The Low Down
After completing your own entry in your CJ please include a list somewhere in the bag / parcel of eight other subjects that you would like people to do an entry of (from the above list or of your own choice). Also add to the list Suprise Me!
When you receive a journal please choose one subject off the owners list, complete the entry and cross it off the list. If you choose Suprise Me! please ensure that the subject is not allready listed.
Each month before post date we will decide what technique to use on the next entry. (To make it fair we can have one choice each). To start the ball rolling I propose we have to use stamps somewhere on your own CJ entry.

Towards the end of the CJ we will sort out the Christmas Present addition (That's a fab idea by the way).

OK, hope I've made perfect sense to everyone ! ! Let me know if not!

Where's my CJ?

Hello fellow Christmas nutters - looking forward to getting to know you all a little better over the next ten months!!

samb
07-02-2006, 10:48 PM
Hellooo...Have finished my bits and bobs for the night and can now sit on here until I fall asleep.
Can I ask that you all pm me your full name, address, e-mail address and a contact tel no. (which will only be used if I really really have to).

Also do you think it will work if we all choose one part of Christmas and do that in everyones CJ,(as I originally proposed) or would you prefer to choose a subject for your CJ and everyone work to that? (Am I making any sense? :D ). eg, do you want a CJ of 10 christmas recipes or do you want a cj with a recipe entry, song entry, tipple etc? I'm happy to go with the majority.

lolli
07-02-2006, 11:20 PM
Hi - would it work if we came up with a list of 10 topics then as the journal goes round you pick one of the topics (depending what has already been done) and do your entry?

bevvie
07-02-2006, 11:21 PM
I love the original idea Sam where you have a book with a recipe a, song etc etc etc ... It would be nice to have a full chrissmassy book ... rather than a recipe book etc

Thats my opinion (for what its worth) but I am happy to go with the flow ...... :) We may have the same topic but doesn't necessary have to be the same LO each month... as we go along we will all learn new techniques or may have several fave christmas songs etc ....

Kirsty262
07-02-2006, 11:22 PM
I am happy to go with the majority as I can't think of a theme at the moment LOL

bevvie
07-02-2006, 11:23 PM
oh Lorna ... I like that idea!!!!! Yes I change my vote lol!!! So its a bit more of a cross between the 2  excellent!

bevvie
07-02-2006, 11:24 PM
Sam can we have a blinkie aswell ..... I have no idea how to do these but I think they are great!!..... Is anyone any good at them ??

samb
07-02-2006, 11:59 PM
Yep, must admit I like Lorna's idea, where we all end up with a whole christmas book, but at the same time we get to do different subjects each month. Everyone else agree?

lolli
08-02-2006, 08:26 AM
Was wakened with my DS during the night and started thinking about my cj. I am toying with the idea of using a paper bag book, only thing is it would mean that each person would do a single lo or 'single lo size tag' for a pocket? Think it would be way to think to use enough bags to get even single lo for everyone - may need to think about it some more.

Clay 36
08-02-2006, 08:57 AM
I'm happy to go with the majority too. I love everything about Christmas. Can I add "special Christmas ornaments" to the list of what we do though. It'd also be good if we were "given" a list and everyone will get to do an entry on each item even if it's in different books, that way at least you get time to plan for what's coming. Does that make sense to everyone  .

Tracy: welcome on board - it'll be good to CJ with you again.

lolli
08-02-2006, 09:11 AM
Had a few ideas for pages - a christmas song / signs of Christmas / presents / Christmas food / stockings / advent / weather / tree / decorations

Janie
08-02-2006, 09:44 AM
So, am I understanding this correctly....there will be a list of suitable themes/ideas on the first post, and each month we get to pick one, as long as it has not already been done in that particular journal so far? Sounds cool!

How about a list of items/techniques too eg corner rounder/ribbons/eyelets, one of which must be chosen each month and used?

Maybe we could each print off the master list and send it round with our journal, crossing off what we do and so on, so the next person knows what is available (just to avoid confusion if it's not immediately obvious which theme/technique has been chosen) ? Or would that complicate it too much??

I just had this idea for mine of two little stockings containing weenie sealed envelopes, and you got to do a lucky dip from each to see what theme/technique you got, so it's a bit more of a challenge than choosing, and therefore maybe doing a similar thing in each persons journal.

Shall I shut up and go away yet??

lolli
08-02-2006, 10:02 AM
Janie - that sounds good, like the idea of having an technique list. The lists going round with each journal wold work rather than just a list on here. The only thing about having a lucky dip might be difficult if you don't have stuff to do a certain technique.

Clay 36
08-02-2006, 10:08 AM
I agree there might be difficulties with the "technique" bit of it - I have some things but not everything and the only computer I can access is the one at work so can't download fonts/software or anything. I have arthritis and can't do anything that requires hand cutting. The last CJ I did, one of the ladies had no cutting systems at all so that would have given her difficulties. But having said that, if someone needed something cut and I had the Sizzix or QK die for it, I'd happily cut something for anyone that needs it for their CJ entry.

Hope that's helpful  .

This is when I become a real pain  . I'd like everything acid free so I can pass it down through the family.

bevvie
08-02-2006, 10:17 AM
These all seem really good ideas .... I am not sure about the technique though ... as love people being free with there work and all doing there own thing ....

Another idea for a topic would be Christmas traditions, and I also love the idea of the recipe one aswell!.... and what about fave christmas colours ..... some may like the traditional colours whereas others may like some of the more up to date colours ??

This is going to be such great fun ..... I love christmas!!!!!! I was digging through my Christmas papers box last night and there was so much yummy stuff I had to close the box before my head exploded

Janie
08-02-2006, 10:46 AM
Well, for techniques etc I was thinking along the lines of eyelets/ribbons/buttons/hand sewing/hand writing/tags etc...stuff that most people should have, rather than anything cutting edge, but am happy to go with whatever most want to do. It was only a suggestion, and could just as easily be a twist that I add in mine, even if the group as a whole don't want to do it that way!!

lolli
08-02-2006, 10:56 AM
I like the technique idea, i'm sure that between us we could come up with a list of 10 things which we would all be able to use. Like the idea of giving each posting date a different thing - 1st entry - ribbon etc.

Janie
08-02-2006, 11:28 AM
I just had one more thought.........seeing as our last posting date is for December, I thought it might be nice if we included a little Christmas gift to the person we've been sending to - maybe £5 in value of scrapping bits (although we could decide on this later). Like I say, just a thought, and I appreciate some are more strapped for cash than others.

pinkrosymolly
08-02-2006, 11:52 AM
Well hello all.

Just spending my coffee break reading all your entries. i love all the ideas and think techniques would be good to have in in some way - i need to broaden my knowledge and know how a bit so it will prompt me to do so. But yes think should be fairly basic - i have no diecutters etc.

Colours is good idea for a theme - could we have some thing about true meaning of christmas eg nativity ?

Looking forward to this!

08-02-2006, 12:15 PM
I love the pressie idea Janie .... that would give it a little twist at the end thats really good....

Apologies about the techniques thingy ... maybe I was making it far to complecated in my own head ....... So if I am right ... for example Jan might be ribbon ... we would just have to make sure we used ribbon somewhere on the LO???? ... yes sorry that idea sounds fine

I also like the idea Sara of having a Nativity theme for one of the pages ..... do we have 10 ideas yet ?????

Clay 36
08-02-2006, 12:17 PM
Jane, have no problem with what you're suggesting there at all. Haven't tried some of those on any of my LOs/CJ entries yet so would be happy to have a go. As I said earlier though, if anyone needs anything cut and I can help, I'd be happy to.

I also like the gift idea. Make sure you have your likes/dislikes up to date for then ladies.

So has anyone started covering their CJ yet for this ???

Not yet LOL don't know what size to do

What size is everyone else doing?

Clay 36
08-02-2006, 12:24 PM
Think I'll do my cover slightly larger but the pages will be 8x6 inches - I liked that size when I did my other one.

Am going to a 10 hour crop on the 18th so will probably do it then - need to travel light that day - possibly no transport so CJ/AAC work should do fine.

bevvie
08-02-2006, 12:30 PM
I have an 8x8 Pink Pig Journal upstairs so I will use that .... and I have lots of christmassy papers and stickers etc ...... so hopefully I won't have to buy too much for this CJ

Kirsty262
08-02-2006, 12:31 PM
I may also use a pink pig but I don't have many christmas embellies and papers so may have to wish for some

lolli
08-02-2006, 01:15 PM
I did Shimelles Christmas Journal Class this 2005/06 and bought the winter and christmas DCWV papers so think I will make use of what is left of them. I am still toying with the paper bag idea (so just under 6x6) just need to work out the practicalities of how it would work

Will probably start getting organised next week - my DS1 is 3 this weekend so busy baking his cake and sorting things out for his party (23 1.5-3yr olds  ) so kind of busy for the rest of this week.

bevvie
08-02-2006, 01:37 PM
WOW ur brave Lorna

I was thinking about the paperbag book .... do you think it will withstand being shipped around and handles so often ....soem of the CJ's in my group at the mo seem to be looking a little worse for wear ... and they have been made with mount board etc??? Although I did like the idea of having little pockets and tags for a paperbacg book

Kirsti ... If there is something in particular you are looking for let me know as I seem to have loads of christmassy bits!!

I am toying with doing mine in some free Blitzen papers I got...... or I have some really lovely stickers that I may use ..... That is sometimes the problem when you have too much!!

Kirsty262
08-02-2006, 01:40 PM

Snap LOL

There is nothing in particular that I want with regard to embellishments but if you have a few you want to swap I will swap for something with you as I am going to have to buy some papers and embellies anyway

lolli
08-02-2006, 02:16 PM
Bev - one of the cjs I id before had a paperbag book in it and it went round fine. I've never had any journals which looked worse for wear! A bit bubble wrap an a good size paded envelope and journals should be ok.

bevvie
08-02-2006, 02:25 PM
Thats fine .... Maybe a bit wose for wear wasn't really a good explanation ... that made them sound tattered ... which they weren't ... probably better described as used!!

Anyway ... it was only a thought.... I think the paper bag book would be good with all the pockets and tags ... that would be something a bit different aswell.....

lolli
08-02-2006, 02:31 PM
Bev - I think the only thing which is keeping me from doing the paperbag book is that it would mean each person would only get space for a single lo (approx 6x6). One good thing is that it makes it quick to do your entry and reduces the presure a bit. I'm doing the Love paperbag book swap so might see what I think once I've done that.

I've just put a paper bag book together for a swap and have decided that i'm going to use one for my Christmas Cj. I believe there is a Blinkie maker called Peechy some where on the Community Chat Board and she has done some excellent Blinkies, she did my winterbaby blinkie and the Glitter Girls Blinkie. Of course I am not trying to detract from the other most excellent Blinkie makers here at UKS, it's just that Peechy is the only member I know that does them. If I fend the thread for you I will post a link ok ;) :)

hi all!! i think the size will be ok for the change, sigs have to be 200x500, your blinkie is 162x90 so should be fine. i'll keep a copy of the blinkie in case and will resize it after the changes if need be xxx

please remember to copy all your sigs/blinkies and the code in your sig box because everything will be lost during the upgrade (if i understand it all properly:unsure: ) when the site has been upgraded you can copy the ones you want back!

Morning gals. Haven't started yet but am going to a 10 hour crop this weekend so intend getting it organised then.

Am having a "senior" moment. For our own and obviously first LOs, do we just put something in from the list that we want and use whatever technique we fancy and then just pick something different from both lists whenever we get the next CJ?

Janie
13-02-2006, 09:24 AM
Hi Heathr,

i understood it to be that we chose a subject from the list and then somewhere it had to include that months technique - stamping this month.

You include a list of subjects in your CJ, and people cross them off as they do them, and each month, someone different will choose the technique to be used.

Hi all. Hope you're OK. 2 weeks to first post day. How are we all getting on? I'm just working out the post route at the moment. Will PM you in the next day or two and let you know who you will be posting to.

Unfortunately Suedy has had to drop out of the CJ due to family problems. Before I post for a newbie, does anyone know another person who would like to join in? Let me know x

Hi Let me see if I ahve this right.

I think I will be taking Suedy's place in the posting order. Posting is the first of every month. We all use the same technique each month...this month is stamping (thank goodness I have a couple of christmas stamps) Inside our CJ we put in a list of the themes for each page, to also include surprise me. Each person ticks off the theme as they do it and if it's surprise me, it mustn't be a theme already used.

Not sure what the Christmas pressie bit is though and there are 9 techiniques listed so is there another one to come? Or is that the pressie bit?

Is there anything I have missed?

bevvie
16-02-2006, 02:51 PM
Nope thats it basically .... Sam is yet to give us our posting order so uve not missed out .... Just need 10 diff topics .... we will all choose a combined technique for each month and then we have to use it somewhere on our LO's..... all usual rules apply for CJ's ....... The Christmas pressie was a great suggestion (sorry I can't remember who by now) that on the last posting we will wrap up a stash type gift and send it with our last posting... so we each get one..... Details have not yet been finalised for that!!!

I think thats it really!!!

Heather I got your gorgeous cj here with me now, DH had to sign for it as I had to go to work for a 10am start, I didn't make a list like everyone else I just wrote down on each of the double page layout what was on your first posting on this thread and I know there is more than 10 subjects but I thought it would be nice for everyone to choose which subject they would like to do and not done in any particular order and so there will be left over subjects I thought I would do myself when it comes back at the end of this round :)

Hi. Sorry about the delay in responding. Am still off work and only sporadically on the computer just now. Lolli's CJ turned up this morning. I hadn't read the front page of the CJ thread properly and was horrified to see they're only going 1st class - I really wouldn't recommend this ladies. Any other CJ group I've been in has ALWAYS sent 1st class RECORDED so that all our hard effort and lovely CJs didn't disappear. If necessary I'll send stamps to Tracy to put in to cover this but I'll be sending any CJs I get that way for my own peace of mind too. Please consider changing this.

samb
07-03-2006, 11:53 AM
We're not doing recorded delivery on the other CJ's I'm in, just proof of postage. HOWEVER, if thats what people want then we'll ammend it no problem. Janie did send her CJ to me by recorded mail, so do we all want to change this?

Kirsty262
07-03-2006, 11:56 AM
I am happy to go with the majority

lolli
07-03-2006, 01:38 PM
Recordered del doesn't give you any more cover than proof of postage. I have done loads of cjs and never had any problem with them. Even sending recorded del the post office can't track it. They can only tell you that it left and when it arrived (if it doesn't they have no way of tracing it).

I received Nats this morning.

I usually send mine recorded as a matter of course.

In another CJ group we have had a worrying 3 weeks waiting for a CJ to turn up and that was actually sent recorded.

Have almost finished my entry. Just wanted to check are we sticking with the actuall postal dates or are we posting as and when we are finished?? Wasn't sure if we wanted to keep to dates so they all arrive home just before christmas? Also with the pressie thing?

samb
08-03-2006, 10:03 AM
Can we stick to post dates please. :) I don't want anyone to feel pressured into completing pages quicker than expected, also it makes it easier to keep a track on things. Hope thats ok :D

Clay 36
08-03-2006, 05:04 PM
What you're saying about recorded delivery may be the case Lorna but at least if one did go missing - I always tell them a value of £20 on it - the person would at least get that back to cover the cost of replacing what's gone missing - some people spend a lot of money on CJ entries and my CJ means a lot to me. Will send Tracy stamps to cover the extra postage so that people aren't out of pocket. Sorry if I'm causing problems with this. That wasn't my intention.

winterbaby
08-03-2006, 06:51 PM
Royal Mail have a website that includes an option for the sender to type in the recordered delivery code and this will tell the sender where the parcel is at the moment and then the sender should let the receiver know where it is so as they know when to expect it. Hope this helps and also for my piece of mind I will be sending by recorded delivery as I would'nt like to be responsible for losing everyones hard work :) Heather know need to send any extra stamps ok I don't mind sending by rec. del ;) :)
