Hi Kate,
I'm a Scout Leader her in the UK and we (my DH & I) go out to Kenya every year to work with Scouting projects out there that help to get the Street Kids looked after, fed and hopefully returned to homes where suitable or to guardians. I've been over there every year since '98 and my DH since '99. We also raise money here by importing goods from Kenya (some made by the older kids) sell it and return ALL the profits to the Kenya projects. (not a penny touches the government!!!) No money exchanges hands. They do a business plan and we pay for the goods they need to complete it i.e. 4 teenagers are about to start courses in things like mechanics, carpentry etc. So we pay the college for the course. We have a committee here who vets the requests and the money is kept safe here until sent.
Just before Christmas it was manic with all the craft fayres we did. We were knackered by the time Christmas came but we raised about £3000 in a month.
Every penny counts i.e we can feed a child for the whole day (3 meals) for about 50p...mind blowing isn't it!
Anyway must stop before I bore you all
kate2962
09-02-2006, 12:36 AM
WOW Lesley that is fantastic - i admire you, i do varying sorts of voluntary work for local things but nothing on that scale
Wow Lesley - I know this sounds daft but it must be fun! I do Brownies but that's just the Tuesday night stuff - not half as much as you do. It must be very rewarding for yourselves to see the difference that you make!
Nicci24lego
09-02-2006, 12:57 PM
gosh Lesley, thats fab - £3000 in one month, great going.... hard work but very rewarding aswell I imagine...

Ok so I've been pondering a theme and was wondering about "When I'm feeling blue ....." the oldies amongst us might remember the song "when I'm feeling blue all I have to do ..." So I'd be looking for things that make you smile or cheer you up etc. etc. What do you think?
annadomini
10-02-2006, 08:37 PM
Very Groovy (kind of) theme! (:D) Love it! - seriously :)

Oh shucks, I'm feeling all warm and glowing ^_^
Snap, I went downhill Tuesday afternoon and had to get someone to cover my evening class. Have been off since Wed, Laura managed to survive until Thurs but then she got it too, we've both been tucked on sofa watching tapes of previous year's dance shows
I've been thinking of a theme, probably going with "Favourite methods of chilling out and relaxing?"
Great to be in a CJ again, and a digital one is going to be fab.

10-02-2006, 10:07 PM
I like the theme 'when I'm feeling blue' but not sure i like being described as an oldie as I know the song!!
I haven't decided on a theme as yet - I will post the themes on my first post during next week as i will be away on my own for a few days with my laptop!! (Bliss) and also do a table with forat size email addys etc nd email that to you all, whe i have all the nfo - no rush as the first posting isn't for a month or so yet

10-02-2006, 10:26 PM
Awhhh don't feel bad, based on two other threads that I'm part of here I think I'm amongst the oldest of the oldies!!! Someone suggested a theme of the year you were born and how great because they were born in 1985 and could use "groovy" papers .... my immediate thought was "Jezzzzz, I'd been working 7 years at that point!"
Anyway age is but a number, doesn't have any real meaning on how old we are!
 Mandy x
kate2962
10-02-2006, 10:30 PM
Mandy I hd to go and look at your profile to see just how old you are as you make your self sound really old but you are only a year older than me and that aint old!!!! as you said it is just a number!!!
Love the when I'm feeling blue song ..... Groovy kind of love is mine & DH's 'song' as our first date was Buster, October 1988, Dundee:P

lol well compared to a lot of ladies around here I am more mature let's say. Do I feel old heck no I don't! I still feel like I did when I was 20 something. Of course the face in the mirror looks different but you know I actually like the age I am right now!
kate2962
10-02-2006, 10:41 PM
I am still 18 in my mind!!! the creaking jonts say otherwise!! LOL Mandy I have realise that we are in the same house and so is Karen and Nicci so each entry will be more points for the Ribbons!!
MandyNi0
10-02-2006, 10:45 PM
Well Ms kate I just siddled over and checked our your profile too lol!

kate2962
10-02-2006, 11:21 PM
Karen I am gutted about Scrapbook Magic - it was THE best magazine on sale for us scrapbookers - i even have several ready to take away with me to use for ideas while i am away. I want to make the CD tin you did and made the front cover with as one of my projects using a different theme
MandyNi0
10-02-2006, 11:24 PM
Ok now don't rush ...... form an orderly queue ....... irish coffees coming up for any poorly digi ladies ..... how do you take them? Extra sugar, extra whisky?
Sounds nice Mandy! Could I have tia maria in it though instead of whisky as I don't like the stuff! I think I just about count as one of the poorly ones - lets pretend I'm a man and then I definatly count - my nose is bunged up as I'm sure it's the start of a cold!
kate2962
10-02-2006, 11:29 PM
i am not ill and i don't want to be as i have so much planned for the next 11 days!! just a milky coffee for me please
annadomini
10-02-2006, 11:41 PM
Gosh! I go away for an hour and everyone starts chatting! :)
Karen - I do hope you're better soon and get to enjoy half term.
Mandy - I've just checked your profile too and you're only 2 years older than I am and I'm not old - just middle aged!
Must start thinking of a theme.
kate2962
10-02-2006, 11:42 PM
it is nice that we are chatting - we didn't much on the old thread did we?
:D Keep going girls, I'm getting the idea I'm one of the 'younger' ones in the CJ!! (Not by many years but suffice to say I've still got 3 years to I hit the big 40!:D:D)
kate2962
10-02-2006, 11:46 PM
a spring Chicken then Elin?
MandyNi0
10-02-2006, 11:48 PM
Does that make me more of turkey!!
kate2962
10-02-2006, 11:50 PM
  I am having a real laugh now!!!! Now more of an elegant swan!!!! be more positive Mandy!!!
Anna your avvie has just given me inspiration for my CJ theme (or until I change my mind again!) - What animal would you love to have as a pet if practicalities didn't get in the way (including what is 'right/wrong' to keep) eg would you love a snake, panda, whale, kangaroo. Imagine you had moved to a place where they were possible eg what pet would you have if you lived in Kenya, or in Austrailian outback, or the Amazon, or off the coast off Alaska..... 'Dream about pets'
And after all that, don't laugh when you see what mine would be even if I could go to the ends of the earth to keep it!
No, like the turkey better. Always imagine the swan kicking away like mad under teh water - 'all show and no knickers!'
kate2962
10-02-2006, 11:55 PM
but a turkey has lots of chins!!!
Much more useful than a swan though!
kate2962
10-02-2006, 11:59 PM
only for putting meat on a plate!!!!! - swans make for nice pics!! I like your theme, not sure i know what i would choose tho
Always the practical for me, not the aesthetic! You'll probably get an idea for the CJ when you see others - that's how most of them spark off. (Except some of the ones I've to do in the scottish CJ's I'm in. Themes up to now have been scottish faerie tales, scottish ancient places, Robert Burns (lived round the corner from me, hate is pretentious work), Mabel Lucie Atwell, another faerie tales for which I am last!, and I have scottish tunes on my desk! Wouldn't mind but I'm not Scottish - just live here!!!)
:P See Mandy's not answering about being a swan or turkey!
kate2962
11-02-2006, 12:06 AM
so you are in the same Cj as Fiona3103???
yep! Fiona's CJ was easy though cos I'm a Brown Owl too and we'd been talking about Pack Holidays so did an entry on Pack Hol advice!!
kate2962
11-02-2006, 12:08 AM
no she isn't is she!!!!
kate2962
11-02-2006, 12:11 AM
she was asking on our team thread a while back for pics for LM Atwell and I had a book of some pics and Izzy had some too
:D I may be asking too when it comes to me. Mrs Mac has chosen the theme - I'm nearly the last for that so it'll be difficult. Hers was the Robert Burns one too in the other scottish Scrappers CJ. Luckily I was the first to get that one. - You should see the CJ cover - it's covered in a kilt!!! I'm very vocal when it comes to moaning abotu a CJ topic - still do it though but love a good moan!
kate2962
11-02-2006, 12:18 AM
That ok if you want the pics there isn't many but i ma sure Fiona won't use them all - i can email them to you as i am sure i will still hve them in a file somewhere - going for a look!!
Thanks Kate! See, join up for one CJ and get info for another!
Must go to bed as I've a 1 year old coming to play at 7.30am tomorrow morning!!
kate2962
11-02-2006, 12:22 AM
Lucky you!!!!! take care and let me know if you want those pics when it gets to you - i think Fiona has it at the moment!! night.
no she isn't is she!!!!
 Not sure but would bet £1000 that she is:lol:
kate2962
11-02-2006, 12:26 AM
that was a comment to something you said about Mandy not saying anything about being a swan or turkey!! - thought you were going to bed!!!

11-02-2006, 09:15 AM
This is going to be a great chat thread
Not in so much pain today - thankfully - but will be taking it easy and can't stare at the screen too long.
I love the animal theme - I hope that one lasts as I have a fab idea! and no........ not a cat LOL
Um all this talk of turkeys and chickens has worried me - I think I am the oldest member here. Shall we just refer to me as the old boot! Mind you - if I were a turkey imagine how much flesh you'd get with me - I'd feed thousands!
 At least as a turkey you'd get till chrismas - think how long a spring chicken gets!!
:D Karen I could be cruel and stipulate a non-fantastic holiday photo to be used - not like your stunning lions, giraffes, whales .... Thought that theme would be right up your street!
 Kate though you meant Fiona being a Brown Owl:lol:
craftyslh
11-02-2006, 10:22 AM
DH is doing the leper bit on me and DD too, don't hug me, I don't want it:(
Can everyone stop mentioning the big 40:(, I'm finally hitting it next week:blink:, and I'm not looking forward to it. At least I'm on half-term though:D
Elin - I'd better get my thinking cap on, pet I'd love to own................... (unless you change your mind).
Off to get a coffee and something to munch for brekkie.
MandyNi0
11-02-2006, 12:43 PM
:P See Mandy's not answering about being a swan or turkey!
'Cause my flippin link went down and I couldn't. Noo definitenly not a turkey, think my chins aren't to numerous just yet. As for swan .... hmmm maybe because even when I look calm and confident underneath I might be having real wobbly moments lol.
MandyNi0
11-02-2006, 12:48 PM
Don't worry about 40 Sylvianne, what they safe about life starting when you are 40 is absolutely true. I love being this age, don't have a problem with it. I have done so much more in the last 5 years than I did in the previous 30!
Lesley D
11-02-2006, 02:25 PM
Wow you guys.....talk about rabbit, rabbit! :D
I've missed soooooo much as I haven't been on line for a few days. Where do I start?
Thanks for all your interest in what I do (page 1) Yes I am a busy lady but would probably drop dead if I wasn't. And anyway, If I get bored I get dangerous and spend even more money than I do now!!! LOL
As for the age. Well Scrapdolly....I was 50 in January so does that make me the oldest. I'm very young at heart though or should I say juvenile!!! ROFL. My family clubbed together and bought me a balloon ride!! Whoopy! I've always wanted one....dropped a few hints and then forgot about it. I've booked it for 31st May for the evening 'cos I don't do mornings very well and 0600hrs is not as enticing as 1800hrs!!!! B)
As for animals.....does my age make me a dinosaur!! I'd prefer to be a cat! LOL :P
Have I caught up??? I hope so.
Lovely group we've got...lots of character....fantastic!
Until, someone does something really clever, I hope my DD2 sig is acceptable!?
djaye
11-02-2006, 03:27 PM
Looks like i have missed so much too, I was seeing off my DH on a 2 week trip abroad yesterday. I hope everyone has got over their germs...shame i missed the hot toddies though ;)
Hello to all of you anyway, some I sort of recognise but have never really spoken to.
I have never done one of these CJ's before so if I have to ask dumb questions now and again I hope you will all bear with me, and I am feeling a bit left out because i haven't got any of those lovely spangly things or anything on my posts.
I am trying to think up a theme but am a bit constipated in that direction at the moment.
I wouldn't worry - by the end of the CJ you'll be doing your own blinkies! Things are all going to change on the blinkie front at the beginning of March anyway and tons of them will be dissapearing.
And as for dumb questions - no question is ever dumb! It's like the answers are only easy if you know them!!

Love your digital divas 2 sparkly - beautiful
No ideas on the theme front yet - but I am thinking - honest

11-02-2006, 04:38 PM
Hi!
I'm glad you're feeling better Karen.
Hope you recover soon Sylvianne and that you're allowed a hug. Do you have any plans for your birthday?
Hi djaye (sorry - I haven't picked up on your real name :) )
Love your sparkly blinkie Lesley. I'm still sporting the last one.
I've been humming Groovy Kind Of Love to myself all day and I'm starting to get on my own nerves! Any suggestions for a replacement song to go round in circles in my head will be most gratefully received! :D
Still haven't thought of a theme .. I seem to have mislaid my thinking cap. :)
kate2962
11-02-2006, 05:34 PM
Hi to everyone
Anna - 'is this the way to Amarillo' is one of those tunes that gets into your head and then gets annoying - try that!!!
Glad to hear those with the flu are felling a tad better and this is not a competition to be the oldest - honest!!! although it is good to hear how old everyone is helps to sort of imagine the person more IYKWIM!!!
annadomini
11-02-2006, 06:21 PM
Oh Yes! Thanks for the suggestion Kate - I'm onto it! :) And I can do the little jig that goes with it too - liven myself up a bit.
I'd love to pretend to be much younger but it's difficult to pass yourself off as 21 when you have a 15 yr old son! ;)
kate2962
11-02-2006, 06:25 PM
I know what you mean i used to say i was 21 for years until the boys worked out i couldn't possibly be!! My oldest is 18 next month so saying even 31 is a bit far fetched!!! LOL
annadomini
11-02-2006, 06:33 PM
I had to stop jigging. I was in danger of putting my back out!
Talking of age and kids (and music), I think you know you're getting old when you think that the stuff your kids listen to is a horrendous cacophony! The Arctic Monkeys.
Urgh!
I'm very aware that I'm sounding just like my mother!
kate2962
11-02-2006, 06:38 PM
I do that too - and then try and stop myself!!!
some of the stuff my boys listen too is OK but most justs sounds like trash!! THAT is a sign of gettng old!!
DS1 made me laugh not so long ago. I have a large CD collection and he was slagging it off saying it was all old and rubbish but 30mins later he was asking to borrow some of the CDs!!! He loves Elton, Queen, Bon Jovi, and he even has a Rolf Harris CD!!! (I don't!!!) if any of my CDs go missing I know who has got them!
annadomini
11-02-2006, 06:51 PM
My DS asked to borrow one of DH's CDs the other day and when DH said: 'I thought you didn't like my taste in music', he said: 'I don't! How many of your CDs have I NOT asked to borrow!"
Perhaps it sound likes trash because it IS trash! ;) I'm sure music was a lot more tuneful when we were their age! ;) (discounting a few bands .. like the Jesus and Mary Chain for example)
Another thing .. I went shopping for new clothes this morning and couldn't find anything I liked. I wore striped tops, slouchy jumpers, tight jeans and flat red shoes in the 80's. I don't fancy wearing the same stuff all over again.
Sad, isn't it?
kate2962
11-02-2006, 06:54 PM
It is!!! I tend to live in jeans (not denim ones tho!!) as they are hard wearing and I need that for work as i work in a science prep room and we get all sorts spilt, the white coats do catch most of it tho!!
I can't remember what i wore in the 80s!! other than my wedding dress that is!!! and only that the once!! LOL
annadomini
11-02-2006, 07:06 PM
I live in jeans too but am bored of having worn the same 3 jumpers all winter. I used to spend loads of money on clothes but now it all goes on scrapping stash. Shocking!
The other thing I dislike about being of a certain age is being called Madam! (usually by attractive young men in WH Smith). Hate it!
What were you up to in the 80s then - apart from getting married?
kate2962
11-02-2006, 07:15 PM
I had my oldest at the end of the 80s
We did our first house for a year before getting married, we didn't live in it so could gut it. took my A levels, Went to college, started work, and generally had a good time.
kate2962
11-02-2006, 07:16 PM
how about you Anna?
kate2962
11-02-2006, 07:17 PM
Did you used to want to borrow some of your mums clothes to look grown up but wouldn't do it now!!!? LOL
annadomini
11-02-2006, 07:25 PM
Sorry Kate! My laptop seems to be on a go slow and is playing silly billys.
I never borrowed my mum's clothes - no. I was a goth and only ever wore black. Mum didn't do black.
I'm sure I'd want to borrow her clothes now. I'm far more ladylike. ;)
I had a great time in the 80s. I did my A Levels, had a gap year in South Africa, went to university in Leeds, spent a year in China, generally lived it up and then met DH in 1989 . Those were the days. :)
My DS thinks I'm 22! When he was in primary 1 last year his teacher said she was 21 whhen they talked about ages. (She's way older than me but they all believed it!) So when Andrew asked me I just said the same age as Mrs Hunter. Coming round to my birthday he said to everyone I was going to be 22 and everyone just smiled and agreed!
In the 80's I started secondry school, did my A levels and started Dundee uni. At the end met DH!

How did you meet your DH Elin? Did he sweep you off your feet in a romantic fashion?
kate2962
11-02-2006, 07:36 PM
I grew up knowing my DH and fancied him like mad when i was 11 for about 6 weeks finally we clicked and got together when i was 15
 No chance. He was stood outside his pals flat very drunk on his 21st birthday. We lived next door. I wasn't impressed but he must have been cos he asked me out to the pictures the next week. I thought he would do till someone else came along. 17 years later still no-one else has come along:lol:
So sweet Kate - they say very young romances arn't supposed to last but so many do!
What about you Anna?
annadomini
11-02-2006, 07:39 PM
Oh - that's lovely Kate! Very romantic!
kate2962

its strange isn't it we have all 3 done a CJ together yet only just finding out things about each other!! - i'm enjoying the chat on here!!
annadomini
11-02-2006, 07:43 PM
 Elin!
I hate to admit that I met my DH at a nightclub when I was very drunk. I wanted to dance to a Simple Minds song and quite literally dragged the nearest person (him) on to the dance floor. 'Don't You Forget About Me' has a lot to answer for! ;)
kate2962
11-02-2006, 07:44 PM
he couldn't forget about you after that!!!
must have been something there though for you to stick together
 Anna! What are you like with tunes!!
It is nice that we seem to natter much more in this. Maybe cos we've not got the pressure of the CJ yet! Hope we're not putting the other off.
OK girls, for everyone - how did you meet your man??
annadomini
11-02-2006, 07:46 PM
I think I might have 'Waxing Lyrical' as my CJ theme. I had lots of gorgeous entries based on lyrics last time round and there's plenty of scope in the theme. What d'you reckon?
No Arctic Monkeys though please girls!
kate2962
11-02-2006, 07:48 PM
I am doing something similar in a paper CJ as my theme so I am all for it!!!
I hope we continue with the chat once we start the CJ going
I am off for my dinner now - hopefully catch you later

Bye Kate. Enjoy your meal :)
It could be a good one Anna!
I'll not use the song I'm just about to do a CJ entry on - 'you take the high road & I'll take the low road and I'll be in scotland before you....'

11-02-2006, 07:53 PM
A lovely theme Karen and I'm glad you're feeling better.
I wish I cold do 3 LOs in one go. I'm so slow that I can only manage one a day. :)
annadomini
11-02-2006, 07:54 PM
Why not Elin? Is hasn't been covered by the Arctic Monkeys, has it?
Quite like the sound of that Karen. You're right -there's a lot of scope in it.

The three LO's I have done have all been very simple - nothing complicated. I am trying out new styles. I love the Cathy Z style but find it very hard to do - mine always look empty so I pile a load of extra stuff on and it loses the whole thing.
I went away last weekend with 3 of my scrapping pals. I managed 14 LOs because they were all simple. Sometimes I think you need some simple LOs just to balance out the intricate ones - and to get though the backlog of photos!

I love your theme Karen, sounds fab.
I'm still cooking dinner, the roast pork is in with potatoes, onions and squash, just need to do some other veggies. Red wine is slipping down though.
Been designing costumes this afternoon, we've finally decided on DDs costumes for the summer dance show, I'm off to get fabric samples during the week and can then start putting a mockup together.

11-02-2006, 08:53 PM
Good luck with your DD's costumes and the dance show Sylvianne. I've just had a peek at your gallery. She's really beautiful (and has such a lovely name ;) :D)
I'm ashamed to say that I don't know Cathy Z. I must investigate. :)

I'm back again, pleased to see that the chat carried on!! I love your 18th LO Karen, I haven't done any LOs today but have packed my bags to do lots next week while away on my own.
I am going to a crop in Luton tomorrow as they have Kate from Scrapcanvas going and showing how to do a canvas, not sure it is 'me' but am willing to give it a go and will enjoy meeting up with 2 of my team members (met them last year at Bonanza)

hi everyone, wow, you lot can really chat!!! Its just taken me about 15mins to read the backlog and I'm supposed to be getting ready for the canvas crop tommorow (the one that Kates mentioned already) LOL!
Lovely to see everyones so friendly though, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all... but first I suppose I'd better think of a theme... I've never done a CJ before, paper or digi, so I hope you'll all be gentle with me, LOL! but I thought this was a good one to start off with as Kate is my team leader aswell as the CJ host, she can help me if I get stuck - (sorry, Kate, I hadn't told you that LOL!)

Hi everyone, boy you've been busy nattering haven't you. I went off today to help a fellow uks'er around some digi stuff, then went and got my mom and off to the movies to see Memoirs of a Geisha - absolutely brilliant!
Love the Waxing Lyrical and Natural themes, lots of things I can draw on for those.
As for what I was doing in the 80's ... well I got married in 1983, I met my ex-husband when I was 14, we were married 17 years. Divorced in 2000. But if you want to know how I met my wonderful eddible Eddie, then the detail is here ------> http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=60537&cat=500&ppuser=11944

Oh Mandy I loved the book. Was the film fab? I have heard the photography is brilliant
I got married in the 80's too - 1986 to be precise. Nigel and I had both been engaged to others - Nigel to my best mate hence how we met when I was just 15
Both engagements broke up - mine on route to the altar. Nij was my mate there to pick up the pieces. Six months later - well the rest is history
That's so sweet! So why did Tom choose you to instant message? What did Tom think of you and Eddie getting together? Has Eddie moved to NI then??
Karen that was a close shave then!!
MandyNi0
11-02-2006, 11:40 PM
That's so sweet! So why did Tom choose you to instant message? What did Tom think of you and Eddie getting together? Has Eddie moved to NI then??
LOL soooo many questions. I think Tom choose to IM me because he had a relationship with a woman in NI before and had fond memories of Irish women and NI also. When we got together, before Eddie went for the kill as such  , he said to Tom "I hope you won't mind too much but this is something I just have to do!" I called Tom a few days after they went home and said I really liked him but on meeting Eddie felt like I'd been hit by a steam roller, I was completely breathless (almost quite literally). He was very understanding! I guess a guy knows when he's beaten.
Eddie lives in Cambridgeshire, and not likely to move as he works for George W Bush and country. We see each other at least a couple of times a month and probably sometime in the future I'll move to be with him permanently although I do have to say it's working great. Our time together is special, we have lovely holidays away together and then I get my own space and time when I scrap, go to the movies, see girlfriends etc. etc. So sometimes I think why try and change something that's working really well .... time will tell I guess.
Karen, Memoirs of a Giesha was stunning, a few times during it I was almost holding my breath, cried at the end of course, and the photography was absolutely amazing ..... definitely have Kyoto on my "places I would love to see" list.

Some wonderful tales about loved ones.
80s for me were O'levels, A'levels, working whilst part-time degree then meeting DH.
I used to square dance (full circle skirts with fluffy net petticoats) and as I had my own car I used to go take a friend and her Mum, got back one evening for a cup of tea and the door flew open (still in outfit I hasten to add), in walked DH drunk (he'd just returned for a few days from tour in NI) literally fell onto the sofa with his head in my lap (I'd never met him before), he introduced himself then proceeded to tell me "I wasn't a very comfortable pillow" rolled on the floor and was sent to bed by his mum. I went for a drink at the weekend and an evening at a nightclub the following week and he asked me to write (this was August). We started as friends writing and by October the letters had turned to love. He came back for 4 days in October and the bells were ringing. We got engaged April 89 and married April 90. Will have been married 16 years this year and he's still adorable. I did love him in uniform he was a Snowdrop.
Oops, I've waffled.

Hi
I have been to Niccis crop in Luton and Kate from Scrapcanvas was there demonstrating how to do a canvas. We had a canvas 8 x 20 ins and I used some pics of my twins in the woods in Sherringham taken last October so used greens and browns. I tried alcohol inks, crakle glaze, some pastey stuff mixed with paint (looked a bit like artex when dry!!!) I used one of those heat pots to seal my microscope slides (well I had to have a go at them as I wash plenty in a week!!!!) Oh and I tried out the tim holtz embossing powders. It was a really busy day but I am pleased with the end result. I will post a pic on here for you to see but not tonight as I am on my laptop and my card reader is packed to go away with me tomorrow, so i will post a pic hopefully tomorrow.
Sounds a fab day you had & can't wait to see the results! So why are you going away with just you & your laptop tomorrow? Work?

12-02-2006, 10:11 PM
No pleasure!!! My mum owns a flat on the coast and I love it there and go almost all school hols unless we go somewhere else (hardly ever stay home!!!) The twins used to come with me and then DH joined us for the last weekend but the twins want to stay at home and see their friends so they come with DH on Thurs as a compromise. I have some friends just up the road and family in Norwich so not too far from people if i need anyone. I love the 3 or 4 days I get on my own to chill and craft and visit the craft shops in the area too
That is my idea of Heaven!! Now I'm soooo envious!

it is great - i can watch what i want on TV, go to bed when i want and get up when I want, cook and eat if i feel like it its a really selfish time but really relaxing. A friend was supposed to be coming with me but now cant - last year when she come with me we tried out lots of restaurants DH wont go in (he is a fussy eater) and by the time she went home I felt stuffed!!

Morning all - hope everyone had a great weekend - back tot he Monday grind .... but not for me .... sorry - I am just excited that it is half term
I was struck by inspiration last night for my CJ and have decided on a title which can be interpreted in any way you choose.
We went for dinner at Frankie and Benny's. I love the old music they play there and one of the songs they played gave me my title - It was the glorious Fats Domino - What a Wonderful World.
So - there's the theme and title. I hope you all think it is OK. Plenty of scope for interpretation and I can still use my fave nature pics for it.

Karen - A great theme, a good excuse to get my camera out, especially with us being on the cusp of spring.
I've been hunting the web and looking at other Digi CJs, getting ideas and inspiration. Theme is still tentative too.
Do you think the snow in New York will get to us, it normally seems to blow in this direction, but I can't remember how long after we get it? I've got everything crossed though, sledge is ready:lol:

Karen, Your dolls house is lovely. I have a small one too. Great hobby isn't it.
Well everytime I disappear for a day you lot get gassing. So I am always playing catchup....a bit like scrapping really!
 Met my DH in 1973 and he too was drunk the first night I saw him. The following night when I met him and he was sobre, he was much more attractive!! (I was 17) I was due to go to New Zealand 7 months after I met him..perminently. Fortunately I hadn't bought my ticket. I went to Germany for a 3 week holiday and he kept writing to me saying how much he missed me. I missed him too. So when I got back, within a week he was asking me if I was still going to NZ. Obviously I said, it depended what there was to keep me in the UK. So he "proposed" ...if you can call saying "well I suppose we had better start saving" is a proposal!!!! LOL This all happened within 9 weeks of meeting. And he's been consistantly "romantic" ever since!
Anyway we got engaged and married within 18 months of that and 31 years later we are still together.......YOU GET LESS FOR DOUBLE MURDER... ROFL. I've never been single so one things for sure, if anything happens to him (heaven forbid) I ain't getting involved again...It's too complicated!
It's really great having such a chatty bunch. Sorry I'm a bit slow at seeing what you are all talking about. But I do feel a part of it as long as you don't mind me being the tortoise of the gang....I'll plod and I will catch up...promise!
:) :D
kate2962
13-02-2006, 07:35 PM
WOW what a lot to catch up on!!! Karen I love your dolls house - it's been anlonging of mine for more years than I care to remember and for the last 5 years or so have said i WILL have one once the boys leave home as I can use one of their bedrooms to house it - they wouldn't appreciate it now you see!!
great choice of theme too as I have stacks of nature pics as taing them is another passion of mine and I did do one of my photograohy modules at college (only 4 or 5 years ago) on flower close ups.
Lesley what a lovely tale of romance - so you will be in for a good day tomorrow then!! I am 130 miles away from my DH he gave me a card to bring with me and I may get a phone call but he wouldn't think to send me flowers here!!! no romance in him at all!!

Yes I must admit I am very fortunate. I do warn other people though that when I met Roger, it was the first time I had been into a bar on my own and I walked out with my future husband SO BE WARNED and think what you're doing before you go out to a pub/bar. You may get more than a hangover!!!!!!LOL :D
People often ask how we managed to stay together. I think if we are both honest, it's because we are both a bit bloody minded and neither one is prepared to let the other get the house!!!! Apart from that we do love each other....on occasion !!!!
Great to chat with you all

Has no one been around tonight? Hows the flu Karen? I have been very busy shopping and scrapping!!! I went to my fave craft shop in the area on the outskirts of Norwich and had a goos spend the drove to a shop called The Range (they advertise on the back of a lot of mags) a huge place with a craft section but they hadn't really got anything extra to the main craft shop - but I have been found it and know what they have there now.
After a sit down for a while I started paper scrapping and have done 6 LOs - 2 were part done at home and brought with me to finish but the rest are for a friends birthday album. I hit scrapers block doing so many in one go - i need inspiration to make some more different, the others aren't the same but I feel i need to branch out more on some of the other pics I have.
oh well waffled on again - sorry!!!

Ah Well. Just trying to get details on Safari's at the moment as we want to be pampered on a 4 day one this year instead of organising our own. So am busy emailing Kenyan companies. Afraid I wasn't around last night cos I was doing my CJ entry for this!! :D I made my own paper, tag & everything!:D:D very proud of myself! Oh, and playing with brushes for the first time. Karen how was the cheetah? My Los are 8 x8 and very straight forward but I think are looking OK - I can't scan them into my gallery until after April as my friend joined up on here to look at the pages I do quite a while ago now so I can't risk him seeing them.

Well just home from Newcastle, did manage a quick jaunt in to Fenwicks got a few little bits of stash and some fabulous wool which I'm going to do a fancy scarf with. Got three balls so I can save a bit for stash of course lol.
On the way home saw a shooting star, I haven't seen one of those for years. It was lovely.
Looking forward to seeing some pics of your baby Cheetah Karen, have to say they are my favourite of the felines, soooo beautiful and the noise the cubs make when they are babies is sooo cute.
Well off for a nosey around the boards.

What a great thing to do Karen. Adopting a Cheetah...fantastic
I know it all sounds a bit much talking about Kenya and Safari's but we are now more disposed as we don't have dependants any more. We still save all year for our trip each year. We normally only get a couple of days to ourselves and do our own "Safari". But we are splashing out this year because last year it was our 30th Wedding Anniv (and couldn't do anything 'cos our eldest DS got married 2 weeks after our anniv!) and this year was my 50th. If you can't splash out once every 50yrs then when can you!! :P
The photography is fantastic. It's breathtaking when you are only feet away from enormous Elephants and tiny 3 week old baby's. Also to be about 10yds max from a pride of Lions lazing in the sun. It's indescribable. If you want to do it guys, you will! Just keep the dream real. You can make it reality. 10yrs ago I didn't think it would happen!!! :)
kate2962

We've got Port Lympne (Howletts) and Druscillas nearest us. Haven't been to Howletts but I've been to Druscillas many times. I just love the Meercats. They crack me up. We were lucky enough one year to be able to go into the ring tailed Lima cage and feed them which was pretty wicked. Druscillas do a "Keeper for the day" thing where people can pay for their teenage offspring to go and work with the keepers for a whole day. Do any of the other Zoo's do that. The youngsters really enjoy it, but I know it's not cheap.

I agree on the don't dream it, do it philosophy Lesley. Two years ago a couple of friends and I went off to Vegas for a week and did a mini road trip to see the Grand Canyon. We had a blast and vaguely talked about driving the west coast highway 1. Well we all then decided right, let's book flights then we're committed! That's exactly what we did and we again had a fabulous time (some of the piccies are in an album in my gallery).
When I divorced I swore no more what if's and I wishes .... I travelled more, taken more risks and seen much more in my last 5+ years than I had in the previous 30!

it is the kids and the money that hold us back most of the time. To take all 3 boys to places we want to go would cost a small fortune and more often then not they wouldn't enjoy it but I always wanted to be a mother above all else and i went through a LOT to get all 3 boys so to wait a few more years is nothing in the grand scheme of things for me - then i will do rather than dream (I hope)
Saying all that we have taken them on a few special hols like to Disney florida, new york and the caribbean and the oldest got to fly to New York and back on Concorde and this year we are splashing out and going to the bahamas as we think it will be the lat time the oldest will come away with us and so we wanted to do something special for them. We are heading to a water based resort so the boys should be in their element. After that it will take us until they have all decided to do their own thing to save up to do the things we want to!!! LOL

some of the hols we were taken by my mum after my dad died so I didn't have to pay anything!! The trip this year has taken us a few years to save for so I hope no one is disappointed.
I would rather be a mum first tho!!
I think you're right Kate - we're still in the young family stage. Once they've gone and there's just the 2 of us then we can splash out - ir like Lesley says - save up for these fantastic holidays. It's only in the last 6 years that my mum & dad have started going on cruises cos they can afford it now. So, from the furthest they've been was Malta, since the first cuuise they've done Russia, the north pole, Norway etc, the Amazon, Austrailia, Singapore, the South Pacific and as I type they're cruising back down the chilean fiords towards the south pole!
Although I do envy them I know my time will come later!

I would love to things now really I would but I don't resent my boys cos I can't. My dad had lots of plans for travelling after he retired but died 4 months before he was due to retire (early) he was only 54!! I think that is why mum took us all away for a super hol a year after he died as it was something he had planned on doing

what has everyone been up to today? I have had a quietish day as I did some crafting this am then DH and 2 DSs arrived to join me (not so quiet now!!! LOL) we had a wander into the shops and I got a few much needed clothes and the boys got a jigsaw to keep them quiet this evening (no play station here!!!). DH and boys have now taken the dog for a walk but will be back soon I expect. - not such an exciting day but a good one

Had a lazier day today Kate. Am on holiday this week and it's really gone quicklyy, but I have some some craft things which is great. Finished one album and started the next. But today, went and saw a friend; saw my son at work; chatted for an hour to a friend in their shop; went food shopping and about to go to Weight Watchers.....dreading that as I am not doing very well at the moment and it's getting me down a bit. Never mind! Am determined to lose some before I try and get into shorts for my big hol.

Hi everyone, quiet day for me. Had a bit of a slow morning as I stayed in bed until 9am then got up and off to work. It was hard to keep going after lunch. But home and some prima flowers to play with. I'm going to book a long weekend not next weekend but the one after. I'm converting my middle bedroom in to a craft room and have ordered a pretty big glass top desk (figure it's pretty indestructable re: paint, inc etc.) so I want to clear the room and paint it ready.
My o/h is over tomorrow night for the weekend so we're doing Valentines then. Really looking forward to seeing him as we've just managed very quick 1 or two night snatches since early Jan.
Off for a little wander around the boards.
Hugs and squishes.

Hi everyone
I've had a busy day today (with work..) and am now trying to tidy up my craftroom and the rest of the house as we have a guy coming tommorrow to check our house/garden is suitable for us to adopt a greyhound!!
Later on I hope to be able to sort out my craft stuff as I am teaching cardmaking at the weekend... if I then have a bit of time, I might actually think about the CJ!
so... I was wondering about ideas for themes, what did you have in the first digi CJ? I haven't done any type of CJs before so haven't got any starting reference... anyone else got any ideas from paper CJs that would transfer well to digi?
Kate did you enjoy your couple of days without everyone then?
Mandy I would love a lie in till 9am! Your glass desk sounds lovely but heavy to put into place:lol: Hope yo have a wonderful W/e!
I had 'the weather' in the last CJ, others were Object of my affection, poems & quotes, season's dreaming, simple pleasures, movie magic, things my mother taught me, book-ed, journeys, live life to the full, time, old wives tales and pure and simple. ( can you tell I have the list in front of me!!:D) I found live life to the full difficult - as I'm not very adventurous and especially as I was the last to do an entry!

Hmmmm maybe it's because I have one track mind etc. etc. but some of those listed above i.e. reasons to be cheerful, when I'm feeling blue and fave methods of chillin/relaxing seem fairly similar. Is that just me <_< ? I can always come up with something else. What's the general consensus?

Hi everyone
Been trying to catch up - am back in my sick bed again - and resenting it cos it is half term and I am meant to be having FUN! Seems the flu or whatever has now descended big time in my tummy - not good.
I quite agree about the travel thing. My Mom and Dad had worked so hard all their lives. They only went abroad once ever. They retired and booked a holiday to Australia to see my dad's sister - they never got to go as Mummy died suddenly aged 58. Made me live each day as it comes. I don't mean I am rash and stupid but if there iss omethingw e really want to do and can do it then we do rather than wait.
My Mom was one who kept everything for best too. It broke my heart when she died that I found drawers full of clothes and underwear she was either keeping for best or was new and put away for her holiday.
Nigel and have not been blessed with children - which is a great saddness - but we have made up for it with some great explore type holidays. Our dream is to do all 50 states of America - we have done 30 so far and seen so many of the incredible National Parks. I would love to go on a safari too - though confess to being such a wuss that the bugs frighten me

Karen {{{{{{hugs}}}}}} to you and I hope that you feel better soon.
It took a lot for us to have kids as I have major fertility problems but I was very lucky that treatment worked for us - mind you there was lots of heartahce along the way so I can sympatize with the sadness you feel at not being blessed with Children. My dad too died young at 54 and he had such big plans for his retirement (4 months after he died) He worked hard to build up his own business and I wish he had reaped more of the benefits during the time he was working - it not as if the compant couldn't function without him for a few weeks!! if only we knew what life had in store for us!!!

What a shame Karen -I do hope you feel better soon!
I sympathise girls. My Mum died when she was only 51 and my Dad followed her a year later. Neither of them got much of an opportunity to take time out for themselves in life and it makes me feel very sad.
I'm so glad I took the opportunity to backpack before I had children. As you say, you never know quite what's around the corner. I think our parents' generation were generally more preoccupied with possible rainy days - and concerned with putting aside for the future rather than enjoying the present - which is all very well providing ... ! I'm far more of a 'make hay while the sun shines' person than my mother ever was.
Well, DD and I have spent half term travelling to and from hospital! She had an Xray appointment the day before yesterday, an ultrasound on her kidneys last Friday and an MRI scan on her back today. The poor child's had one problem after another since New Year's Day. Her back gave out on 1st Jan and she's been in pain with it since; she's had 2 kidney infections, flu and tonsillitis! Hopefully, they'll be able to find the cause of her bad back from today's scan and treat her accordingly. She's thoroughly fed up with the whole scenario.
Enough wittering. Hope everyone has a good evening. :)

Karen, I haven't had children either (not sure even I can to be honest as I've haven't actively tried) and unlikely now at this age that I will. I also want to try and visit each of the 51 American states but I'm way behind you on this one!
My o/h is over for the weekend so apologies if I'm not around much. I will try to come up for air and check out the boards occasionally lol!
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Hugs and squishes.

Karen...everyone asks me about bugs, snakes, spiders etc......d'ya know. Apart from Mozzies, and the odd interesting beetle, I have not seen much at all in the 8 years I've been going to Kenya. Saw an enormous Python about 10ft long....DEAD on the the road where a lorry had run it over!!!! No spiders though. Thank goodness I don't like snakes or spiders. Sight of one "boris" and I'm gone!!!!
Equador was another thing though. Our youngest son was with us. He was 20 at the time. We were over there with the church working on an orphanage. Well there was a banana plantation that we ripped apart and made into a playground with swings and things. Greg (DS) he was determined to see a Tarantula....bless him!! AND HE FOUND ONE! Only a baby but of course it had to be kept safely so that EVERYONE could see it when they returned from doing their activities. I was the photographer for the trip and so I had to take the compulsory photo. And it stayed perfectly still (thank goodness) until someone else just had to poke it.....SCREAM or what!.
Then another guy Darwin (so named 'cos he went out every night to see what wildlife he could find) Came russhing in to the dining room and said...I've found a snake...anyone want to see it! So we all ran outside armed with cameras. It was only about a foot long and the diameter of a thumb...and it was red near it's head. HMMMM! Red -- nature---DANGER!!!! Yes it was the most poisonous snake in Equador! So one of the locals chopped it's head off with a spade. And Darwin!? Well he told us how he had been wandering around in his sandles in the dark when he felt something brush past him.....Oh yes, you guessed it...it had been the snake!!! It makes me shiver to think about it even now. :nono:
BUT HAVE NO FEAR PEEPS. We aint seen nothing like that in Kenya..Honest - - Yet! LOL :P

Kate I am so much better - just in time to go back to work!
I REALLY don't like spiders - or most bugs really. They have been known to make me physically sick with fear - I wish I wasn't like it - it spoils many things.

18-02-2006, 11:20 PM
Glad that you are feeling a lot better - are you back on Monday like me? We have a TTD tho so not quite so bad!!!! LOL

19-02-2006, 10:23 AM
Hi Karen Kate & everyone
Must admit, although I hate spiders, I can be brave when kids are around as long as they are not BIG boris's. I have heard that people can be physically sick at the sight of them but never known of anyone. So you're not alone. So glad I am not like that! My boys and nephews tease me at the best of times...they would be intollerable if I were really bad.
Have you all had a good weekend. I've had quite a lot of fun actually. We have just bought a business with a friend....make slabs and other concrete garden stuff. Well our partners DS and our youngest DS are supposed to be doing all the donkey work....uphill struggle I think you call it. They just don't seem to understand the HARD WORK ethic. At the moment they are coasting along. Never mind our partner Peter will be getting hold of part of them and dragging them into action. They won't have much choice when he grabs them!!! :P
Well I went to the workshop with my DH yesterday. (Quite funny really....I went from waxing a clients legs to sweeping up dust and dirt in a cold workshop) I really had great fun working alongside Roger (DH) and Peter (Co- partner) We're back down there again this afternoon. We're moving about 2500 molds which are used for the slabs. AND we have actually found that there is space in the workshop to move and work now...AMAZING! WE will get them organised if it kills us. I could best describe the mess as Not uinlike my DS's bedroom...you know EVERYTHING on the floor in no particular order.
Makes me laugh though when they say they haven't enough room in their bedroom! I always tell them to turn the room upside down 'cos there's loads more room at head height!!
 how can anyone have 2500 moulds for slabs & concrete ornaments and know what is where!!! Sounds as though it's done nothing for your nails Lesley!
I've had a busy weekend with friends over. Busy doibng not a lot type thing but it was nice. I think I've finally got her semi hooked in to scrap. I've worked out that my style is too 'cluttered' for her as when I showe her papercutz and simple scrapbooking she was marking away pages that she liked! Also the 12x12 seems to have put her off but she saw the 8x8 album I've just done for my brother's wedding and she's decided she likes that size. also got her to do an entry for a CJ I have going round and she seems to like the challenge of that!
kate2962
19-02-2006, 10:11 PM

I have finally decided on my theme - it cam,e to me in a dream last night!!! (honestly) I want to do BEAUTIFLUL BRITAIN its about what you love about Britain, it could be a village, town or city(not necessarily whereyou live), or maybe the wonderful weather we get or a tradition - the limits are only your mind!!! I hope that sparks of some ideas! I would like 12 x 12 jpeg please
Sounds a beautiful theme Kate - I'll look forward to that one!
kate2962

no i suppose not, d you work in a school too Elin?
Sorry Kate - only just seen it. No, just DS at school. It's a very community orientated school so everyone refers to it as 'our school' whether they are a teacher, pupil or parent! I do have a vested interest though as my Brownies have the same holidays as School!
kate2962
25-02-2006, 01:35 PM
I have been making up an info sheet to send to everyone with the themes, format, size, and emails on but still need a few more bits of info before I can send it out, for those of us that did the Digi divas 1 do you want the same size and format as before and are you using the same emails as before? I don't want to include emails that you amy want to change so can you let me know please?
same as before for me please Kate!
kate2962
25-02-2006, 01:41 PM
I had got yours but rater than list names it was easier to ask everyone in the first digi CJ!!
how are you today?
 I gathered that. I'm fine. I've a very tearful 3yr oldthough. Heather never really had teh terrible twos - but she's having a wonderful tearful threes! Anything sets her off which is a shame as she's so confident really. And 1 1/2 hours and counting till Andrew goes to Beaver sleepover:D:D, then Samantha goes home.... Heather goes to bed at 7 and DH goes to work at 7.30. Then I have the whole evening to myself:D:D
What are you up to?

Ohh an dthink I might have to use these somehow. Was looking for a flower font and found a freebie so had a play with some patterned paper I'd made.
No! Oops! Wonder if anyone rated Elaine?

Karen rated Elaine as soon as Elaine asked someone to and she did say she would rate us all at least twice bu as yet we haven't been rated - I know Elaine was haing problem staying on UKS as her comp wouldn't let her sign in all of a sudden
