happy scrappy crafty girly
a printer which takes card easily??????
I am looking for a printer which will take card easily
I want to start selling wedding invitations and
would ideally like a printer which doesnt spit my card out!!!!
I already have a 3 in 1 but it just doesnt like card at all
so just a printer would do.
obviously it would need to print nice quality too
any suggestions????

I have an HP 3 in 1 and it also hates card. On a previous thread I gathered this was because the paper feeds from the front and has a tighter angle to go round. The printers where the paper stands at the back work better with card. I can't remember specific models but I'm sure Epson and Canon were mentioed as good.

Both my Epson and Canon have not probably with card and they are both top loaders.

Finally Happy!
My epson DX3850 takes card of Bazzill thickness quite happily - only one sheet at a time though, it wont automatically take it from the paper feeder, I have to coax it in by hand!

I have an epson 3 in 1 dx 8400,
it feeds from the back as suggested
but will not take my card
it just spits it back out without printing at all
think it has an attitude!!!!
its a good printer in every other way which is a shame really;o(

Unable to read a book without altering it..
I wish I'd checked before I bought my Espon 3-in-1. It won't take anything more than lightweight card and it won't take any kind of acetate or transparency either. Very annoying.
Hope you find a good one.

have you gone into setting on your printers, to check that it is set for thick paper.
i have this setting, but still have to coax thick card to go through it.
mine is the epson r340.

Let the good times roll.........
I used to have an Epson but got so fed up with hand feeding in card that I swapped it for an HP and I've not had any problems so far, in my experience it's the front loading ones (like HP) that take card better than the ones that you stick it in from the back because it pulls it forward and under instead of just trying to haphazardly suck it down . The only problem I've had with HP all in ones is the quality of the scanner isn't as good as the Epson all in ones so if you have room and want a very good scanner it's best to go with separates.

If I had the energy I'd have a midlife crisis
i've got an epson RX620 (a couple of years old) which is a 3-in-1, and its fine with most card, including some fairly thick stuff, but I do usually have to coax it slightly if its more than about 250gsm. Not really a "push" IYKWIM, but when it first starts to feed, the card/paper can jump up a little - I just put my hand on top to stop it jumping out of the feed rollers completely. Have to do this with the thicker photo paper too. Usually it prints fine once its properly fed in, I haven't had problems with it jamming.
I haven't had any problems with feeding transparencies, and I've also printed onto vellum OK without having to stick it onto a backing sheet.
However I've noticed if/when I have problems, its usually when I've done a run of something, as though the feed rollers get warm with repeated use, then they start slipping. Perhaps its because its well used & they are getting a bit worn?
I wonder if the rollers on all printers are factory adjusted to the same width/tension, or whether there is some variation that makes some individual printers better at handling card than others, even of the same model?
I also have an Epson D92 which is barely used, and the rollers on that are so tight that it marks thick card. This takes moderately heavy card OK, though I haven't tried it on the really thick stuff that the RX650 has problems with.
I agree with Gina G - I had loads of problems with my old HP, I always go for something with a straight paper path now. I've had 4 different epsons on the trot since then, and I can't say that feeding card has been an issue with any of them.

So agree with Leo on the scanner front. Have had to get separate scanner and only use 3in1 scanner to photocopy docs!

I have a Canon Mp130 3 in 1 and it will take most card thicknesses, although one at a time for very thick plus you can buy the really cheap compatible cartidges for about £1.00 each.
I also have a samsung clp300 laser colour printer, but sadly he doesnt like card at all not of any thickness and wont print onto foto paper, so wouldnt recommend that one.

I have this one mp610

Its the best printer I have ever had, it prints perfectly on thick card as well as transparencys and it produces beautiful photos. It also prints double sided as well
You feed card through the rear roller so it just slides through, from back to front, if you get what I mean. Its also a scanner

I have an HP Photosmart 8750 which takes 12x12 card front loading no probs at all.

Interesting thread. I have a front loading HP 3 in 1 C4180 and it can handle some card, but objects to the thick stuff. The thick card goes through the printer but the printing goes off line so you get a blurring and it can go a little squint.
