HI Joanne, I am no expert but I would say
Pink RV10, RV21, RV23 which is the pinks I used on the Bunny card I have on my blog or you can see it in the magnolia creations thread.
Blue for jeans B23 and B32 same as on my Tilda with bee card on magnolia thread again or my blog.
Purple V12 and V15 or V91 and V95 depending on the shade of purple you want.
    Browns E331, E33 and E 35
    Greens YG11, YG06, G14
and don't forget the most important colour 0 which is the blender
These are my most used colours and go together well but like everything else in life everyone has their own favourites. Hope it helps.

I'm nowhere near an expert but so far have found if I want to blend dark to light in the same colour it works best for me by having the same first number with maybe a difference of 2 or 3 after, eg a candy pink, rv21 and rv23 blend beautifully, rv29 is harder to blend with 21 as there's quite a big difference in the depth. If I want 2 different colours I like to keep the end number the same, b00 and g00 together give a really good transition of blue to green.

http://www.scrapbitz.blogspot.com/ has some good tutorials and she lists nice combos for things like hair.
