altering a clipboard

hi i'm gonna attempt to alter a clipboard today and I think I should put a coat of varnish on it to protect it. now should I use pva or anitas 3d gloss accent, and if i use pva what parts should i water down.

I used pva on mine, diluted 50 - 50. Seems to be ok!!

I have also heard it suggested to add a drop or two of diamond glaze to the mix for a nice sheen..............
