of the title.

Additional words can be added with smaller stickers. If the larger letters for a gap in the page design, like to the left of the 'C' in this example, look for ways to fill that, like turning one word on its side.

Add your writing near the shapes at the top left. Use their scattered position to make a staggered margin on the left side as you write.

A bit of additional writing works well below your photos, in the margin at the bottom of the page too.

Take a look at the scraps you have remaining from what you've used so far. Use them to form a grouping at the bottom left corner of the page.

A few ink dots or small gems near the three areas of embellishment will help add a finishing touch. If you're splattering ink, be sure to cover your photographs.

If there are still a few too many gaps in your design, look for a stamp or two you would like to use more and bring that into these areas.

To bring everything together, use the stamp or other items (like the washi tape) a little in each of the three areas of embellishment... then stop when you're happy!

    And there's your finished page!

Give it a try - there's LOTS of freedom this time around, so see how you can interpret each step to your own liking, and use up some scraps!

Looking forward to giving this a go in the next couple of days. Looks like fun but I'm not going to be able to use up nearly as many scraps as I'd hoped for! LOL

Shimelle this is your best yet in NFSCD. Scrapped with a friend this p.m. and we both really love the pages we've made, even though they are very different.
