well i'm still trying this cut out word thing. ive made my word in open office and saved it to my desktop so i know where it is. how do i open it with cr now so that i can follow susibi instructions
did you save it in .dxf form?
If you did then open your CR software File >load .dxf and it will appear in your CR. If you didn't click on your .odg to open it and save again as .dxf.
If you don't have your file in a format CR software recognises then you won't be able to use it.

I've just been to Open Office and I think we had this problem before which is why they added the .odg format to the forum so you can upload. As far as I can see you can cut directly from Open Office but you can't save in .dxf so unfortunately - someone correct me if I'm wrong please - you'll have to use Wintopo or Inkscape if you want to save in a form that can be reread by the CR to enable you to modify it.
I know it seems long winded but at least you've learnt how to do a welded word.
If you want to learn I can talk you through Inkscape or send you screen shots I did for another user and she managed fine.

hi i have just looked at inkscape and i cannot get my head around it i couldnt even work out how to make a word an outline, like i do in openoffice.
if you could send me more info i will try and look when i am not so tired, but you sent me something earlier and i cannot open it, it just keeps saying mail returned or something an them a load of stuff i dont understand
thank you for those, i think i am going to admit defeat on this one, it seemed such a good idea at the time.
i have tried just writing a very simple word in inkscape and i overlap the letters do what its says but i can still see the lines were each letter crosses, in openoffice when i do this i adjoining lines disappear.
Don't give up now - you're nearly there!
Make sure you have done these steps:
1. write your word one letter at a time each letter must be separate
2. View>Display>outline
3. With your mouse pull each letter separately to where you want it
4. Select the word then Path>Object to path
5. Path>Union
at this point you should have a welded word!

hi, i know i shouldnt give up i cannot let a pc beat me, so left it alone and went back to it. I have done it. I made a vertical word ' good luck' its not brilliant but i think i am on the right path. I just need to work out how to upload it to show you.
I just used a very striaght lined font so perhaps i will have a go with something else to see if i can improve it.
Thank you so much for not giving up on me i know i have been a pain, but i was driving me mad.
