    robo newbie help, please

I bought a second hand robo a while ago and due to family circumstances didn't get to use it till today. I followed Bev's tutorial and it worked fine except that it did not cut through properly. I put it through 3 times and it is still not cutting properly. Do you think it might need a new blade? And if so where would i get one? Thank you.

Have you adjusted the thickness and speed settings?

Don't know about speed but I made the thickness 30. It is bazzill. I put it through 3 times but it still wasn't clean through.

Sometimes it helps if you put an extra ring on which you can cut from the templates library and slow down the speed a bit (same screen as thickness)

I'm a newbie too! (My tutorial disk won't work so I need more help please )

Right firstly, Do you always cut card with the red? The picture on the software was a yellow doodah, so thats what I used to cut some card. It worked, but should I have used the red? Do you need to change the settings to tell it you're using the red one?

How do I change a file say a gif, to a gsd one please?

    Thanks so much!

i use the pink cap for everything with 2 'o' rings and set to thickness 30 and speed about 4/5, for all card, for anything else i just adjust the depth and speed depending on what i am cutting.

the only change i do is choose thick or thin media from the drop down menu

as fot the gif file open robo master and do insert if a gif is not supported, open it in your grahics program and copy and save it as a jpeg or bitmap, then go back to robo and insert again, then you will need to auto trace it to make it into a cutable outline for robo and save as a gsd file for future

If you are cutting that particular card nicely with your yellow cap - that's fine. You need only use the red for thicker card. There's no point in making the machine use more force if a lower setting works well, and you'll save wear & tear on your blade, carrier sheet and on the Robo. Different card may need different settings, and you'll soon get to know which are best for your machine. You can do a test cut (there's a button for this) to see if the settings you're using are OK, but basically you use blue for paper & vinyl, yellow for thin card, and the red cap for thicker card. Your aim should be to cut cleanly and just leave a slight mark on your carrier sheet.

Thank you Rosemary, I have read the previous replies, I just wanted clarification that I didn't need to change any other settings on the actual Robo Master program. I have read Bev's Tutorials, and I apologise if this is all repeating common knowledge. Its an expensive piece of kit that I don't want to break after its first use.

I now realise I need to download inkscape, in order to vectorise my pictures. I have microsoft image pro but thats no good.

I'm sure all newbies appreciate the advice given here.

    Thanks all!
