Hi,
I use just rough sketches in my A3 book - I can't draw! But having said that - I have also cut a range of shapes - circles, squares, rectangles, and put them on a 12 x 12 paper (I prefer that size), and just moved it around until I am happy. I find that this does help, as my greatest difficulty was always where something should go! I also bought a book about sketching but I don't think I am allowed to mention it on here. HTH
By the way - well done on rescuing your animals! As half cat and half human, I know which is the better side, Meow!, I am owned by 7 cats - all rescue!
I've done a patchwork background before ... not sure if its in my gallery though ... I used 2"x2" squares of patterned paper :)
I'm not sure if this is what you mean? Hope it helps.
If you look on the Scrapology challenge blog that is exactly what this month's chllenge is:)
Yay! I knew I'd posted one at some point! It's here - hope it's helpful :D
