Wizard hot foil machine
Hi
I was wondering has anyone bought one of these wizard hot foil machines? They retail at £89.50 and are advertised in this months "Making Cards". If you have is it any good

Apparently you can do the same thing with a black laser printer, foils and a travel iron.
A cheap laser printer (you can get them for £40) is on my list of things to buy when we move house (hopefully a bigger craft room!) and I have a travel iron in the loft. Just use rub on foils over the black image/text, put a sheet of copy paper on top and use the iron on low. I've seen some samples of it done and it looks great.
In the meantime, you can get the same effect using photocopied stuff. It's the toner in the machines that gets the foils to stick.
Hope that made some sense!?!?!?

Oooh will have to try that one...

Let the good times roll.........
Sounds interesting. Would silver embossing powder not do something similar too for a lot cheaper than a hot foiling machine? I suppose it depends on how many cards you were making or even for making backing papers I suppose, it could be quite fun!

Save your money. I bought one and can't get on with it at all. I made one card with it - it must be the MOST expensive card in the world. I would sell it but I don't know who would buy it to be honest.
Go with the printer idea.

Do you have to be fast with the laser printer befor the ink dries?
I've read about this before and am not 100% convinced if I should get one or not on a tight budget that I am.
Does anyone have a piccie they could post to demonstrate?

The piece I tested was from something I had printed off earlier yesterday morning and only applied the foil last night so it seems you don't have to do it right away

No, apparently it doesn't matter how long the stuff has been printed before you foil it.
Also, before anyone runs off and buys a laser printer, go use a photocopy and practice first.
Glad I was able to help!

Hubby bought me one of these for my birthday a few days ago after I had seen it demonstrated at the NEC last November.
I tried it out last night at my craft club and was pretty impressed. I like the fact that you can print out any greeting onto tracing paper and write over it to place a foiled greeting on a card.

Always remember you're unique...Just like everyone else.
They were demonstrating hot foil on a certian craft channel yesterday.
It doesnt matter how long ago you printed the stuff off and they were using a normal laminator and just putting a piece of card each side. the effect did look v good!
