The challenge this month is "Layered Text and Flower Toppers".
The Inkscape tutorial is already in the DM section of Tutorials so please download from there, DM and RM are here.

Don't struggle alone post for help in this thread or PM the writer or me.
After working through the tutorial to learn how it is done, make one with your own design and font and if you don't have the time don't worry just let us see what you made while doing the tutorial. Do what I did when I tested it and change the colours
I was having problems with copying fonts into my fonts folder.
I downloaded fonts to a folder on my desktop. opened this folder and the fonts folder, but when I tried to drag the new font across I just got an error message 'unable to instal the font' (I did try more than 1).
I then tried to move the font, opened the windows folder and moved the new font into the fonts folder, but I cant find it anywhere now!
I'm attempting the July Newbie Challenge but I have a problem. I'm using DM and have made the three frames and surrounded each of them with the flowers but when I try to align them by pressing Alt + K and getting the centre horizontal and centre vertical screen, when I click on the two my frame and flowers move across the screen on top of the next frame and flowers. Help! What am I doing wrong? I'm going to give up now for the evening and will have another go tomorrow.

Hi Gloria, you're not doing anything wrong, it's my fault I'm so sorry, I didn't realise that there was a choice of what things aligned themselves to.
I should have asked you to make sure that the 'align to selected' button is activated. I have attached an image to show you where it is on the Smart Bar, and if you click it after clicking Alt + K and then click on the centre horizontal and centre vertical it should work properly.
I'm so glad you pointed this out, I will ask Lucille to add the extra information to the DM tutorial so that (hopefully) no one else will have this problem.
You're doing really well to have got this far so quickly. Well done.
Had started doing the original tut yesterday so had a bit of a headstart on this one. Finished the tut and then did this:
Font was Teen and I made the heart with two circles and a triangle.
I havent cut it but coloured the sections different colours. Little confused why the letters are all the same colour as they are not all on the same layer! I know - I think its cos they are small and the outline is red so guess you cant see the colour inside. Looks ghastly with the colours but hey!
Have attached the file for a look-see! When you go into it you need to zoom out or in (whichever way round it works) as the third layer is off to the right!

These challenges are great! Each one takes us further into the designing mode. Thank you Lucille for all the time and trouble you take making these tutorials. Have been out today but will try doing them tomorrow.
I tried the RM tut yesterday for this months challenge and although it explains everything in a lot of detail and takes you step by step, its soooo long, must have taken you ages to do Lucille (hats off to you!!) and I started to get muddles half way through, so I'll try again today.
Thanks Joyce. What a relief! I thought it was me not reading the instructions properly again. I'm really grateful for your help; I am at work at the moment but I hope to have another go after we've had dinner tonight (rats - the OH will insist on me feeding him before I get to play!).
