Hi everyone hope you have all had a good day. Ive been having great fun this afternoon playing with the new interactive whiteboard. It is great fun and the kids cant wait to get their grubby litle paws on it! Im sure next week will be very exciting as I start to use it with them. When I went to the training last night the first thing that poped into my head about how to use it was - this would be great for my scrapbooking - how bad is that?

I see I am posting to ruthlesscrappy. Do we just PM each other with our addresses?

Back later got to put supper on for DH he has been busy planting trees today so is a bit tired. Poor him!

We only have one for the whole school at the moment mid you there are only 2 classes. My projector had to sit on the table at the moment so the kids kept knocking it today. I will be hiding it so no-one can steal it especially the other teacher! Nite nite really I am going this time!

In my school we are really lucky as we have one in each teaching room. I work in the secondary sector and our buget is bigger than a Primary school's, but I think that all classrooms should have one, both primary and secondary.

You are probably there now. Sadly you won't get this advice in advance. I'd say plan a layout and take the stuff you need to complete it only. I am sure you know this, but at my first crop I took almost everything I owned. No planning just panic, Why because I was DUMB. I was overwhelmed by all the creativity and did nothing when I got there, just felt kinda awkward. Must admit haven't been for ages. Much prefer it on here.

Hope you enjoy your though. Let us know how you get on. :D

culpepper
19-02-2006, 12:43 PM
Really, really, really enjoyed myself at my first crop yesterday- the heating wasn't working and they only had decaf coffee left but I didn't even notice lol. They were such a friendly and helpful bunch of ladies and didn't mind all my stupid newbiw questions at all and helped me out with choosing papers and advice on layoutd and tricks / tips.

I thought i had taken a lot with me - I took enough for about five-six layouts depending on my mood - but they all arrived with bags and totes full of stuff - so i won't worry so much next time lol

anyway- next one is next month and thanks for the advice :)

I've had a really productive day today. Managed to get a lot done on the CJ. I've bound it all up with book rings and covered the front and back covers and strted the front decoration. I know what poem I'm using for my LO just waiting for my parents to visit with photos of snow drops. Then I can get the LO done.

Looking forward to the 20th when we can get this thing on its way and I can start seeing some of the LO you guys have done.

do we do our own cj layouts first? or last?
also- what type of paper should that pages be? i was going to use cardstock ?

RuthlessScrappy
19-02-2006, 08:59 PM
I've used plain white cardstock - 200gsm - A4 from ASDA. I've cut it in half to make A5 pages. Everyone will get a double LO. I'm going to do my LO first but according to the intro to CJs you can leave yours till last if you want. You may want to write on the pages in pencil which pages you want to use if you do this.

You are so lucky. I just wish that I could go part-time, but at the moment that would be stupid. I will have to consider it in the near future that's for sure. Or perhaps rethink my entire career. Mmm! I'm liking the sound of that. I've been teaching five years and apparently that was the shelf life of a teacher when I joined the profession. I am certainly feeling very different about it now. Probably got lots to do with the government. OMG. I shouldn't talk about my job, it just takes me and those around me to a very dark place. LOL Yes where was I, erm scrapbooking...already things seem brighter. :D

Don't miss the office polictics at all, although I do miss the girly chats and nights out. My DH is away alot (has gone to Sweden today) so that is my excuse.

I have been altering a lunch tin today for a friend of ours son . It has come out really well I'm really pleased.

Sorry to hear about your loss Kitten, hope each day is becoming easier for you to cope with. Family friends and time is a great healer.

So sorry for your loss, I have some understanding as we lost our 1st baby last year at 22 weeks pregnant. He was tiny but perfectly formed when he was born. I had 12 weeks off following the loss but knew it was right to go back when I did. I was very lucky as our Occupational health department and boss were great and I went back part time initially. It was difficult to do a full day let alone a full week after being off for so long. I slowly built up my hours. I would suggest that you talk with your OC Health department if there is one to agree a return to work strategy - I'm sure even in teaching they can not expect a complete return to work from day one.

The other thing I found very useful (apart from the counselling - pure unadultarated time for me to talk about me and how I was feeling without upsetting people close to me!) was to meet up with my work collegues for lunch one day a couple of weeks before I was due back. I could then have my cry and get all the questions of "how are you" out of the way before I was back in the office. That first day back then did not seem as daunting.

Hope things go okay for you

Kitten,

In terms of rethinking your career loads of companies employ people in their training departments especially trained teachers. You have what they call "transferable skills" :D Industry is often more flexible in their working times/part time working and you can use your skills to train adults who actually want to learn :D Sometimes it takes a shock like this to reassess what you want from life

Hi everyone.

Sorry to hear about your loss Kitten and the fact that you are not enjoying teaching anymore. i am also a teacher. I have been teaching for nearly 7 years but I still really enjoy it. Do you teach older or younger kids? Sometimes a change of stage is all you need but if you really feel it isnt for you anymore Ruthless is right your sskills are transferable to other areas so Im sure you will find something you enjoy.

Michelle and Sarah I have a kitkat tin and another biscuit tin that I have kept with the intention of altering them but I havent got a clue where to start. I would love to make something from them for mothers day. Any help welcomed.

Thanks for all your supportive comments. I really appreciate what's been said especially re 'transferable skills'. I work with kids from 11-18. It's not them that I dislike, its the whole management thingl. I am a middle manager and I find that the pressure from above just builds and builds without ever letting up. I am not the kind of manager who kicks the people who are supposedly 'beneath' me. I have a real team ethic about managing, best suited to a task generally is asked to do it and I know that it is not always me. Some HODs are so egotistical it is untrue. Not me. Don't like it. I wish I'd become an AST instead of HOD.

HOD Head of Dept.
AST Advanced Skills Teacher

Teacher speak is full of abbreviations. Perhaps the death of my brother has made me reassess myself. There are things that I need to push myself to do. I think I've gotten comfortable. Perhaps I should try a new school before giving it up as bad job altogether.

With regards to the CJ page. I haven't thought about it for a day or two. I have kind of given myself a difficult theme. No. I am not going to change it. I was saying something about challenging myself earlier, so I will stick with it and hopefully I'll think of something great.

evening girls.....well i have to say my thoughts are with those of you who lost someone close, my grandad died a month ago today from a brain tumor and its still a sore subject, so i understand the grief, if not to your extent.

ahh i have never altered tins i have no idea how to, and its never occured to me to do it, which is odd as i collect tins and boxes, my house is full of them.
maybe i should start altering some, the problem is i love every single tin and box i own.......from tiny pill tins to the hatbox my fiance bought me back from a work trip.
Ahhh what to do...............i think i'll keep a look out and buy some cheap ones to alter.
So does anyone have any suggestions on aht to do to them...paints etc??

on a good note i have now finished my cj! cant wait to post it to someone.

:D Hi everyone,
Been thinking about my feelings CJ. I have had an idea. Can't wait to get scrapping. I have ordered some supplies and that has lifted my mood. Like I said before thanks for all the support. Hopefully I'll get my stash in the next day or two and that will give me something to do. :D

[Sorry I have missed everything these past few days...also sorry to hear of everyone's sad news, I too have had some recently and in the not too distant past so I feel I also share the pain (if it's ok though I am still unable to talk about it). Still have therapy and counselling sessions and maybe one day the pain with cease.]

I'm really looking forward to receiving everyone's cj's, this is such an exciting time :D I have been so busy and feel awful for neglecting my pals in here since I started up my own team. Apologies ladies, didn't think we were 'allowed' to talk about anything non-cj related but now I know different :D

Have fun and chat again soon :D

Morning all. Wish I could say that it is a bright and beautiful day here in Manchester, but it is not. The sky is grey, it is windy and freezing cold. The weather is a bit mad methinks. I got up with the intention of being a good housewife this morning so that I can scrap and spend a little time on here later, how wrong was I. I am so addicted to this site it is untrue. Anyone else like that? When I go back to work I am going to have withdrawl symptoms I am certain. LOL

I got some in a pif. It was very generous with a huge bag and a massive selection of colours and sizes. I was so excited. I love them, but I think that they are very expensive. I would not want a whole bottle of any of the colours as I don't think I would use them all. That's probably why people are prepared to pif. I really like the idea of sharing on here as scrapbooking can suck all of my spare cash if I get carried away. LOL I know that I am not on my own.

You just watch the thread and if you see anything you fancy you just jump in quick and shout and then leave a list of the bits and pieces you have to offer.
I think thats how it works anyway, ive only done it a couple of times

HTH

Sarah :)

kittenglitter
23-02-2006, 03:37 PM
I did see you there Sara. You missed out on the alphabets but you got something else.

Pifs work like this; someone decides to start the pif and they have to close it, others can jump in at anytime to say that they want a particular item and having done that they have to pif (pass it forward) something else; usually a list of things that they have a surplus amount of or no longer require.

To be fair there is a really clear explanation in the the thread, under rules. Have a look there if you are still no clearer.

Hi Kitten and all

Hope you are all well - Kitten i have some idea how you feel about going back to work - I have just gone back after being off ill for nearly 4 months. It was a real upheaval but it is beginning to feel better. Not AS MUCH TIME TO SPEND CHATTING ON HERE THOUGH!!!

I wish our posting date would hurry up and get here, i am itching to get started - although don't want to send my lovely CJ out into the great blue yonder. I am sure everyone will treat it with TLC!! lol

Love the thread you started today. I have been laughing to myself at all the madness people ingest and are willing to share including my bit about scrapbooking which came from an English mag a while ago. The one about leaving shops in different directions has made me laugh the most. I'll be following this thread, just to see what other gems there are to keep me smiling.

Hi everyone. That sounds like an interesting thread which one is it? I have been so busy the last few days I havent had time to check out all the threads. I took the kids to the museu in Aberdeen today to see the Egyptian exhibts. They were so excited. They had a really good day and learned lots but the best bit was seeing the mummies - well so they said anyway. I think it was the putting them home after a long day that I found the best part!
Off out again tonight might check in later if not too late back.

I haven't been around for a while. Sorry. Went back to work yesterday, but that was a teacher training day so there were no kids. I was really nervous, but found that I was left to my own devices to just get on with what needed doing; tidying my very messy room (from supply staff). Once that was done I felt a bit better about being there. Ownership of your own work space is very important and once it was back to my normal standard I was happy.

The kids came in today and they were so warm towards me. I forgot how much they all mean to me. I had a great day, but the schedule of a teacher is quite intense and now I am knackered so I think I'll head out. Just thought I'd pop in and say hi.

Hope everyone is okay. Will be around for a chat later.

Love your altered bottle tops avatar Kitten. did you make them? If so how?
Sorry Karen. It's taken a bit of time to get back to you. I'm back at work now. I went back and walked into two lots of year nine reports. Humph. I've got some amendments to make to them, but anyway you wanted to know about the bottle tops.

I used new ones from Wilkos. I crushed them in my sizzix, then used the sizzix circle dies (smallest) to cut perfect sized circles from scraps of patterned paper. I used primas and mini brads and rhinestones to embellish the centres.

The blue ones I made the same way only I experimented with the sizzix frames (smallest) and used contrasting colours. I inked around the edges with Tim Holtz walnut ink. I used the dymo with paper strips cut to fit which were also inked with the ink and on others I just used blue dymo tape. I punched holes for threaded beads using my hammer and my mm piercing tool. (I have snapped the end off so it is quite blunt; did this before the bottle tops though LOL.)

That's about it really. I just played. I had fun and I want to make more, but I can't see me doing that this week, not unitl the weekend at least.

Hi all.

Thanks Kitten I think I know what to do now - get a sizzix! Bad luck with the reports. I just finished mine over the snow days just parents nights to go now!

Well all the kids were back today and fullof great snow stories. It took them a good 15 mins to take off all thier snow gear and put it back on at each break which really cut down my teaching time! They have made some great snowmen in the layground though and a fab ice hut. did get some pics but the kids are in them so cant post them on here! Hope everyone else had a good day?

Don't know about the 'big shot'. Sorry. But the sizzix requires you to use the converter. I think I'd post a thread to ask other owners of the Big Shot.

True very true! Our postie is not good just now. She doesnt like the snow so would rather take the post back to the office than walk 3 metres through 4 inch of snow! Remember to wear something warm, take a hot drink, some snacks, the all important shovel, a sleeping bag, torch, mobile phone - charged! Cant remember the rest of the AA list.

KarenJD

hi, I go to the crop once a month- this is my second time as I only started scrapping two months ago :) really really enjoying it! and would have left work with stress by now if i hadn't started! Apparently it is the one year anniversary of the crop in april, so we are going to do a CJ and also an easter swap and have a nice cake :) really friendly ladies and very relaxed atmosphere too :)
we have a little little bit of snow here and it is really cold but nothing spectacular :( my parents are snowed in in Glasgow tho (just above Glasgow in the hills that is )
