    February's project, step by step

Of the three neutral cardstock sheets, choose the middle tone for the background and leave this 12x12. Cut one of the patterned papers to 10x10 and attach to the centre of the background.

Border punch a strip of cardstock from the other colour.

Repeat this six times: three strips in the light colour and three strips in the dark colour. Use any border punch you want, but the same border on each strip.

Adhere the bottom border strip so it is flush at both edges of the background cardstock and straight across the page. Place it roughly 4" from the bottom of the page.

Take the opposite colour and move the punched design slightly to offset it. Some punches will look great offset, others will look better perfectly in line, so have a look and see what's best. If you end up with a gap lining them up, leave that gap on the left side of the page so you have a clean edge on the right.

Repeat with all six border strips. Oooh, pretty!

Add a strip of tulle netting above all the punched strips. Adhere just at the bottom, which will be covered. (If you don't have tulle, look for other sheer items in your stash, including vellum and other ribbon/fabric items.)

Cover the join with a length of washi tape (or a border sticker if you prefer).

Cut a 5x7 piece of paper from the remaining pattern. Adhere this on the left side of the page, covering up any messy edges from the punched strips.

At this point decide how many photos you want to include. You will need one block of paper for every one or two photos, depending on if you want photos on both sides or just one. Cut these blocks to 4.75x6.75 (though exact measurement is not needed).

    (continues in next post!)

Stack up all the layers you want to include and lightly tack them down on the left side of the page just so you can keep them in place - not permanently.

Cut a length of fancy ribbon to go at the right side, adhered to the background but not attached at the left edge which overlaps the stack of paper. It should just lay on top of the stack.

At this point, if you are using multiple photos you need to make a decision: do you want the book of photos inside the page protector (better protected but you have to take the page out to see the other pictures & writing) or outside the page protector (less protected but easy to flip through and see everything). If you want this outside the page protector, have a look at the remaining elements and come back to the photo book step once you have placed the page in the page protector, and secure the additional pages from the outside, with the brads right through the front of the page protector to the cardstock. If you want this inside the page protector, you can continue in the order the pictures are posted.

Pierce three holes at the left and secure the stack of papers.

Add photos and writing to the pages.

Consider adding small pieces of washi tape to the photos and any journaling spots you may have added to the photo book.

Add the title at the top right.

Write brief journaling below the photo book - you can add more along the bottom or add a page or more inside the book itself.

Draw a pen line around the patterned paper box for definition.

Finish with any touches that seem appropriate for your album: I added white ink splatters.

Celebrate a completed layout with a little something different to try in just twenty steps!

Just checking what meals I have in the freezer for tea as I'm definitely doing this LO today!

Used old papers and embellishments and its looking great so far. Thanks Shimelle for getting me going again with my scrapbook pages. Looking forward to next months.

That is soooo pretty! I am def going to have a go at this. I am thinking that I will put the LO in the plastic wallet and then cut around the book so that it can be opened whilst still in the wallet.

    Loved doing the LO Shimelle!!

As you can see, I adapted it slightly - ie, lace in "wrong" to cover up mistake ; also had ribbon to tie the booklet instead of brads.

I alos include detail of the booklet which has several pages, again I adapted the pages and used the same punch to have stepped page length to show some colours as I felt it was too green.

I loved The LO so much that I have copied it totally, except for a slight accident with some spray ink but fixed it now. I will photo it when it's dry. I love your mini book Magellis
