That's good news I was just about to spend some money looking at images on the Stepping Stone site, I can wait but hope it will not be very long.

I wish Ancestry would hurry up and get 1851 sorted out before they start a new one! :P

Hi Jem
What do you find wrong with the 1851, I have found it to be OK.
Dee
I can't find who I'm looking for lol. I was on there for hours last night looking for a family that I don't think are even connected to me, I was just fed up and they looked interesting. I couldn't find the dad in 1861 or 1851.
It was interesting following the marriage and subsequent children though. They caught my eye because it looks as if all of their children survived, in all of my family searching a lot of the kids *disappear*. There is a possibility they are connected which is how I came across them, I've got to send off for my GGmothers BC to find out though.

I have found sometimes people are really hard to find in a census and appear to just disappear because they have been transcribed under the wrong name...for example i had a family called TARR and one census they were listed under FARR...that can make it hard work!
I look foward to the 1841 census being online too...might help me push back my tree another generation :)

I agree Amy, finding folk in census can be very hard.
How about this one, I was looking for a William NIGHTINGALE and family in the 1871 census. William and spouse had a child in about every county so I had no idea where to look I did eventually find them transcribed (by the enumerator not a mistake in the Ancestry index) as JONES!!! No not a ditto mistake from the family above and in every other census they have their correct name.
A lucky find, yes that's how my research has always gone but I have more luck for other people than myself.
For someone who is passionate about Family History as I am can you image not finding both sets of grandparent’s marriage! On my maternal side I knew enough to get going but for my father, it stops with just the names of my grandparents and as my grandmother did not know what her maiden name was it is for now a hopeless line. When I say grandmother did not know her name, she had 8 children and in no pattern she uses the name SWEENEY or JOHNSON as her given name on one child the baptism has one name and the register of his birth has the other.
One day something will appear and I will find them, at least I hope.

Hi Dee,
I can imagine it must be really frustrating not being able to find your grandparents marriage! Can you not try and find it by looking for a certificate in your grandfathers name, in the right location, with a match of someone with your grandmothers first name....i expect you have tried everything though...such ashame...hope you can find a way to trace that branch back too.
I kind of have the same problem, but with one of my great grandmothers as she was adopted. She was born in 1902 so there are no offical records of the adoption and her birth cert has her adaopted parent on it. I just dont know how to try and trace her back further.

Hi Amy
I have only ever found my paternal grandfather in the 1901 census and he states his place of birth as Blackburn but Blackburn and surrounding districts do not have a birth for him. I have also been to London to look at the index books there. The 1911 census will not help me as my grandfather died aged about 38 in 1908 leaving grandmother with six children and pregnant with twins, I think she had a very hard life.
I even did some work voluntary at Manchester Record office (Manchester was my best hope for a marriage) and I had access to all the registers (a kid in a sweet shop) but I still could not come up with anything.
At least my maternal line flourishes, even though I do not have the grandparents marriage – which for this family it would be alien for them not to be married, and I can get back to 1622 but I how I would love to find my paternal roots.
I forgot to mention I have not found one set of maternal Gtx1 grandparents marriage – just not fair :0( but lucky both had other marriages and I was able to continue. What is it with marriages and my family?

The 1841 Census has been available on Origins for a while, but you do have to pay for it. I've found it very helpful. They have other stuff as well :)

So, Ancestry's claim that you can be the first to see the 1841 online is a bit bogus ;)
have you any idea if the Irish origins has the parish records for births or are these still with the local church I thinking of 1857- 70

I haven't used the Irish bit, but if you go on the website you can do a free search :)

Not all counties are available on origin. I've just been on there and can't find my family because Northamptonshire hasn't been included

In Ireland it depends on the religion. The Catholic Church only began to keep records in 1864, not sure about other religions tho - but a lot of the Irish records including census returns were lost in a fire in the records building,so pre 1901 it's quite difficult to find anything
Some, but not many, Parish records are pre 1864, but that's due to the Parish Priests keeping their own records before they were officially required to do so - but because of this I was able to find quite a few on my own anscestors and to find out about siblings we didn't know existed.

Do you see the actual records themselves on Origin or is it only a transcript?
