LOL, glad you all understand where I'm coming from with that nature/nurture thing. It's something I've thought about a lot, going through phases of worrying that I've somehow 'made' DS the way he is!. But I have to say that the older he gets the more it levels out - as long as he is generally happy that's all I care about now!

It's not like me to journal about personal things, it's something I struggle with. But the positive responses from people are really encouraging, thanks.

Here is my first page for last week's prompt to doodle. This one turned out more like a journalling page. And here is my second page, Im not sure doodling is for me after seeing some of the beautiful pages people have done.

Sue, this is great! Perfect example of adding doodles to a digital page!

Gosh I'm well behind now - been so busy playing with my new toy over the last few days that everything else has taken a back seat - food and h*******k included lol... (sorry, almost swore there...)

I had hoped to have a good catch-up over the weekend but the Cricut forum kinda put paid to that, so much stuff I wanted to read and catch up on...

Question on this weeks theme tho - what are heavy body acrylics? and how do they differ from bog standard acrylics? I've got Hobbycraft cheapo acrylics, but have also treated myself to a couple of Claudine Hellmuth's Studio Line acrylics - where do they fit in?

Suzie I was wondering that too. Maybe someone more experienced will come along to explain

Claire - the droplets on the journalling page were made by flicking water over the distress inks - but beward - another lesson learned - some of the ink soaked through onto my previously completed yellow page which now has fetching blue splodges on it grrrhh!

A lot of artists grade acrylic paints come in two formulations, heavy body and fluid - heavy body paints are thicker in texture - if you put it on thick, for example, and ran through it with a comb, the marks would remain as the paint dried. Whereas fluid acrylics are much runnier and would generally settle flat as they dried.

Also heavy body acrylics are usually fully opaque, a lot (but not all) of fluid acrylics have a level of transparency to them

Both tend to have a glossy-ish finish

Craft acrylics, like the Hobbycraft ones, are somewhere in between and tend to have a more matte finish

I'm not sure about the Claudine paints as I don't have any of those....

I hope that has helped a bit?

you beat me to it Sarah!

Claudine Hellmuths paints I would say sit between your craft paints and HB Acrylics as they are opaque but quite thin, the range is also have a decent pigment level in them and they have a semi gloss finish.

The Liquitex HB Acrylic I have used this week have a satin finish, are highly pigmented and are extremely smooth. They are ideal if you hate the chalky finish of your craft acrylics - like the dabber.

Having said that - this week's class isn't about you buying new paints, it's about using acrylic paints - any will do. You will need a set of 3 co-ordinating colours and 1 contrasting colour. Mix them from what you have if you need to.

Soz Vicki, wasn't trying to butt in, wasn't sure if you were around....

I always wondered what everyone was on about when they said they don't like chalky paints - but I think that's because I just don't have any matt finish paints. I did try a couple of the Ranger dabbers when they first came out but they dried up on me (wouldn't "dab") and I couldn't get on with them at all.

Thanks for explaining ladies. I have some of the dabbers but when they dont "dab" I just unscrew the lids and use them as paints. Dont think Id buy any more though just go for normal paints.

Vicki Im glad we wont need to be buying new stuff to have a go. Im looking forward to seeing tomorrow's promt

No probs Sarah. I'm sitting working on the laptop today so have UKS open in the background.

The dabbers are very chalky to the touch but for the price I think they are excellent value and a great range of colours.

Rangers changed the formula a little while ago so the paint is more fluid. I haven't had any problems with the new one's drying up so far. You do have to watch though when you buy new ones as they suddenly come flooding out - bit of a shock! Made me "eeek" rather loudly when I first did it.

I know I have a shop, but I don't want the classes I do to be about buying new things. I want them to be guides to using what you have in your journals. Some classes will be about specific products you may want to know more about, but hopefully give you a chance to see if what al the fuss is about, and consider if they are things you want to get into. I will suggest alternatives where possible. HTH's.

Right - off to pick up prodical child number 2, then hang around until number 1 is finished. Let the madness begin!
