I've never tried pastel pencils before as I use the Caran d'Ache watercolour ones. I would also appreciate a heads up to a supplier. Thankyou.

I just bought the pastel pencils in an art shop about 2 years ago and never used them, recently I bought another 22 derwent ones as a shop close to me was shutting down, they are much more readily available than prismas... I think you can get them in hobbycraft too...

I have just bought some Sansodor to try and also some pastels, only a small tin. I have used all three sets of my pencils/pastels to see what results I can get,
The first one is using the pastels, I found these hard to spread and I don't think I would be able to get into small areas. But the colour is good.
The second one is using the Prisma's, now these blend like a knife through butter. Ok I needed to use a darker blue.
The last one are the Faber Castelle polychromos, these took a bit of work to blend compared to the other two but again they are ok.
The card I have used is 160gsm/200mic. I do need to practice a lot to get my shading right, but I think the Prisma's are my favourite.
For colouring technique, I just pencilled the colour on the outlined and dipped the paper stump in the sansodor and then dragged the colour towards the centre. I just thought I would share my experimenting with you all. I would be interested to know how others are using theirs.

Gosh isn't it interesting how we all find things different? I bought 2 polychromos by mistake but don't like them at all. I must try again with the prismas and sansodor but I still love the ease of the pastels and didn't find them at all hard in fact the opposite! Thanks for sharing your photo - btw she is a cutie, what make is she?

Its so interesting experimenting with all of these and I would say everyone of us would have different results. The stamp is Maggie from the Sugar Nellies range, available from Funky Kits (they are a sponsor on here). They are gorgeous and so cute.

Thanks for that Melanie, it is really good seeing everyone's take on the different pencils to use. I suppose at the end of the day it is what kind of look you are after but great fun trying out what is available.

Seeing the designs next to each other like that.. I like the Prisma's.. a softer blend.. I guess it's all down to each individual and how they work..
