found this posted by little lucy the other day so have copied it over here :)
I've been getting prompts from Shimelle (the art journal taster). If you are an all round artistic person (like me), it's quite easy. You basicly take a word a week and reflect your thoughts around this word. I haven't finished my entries but I have prepared my pages (which is what seems to be the best thing to do first). Don't worry about how you decorate your pages. Fill your journal in by random order if you want. Prepare (make notes) for your journalling seperately.

one of the link in this post has been taken over by some very unsavory people since this was posted way back Jan 2006 (a UKS member just brought this to my attention tonight) - I have edited my post and removed it but its still in the quoted post by Nannyannie above - I would suggest no one clicks it as its really not pleasant. I have asked a mod to edit nannyannies post to remove the corrupted link.

Is there an art journal SG or something similar to Art Journalling please?
We run regular Art Journal classes at our studio once a month on a Sunday and we also have just started a beginners Art journal class during the week as well. To see the details click - HERE (http://shop.afth.co.uk/workshops-122-c.asp)
Also I put quite a few of my pages up on my blog and have a step by step journal pages - HERE (http://dyan-reaveley.blogspot.com/2009/02/step-by-step-journal-pages.html)
Hope these can be of use.

Hiya
I dont know whether I am being very thick about this as it is a bit late, but I am trying to work the idea of a art journal out. It seems really interesting, but I am slightly confused. Is it like a normal journal but you just do arty things into it. Is that correct?
Any feedback would be great thanks

Hi kerry :) Im no expert but these are my thoughts on art journals - an art journal is really whatever you want it to be - it can be a kind of diary or something like a diary/journal full of thoughts etc - or it can just be a book of experimental things you want to try out, with or without a theme - I saw the most gorgeous 'birds' journal at a crop recently which was full of different techniques and media but every page had to have a bird reference. Lots of people do alphabet journals and do a page for each letter of the alphabet - there are loads of examples of art journal pages on the net too. I haven't done one in a while, but I have an ongoing non themed journal that I can just go and play in if I want to get a bit creative but dont have a specific project in mind. My pages tend to be just anything I fancy playing with at the time, and sometimes i add a quote or a 'thought for the day' or a list for that day - often a daft one like current top 10 fave sweets! or songs from my iPod etc or a list of things I want to achieve.
Really - an art journal is a personal thing and you can make it however and whatever you like :) hope that helps a little?
Hi been looking for art journalling and journalling just posting so I can find this again
There is another step by step journal page on our blog - HERE (http://dyan-reaveley.blogspot.com/2009/08/step-by-step-art-journal-spread.html)

I'm going to have a go. I'll let you know how I get on!
i signed up for the Art Journal Caravan because I wanted to try digital and then print it out afterwards. There's loads of prompts and some great pages in the gallery. I have only just got Photoshop CS4 and still finding my way round it so learning loads and taking ages on each one!
There are my cover and first three from the prompts.
I also did an online course with Dina Wakley, Graffiti of my life and learned loads of techniques on that, especially using spray inks and different ways to use my acrylics. The pages are in an album on my blog but I haven't written on all of them yet.
If anyone can get to Dyan's classes I would go, she taught me loads about painting and different mediums and got me started with collage etc

OMG Jane - your pages are GORGEOUS!. I love how you have your photo in the paintbox and that diary page is
I understand the concept of digi - and i'm sure my hubby would be delighted for me to do digi - no more mess! But i'd miss the smooshing around with paints and gesso and bits of paper and the tactile dimension of my pages - do you not miss all that?
Is it possible that the digi elements could be used for a hybrid journal?
I also did the Dina Wakley 'Grafitti Your Life' - brilliant techniques although my binding ended up a bit naff (lessons to learn - dont use vintage papers - they dont take up to sewing!). I have just started another journal using the same techniques and Dina's trademark 'Lady' silhouette.
I keep saying i'll go do a class with Dyan - she's not a million miles away (about 2 hours on the train) but it's just finding the time. I'll have to wait now until the start of the holiday year as I've no more hols left at work.
Thanks for sharing your pages Jane - BTW Congratulationson your new Grandaughter, she is beautiful. (Opportunity for loads of scrapping pages I guess)
Thanks Chris, I would never give up actual materials, I love all of the mess and the unexpected results, far more exciting. I only started the digital because I was snowed in for a few days and all of my stuff was in my studio. I'll certainly print out some of the files to use in my 'real' journals.
I had problems with the sewing too, I pulled too tight and ripped the paper but after that I put sellotape down the middle of each page to strengthen it. I want to make another one but I would fold pages rather than make the signature strips, I didn't like them not matching up to my pages, they looked all disjointed.

Ditto - although mine was more to do with the sheet music I used original and rather brittle so it didn't withstand much tugging to make it tear - LOL - now why didn't i think of selotape? (makes sense now that your've mentioned it). Re the signatures - thats exactly what i've done this time round Jane - far too much phaffing about with the siggy strips and I haven't got the patience LOL.
Great to see your you've not given up the actual messy side. :) I hope you're going to continue to 'WOW' us with your pages throughout the caravan journey. Amazing pages so far.

Jane did you take an Suzi Blu online class? if you did was it worth it? I'm thinking of signing up for one
Yes I did sign up for one, I didn't think it was worth the money. The videos are far too long, too much waffle and you have to search through loads of repeated stuff to get to the actual instruction. I didn't finish it because I just got fed up with wading through all of the video clips.
I had a friend when I was working my dog, he was a brilliant dog trainer and certainly knew his stuff but to gain one minute of good advice I had to listen to two hours of bullsh+ and in the end I just didn't have the will or the time. This course reminded me of him and the loooong hours spent trying to concentrate on the bits i needed to know.

Thanks Jane, I don't think I'll bother then, I don't mind having to listen to a "bit of waffle "but not loads of it. I'll have a look around for something else
check out her youtube clips to give you an idea...
Somebody mentioned another similar artist but I can't remember her name - possibly Ursula somebody?
