I mostly Inkscape (version 0.48). I also have SS on my computer although it is fairly new to me and doesn't do as much as Inkscape (there are some tuts in the tutorial section) you can't save SS files as GSD's they have to be saved as Studio files.
It was the designmanager I bought - the original version. Wasn't too keen on it, but was happy using inkscape if I remember correctly.

I dont mind buying software (someone has put time & effort into it afterall), I just want something that does the job well. Used to weld and make letter frames and print and cut etc, in inkscape I think.... its a bit of a blur with everything thats happened in the last couple of years.

Thanks ladies, need to dust off the old robo!

I have started using Studio just recently cos I have found that it cuts alot better than Robomaster. Some of the designs I have downloaded from UKS have taken ages to cut so I now just open them in Studio and they cut in no time. Thumbs up to Studio.

If I may say, I have found, that, if the file was made in RM, it cuts the same whether RM or SS is used, but, if using a converted GSD file which maybe cuts very slow or juddery in RM, then it definitely cuts better in SS. HTH

Yes I have had a look at the files and you are right , it is the converted GSD files. I am so glad that Studio cuts faster on converted files, as I have one which I love and when I first cut it it took hours now it cuts in minutes.

Lol I now use a program that I can't say because it belongs to a different machine but the converstions to GSD are brilliant ...the only thing thats a pain is you have to open it up and group everything or weld it again.

Depends on what you think is important. Do you want to be your files available for other softwares? install Robomaster. You can open GSD in SS, but you can also print to PDF in Robomaster so you can open that PDF in Designmaster or Inkscape, or illustrator.

When you want to design and experiment, and not want to ever use another software choose SS. Lots of tools and still expanding and developing, but you can only save as a studio file and you can not open that format in any other software.

Just catching up on the CR forum and boy, what a lot has been going on. I've been looking at quite a few of the threads here regarding SS and I'm away to download it now. In this thread, when you are saying converted files cut better, what do you mean? What is converted to what? GSD to SS format?

I think it is the old .dxf to GSD conversion. The files used to shake the Robo to pieces. You can now open them in Studio and get a very smooth cut. HTH
