I use a good old paintbrush and Twinkling H2Os. Yesterday I was experimenting and adding the Twinkling H2Os direct to the stamps, and the colours were brighter than using inkpads so I was well pleased.

I use pencils (inc watercolour ones), brush pens (even cheap ones for kids work), chalks (including artists pastels and cheap eyeshadow) and water colour palettes. I also love the irridescent medium - it gives a lovely effect.

I have also tried colouring the stamp with brush pens and spritzing with water. It gives a lovely effect - especially with Hero Arts real wild flower stamps.

I use all the above as well as pearlescent acrylic inks diluted on a saucer. Some of the tinting mediums (metallics, pearlescent etc, found with the paint supplies in the art shops/range) can give fantastic effects with normal felts/paint.

I use watercolour pencils and an aqua painter - also love to use Twinkling H20's and my Stampin Up inks which double as paint pads!
