That was my motivation for looking at courses. I think on some level I do 'know about' these methods, but am either too thick or too lazy or too timid to stretch myself to try them. Sad me! Anyway, I've now posted my first 'she-art' lady on my blog. Yes, it's one of those ladies with an odd look. I'm not particularly fond of this one, but hey-ho....it's a start.

I can't afford to splash out on courses after spending on building up my supplies so I have been scouring the net for free inspiration, came across this which is OK

just came by looking for inspiration, creating an art journal for 52 questions challenge on UKS, trying to learn lots of new techniques this year. I have chosen the wrong type of book leather bound with hand made and hand stitched paper. I have trouble keeeping it open and the inks, paints etc bleed through the pages. I have been advised to gesso the pages so i guess i got to go shopping.

Looking through your links and galleries. Great work.

Another tip i came across kell was to put a strip of masking tape down the middle of the 2 pages where they join before you gesso it will help stop the bleed through to the pages behind

They are lovely Terri, great for covering larger areas and nice rich pigment (well the Neocolour I have do anyway). I have a few different watercolour pencils and they are nice for doing more delicate things or smaller areas, but the Neocolour have really strong colours and because they have a larger tip you can quickly cover an area. I find it I just want a little bit of colour then I wet a brush and rub it on the crayon to pick up some colour, rather than putting actual crayon on paper.

Our local, not very large, WHSmith stock them so would imagine any decent art shop would if you have any nearby.

Thanks for the blog note! It always makes me feel better to know someone actually VISITS my blog.....

I've been saving faces for art journals, but have just started so don't have many. I know Dyan Reavely of Art From the Heart uses lots of magazine pics in her journaling. I hope we'll get to see some of yours, Salamanda!

Well I have been playing all day, laundry not done, dinner not cooked but I have done 3 pages and made a really startling discovery. I CAN DO THIS. I am much happier with the end result than I have EVER been with a scrapbook page

Ohh! Can I ask some questions? I am considering signing up for the next session but can't quite make my mind up.. How are you finding it? Are the video's clear and easy to follow (I'm deaf so a bit about that!)? Is it very involved with the forums or can you dip in and out? I was wondering how real life would fit in with it!

    thanks, becs
