There is now an option to display a countdown or countup in your posts. You can use this for special events like a Holiday, Christmas, Halloween, New Baby, Days since you have stopped smoking or started a diet etc.

To set one up go into USER CP

Click on "Edit Options"

Scroll down to "Thread Display Options" until you see the "Show Countdown" box.

Tick the box, then in the next box put in the event date in this format.

01 Feb 2007 18:36

2 Digits for the DAY, 3 Letters for the MONTH, 4 digits for the YEAR, 24 hour format time with a COLON : not a full stop. DO NOT USE QUOTATION MARKS.

Then enter some text for the TITLE and choose a colour for the text from the drop down menu.

Then choose a background picture from one of these.

If you have made any errors in the formatting of the date then it will tell you. Please check silly things like a COLON in the time and 3 Digit MONTHs

I set my countdown yesterday but sometimes when i reply to a post it takes the countdown out, it still leaves the purple box there. Can you help me.

Quick reply doesnt refresh the page it only tacks your new post on the bottom of your page. Anyone else looking at the page will see it and also you will see it if you refreshed.

Thanks for this - I really loved having a countdown when DD was coming home for the first time in a year! I hope these won't go with the new tidy up!

Does anyone, perchance, know how to remove the countdown when the "due date" arrives as I still have the purple box, because I only knew how to take the info out of it!! Thanks in advance!

Very excited and thanks smax for the help. Just put a countdown to my 60th. Although I suppose I should be trying to count away from it not to it!

Just curious-why does it sometimes count down in one seconds and sometimes in two?

SMAX

That would only happen if your computer is maxed out or slow at the time. Its your PC that does the counting. It will also show different times if your pc clock is wrong.

Is there anyway of getting a different countdown?? My son starts 'big school' in sept, and I'd love to countdown to that, but none of them are appropriate for school!! A blank one is too boring (sorry:lol:)

Hi Smax and everyobe else

Quick question ... why is it that sometimes there's not time at all on my countdown timer ?

Thanks

I think if you do a 'quick reply' the time doesn't show, but if you 'go advanced' or refresh the page it does

maybe!

SMAX
27-09-2008, 07:52 AM
Because if you use the quick reply the page doesn't refresh. So the countdown doesn't show in the last post.

When you refresh or revisit the page you will see it just like everyone else can.
