I adore my Panasonic Lumix FZ18; it is so easy to work; has 18 X zoom and I think it is the best camera I've invested in by far.

I bought a Panasonic FZ38 before Christmas and have been very impressed. I was tempted by others (including Canon above) but was put off by AA batteries (bulky and heavy) and also wanted the option of shooting in RAW (not that I actually have done, but thought it might be handy!).

I got a Panasonic Lumix FZ-18 about 18 months ago and loved it. Sadly it developed a problem with the battery shorting, but I got a refund and got the FZ-28 which is equally wonderful. I'm not that clever with cameras, and didn't think I'd cope with a 'real' SLR but this is great, mostly I use it in fairly automatic modes, but can play with the setting and it produces some great pictures, even in my hands!

If you search for Lumix or Panasonic on the Photography forum there are a stack of threads singing its praises, but you will also find some for other cameras such as the Canon

I got the panasonic fz38 for my birthday in October last year and loved it, however....I bought DH the sony HX1 for christmas and wish Id waited, its absolutley fab, really easy to use and the photos are by far better quality - and its a 20x optical zoom compared to the 18 x on the panasonic.

I went from a digital point and shoot to a bridge camera (Fuji) a couple of years ago. I then upgraded to a dull DSLR, and to be honest found the bridge restricting. I only had my bridge for just over a year when I upgraded to the full DSLR and it was the best move I ever made. If you are considering going for a bridge, think about making the jump straight to the DSLR, it is just as easy to use as a bridge in auto mode, and you have all the freedom to play to your hearts content when you get a bit more confident. Also think of the money you would save instead of making two jumps, you could use that towards extra lenses and other accessories!

I did a lot of research and came up with the Panasonic FZ18, but by the time I bought it had been replaced by the FZ28 model, which I absolutely love
