Is it possible for a soldier to have three numbers.

I'm looking on the National Archives for my great grandfather and I've found two Thomas B Miller's in the East Lancashire Regiment and there are three numbers in total.

One is just for a Private

and the other has two one for a private and one in the labour corps. I assume as that one is on the same medal card it is possible but I didn't know whether the card is per medal rather than per person (e.g. if a person had two medals they were listed twice). Can anyone help.

I've come across this problem too, so I shall be interested in any replies. Thanks for asking.

I have come across my gt grandfather's number -86- several times for different regiments and names.

When my grandfather re-enlisted for WW2, he was so pleased when he was given his old number back. So can't see that one man would have different numbers.

OH has just said you only have one number (he's ex army and into military history and the like).
