I googled scrapbooking sheffield and found this.
ETA not a lot of use. I just noticed the date.

Me and my Mutt
Jo who used to run Sheffield Scrapaholics still runs classes but as an SU demo these days, and one of her team runs a crop somewhere in the city (and no its not a CM style one!)
PM if you would like her details.

Dedicated Scrapper
this thread was intresting and i can quite believe some people can be downright nasty.
layouts are all about your taste and what you want from your photographs.
having said that i have done classes over time some ive enjoyed depends on the photos, some waiting to be finished.
so just enjoy your hobby and just remember no one can tell you what to do.

Girl with a mission to SHOP.....
Im afraid I have just done the Tim Holtz on line class, so if it stands still long enough, its distressed! Also , Tims Stamps are a bit depressing to the untrained eye!.........dull, though?......I thought it suited!!!! (and yes it does! however, even in my current state of enthusiasm for all things distressed, I wouldnt want to scrap for instance, my two year olds Barbie party in it......)

Need more time.....
But equally you probably wouldn't want to use fancy scissors on your barbie layouts!

Sunny Side Up!
I'm just in the process of organising a regularish Nottingham crop - just really for the chance to meet other crafters and have a natter! I appreciate it's a bit far from Sheffield, but you'd be most welcome.
I think that people who sit in judgement on other people's creativity are often squaring up to prevent anyone actually seeing their work.... Good luck with your friend developing her scrapping, I hope she's not dreadfully put off.

I was rich before I found scrapbooking!
Going back to your original post, I would certainly not be going back. Scrapbooking is a very personal thing and there is no right or wrong. We all started somewhere and usually very basic till we got to grips with it.
I hope your friend doesn't give up as I love this hobby and have made some great friends through crops.

Determined to reduce the stash and photo pile
Oooh I'd love know about a Nottingham crop too! To the OP I can't believe someone told you that your work was 'wrong' - surely the point is to share ideas and to help others learn NEW techniques not to judge their work
