View Full Version : Chill Out...Relax...Loosen your pants...It's the South Wales Crop 14 January Chat!

Hi everyone
Our theme this month is Chill Out (after all the rushing about in December generally, and specifically at our last crop...I figured we all needed a chilled out day!). So, therefore, we will be having one class (but longer than usual, because of the two techniques involved) taught by the lovely Dawn Evans (first time teaching at the crop, so YEY! Clap clap clap...thank you Dawn). It is a first page for your 2006 album and the idea is that you add photos and journaling for each month as it passes...to highlilght the goings-on in your life/ family.
The 12 photos you can see are on the front of little booklets which open to reveal another photo and some bullet point journaling about the month. It's a great project and so pretty too! Love that Chatterbox paper! The title is made by stamping and Diamond Glazing card...great technique which is always a fab one for future layouts.
The tools you will need to bring are:
A bottle of Diamond Glaze or similar (yell if you're not sure)
Foam pads (to raise the title tiles)
Paper trimmer
Paper piercer
January 06 photos (if you have any...not essential)
Hermafix glue or similar
Glue dots (or something else to attach the ric-rac)
The other part of the day (as we're only having one class) is a challenge, which is to create a LO using the Becky Higgins sketch shown below. The title of the layout has to be Chill Out or Chilled Out (which can be interpreted in various ways of course). You can prepare all the stuff you want to beforehand, but the LO has to be made at the crop on the day...and you've got all day to do it...in a chilled out manner!
Sue B was in Florida for a couple of weeks before Christmas and has bought back some nice products as prizes for you guys (and you just KNOW I ain't gonna win that damn door raffle!!! So one of you will get your mits on 'them' :P )
Anyway...any questions, just yell. And get chatting!
Love

I had a very quiet Christmas as most of the family were elsewhere. DS and family were in Madrid visiting the Spanish in-laws and DD never ventures outside on Christmas day but the Christmas season has been lovely nonetheless. DS bought me some gorgeous Anna Griffin papers and embellishments - he has good taste and knows what I like. And DH and I treated ourselves to a digital camera - a Nikon Coolpix 5600 - and I haven't stopped snapping since!!
Oh and DS also brought me some lovely Turron from Madrid!! Scrummy!!

hi everyone hope you had a nice christmas i'm now going to ask a thick question but is diamond glaze and clear gloss for liquid embossing the same thing if not where can i get diamond glaze from thank you bethan
Chrissie
02-01-2006, 03:51 PM
Yep, that's right Bethan :D Any brand would do...I guess it's just like Hoover...the brand name is very often used as the name of the product because it's the best known or first one out there or something.

That's a shame Sarah. Are you going to see Peter Pan in Cardiff? I saw that over Christmas.
Right...the next two on the reserve list then are Katie and Lesley. I'll get hold of them to make sure they still want to/can come.

Lovely class LO, one question, what size photo do we need?
Evans1
02-01-2006, 09:20 PM
Hiya, Hayley-the exact size of my photos are 1 7/8" x 2 3/4" !!! (but 2" x 2 3/4") would fit:)
If anyone is using a HITI to print, then I used the 6"x4" (4 x1 )sticker setting to get this size-Santa was very kind to me this year!!!

what is diamond glaze ??????????? sounds like the varnish dh did the floor boards with
Dibby
03-01-2006, 11:46 PM
Its a glue basically, glues almost anything to anything, but it can also be used as a glaze, giving a glasslike raised appearance to whatever you put it on.

Think I'll just come on Saturday, make a mess, eat cake and shop! (so what's new!!!). Not sure about scrapping, need some serious chill time, everyone elses life has been at me for the last 4 weeks! Can't get organised about anything, have accidently wiped out loads of my Christmas piccies, including the one of my pudding for the Newbury LO. Also wiped my DD1 new digital camera piccies too, not very happy with me!!! Had to buy another Christmas pudding and eat that today just to take a pigging photo!!! However I did have a marathon scrapping week immediately after Christmas day and completed our twins 21st birthday albums . They were so thrilled with them, a bit of surprise as they thought I was making an embarrassing banner to go outside!!! :) :)

Yep...come and CHILL! :P That's the order of the day.
By the way ladies...I couldn't get the flowery paper that Dawn's used on her layout but, as you can appreciate, it's not that important because it's a layout you haven't got photos for yet anyway. So we're using the same range of paper but in a stripe, as below. Same tones exactly of course.

What else are you supposed to do there then! You sound as though you deserve a bit of a chill-out.
My poorly dance seems to have hit a bit close to home, DS13 seems to have come down with what looks like mumps! I thought kids were vaccinated against that!

my DD has to have another mmr jab as she has only had the one, the boys have had 2 so are ok. Mumps is doing the rounds big time in wales at the mo so hope everyone else is up to date on their jabs. Me I had it when I was 18 months, mum had all 5 of us down with it at the same time

I remember having them at about 5, and it was horrible.
hiya girls - it's looking good for me to be there on Saturday - yes I was hit and miss for a while too :)
I may need to ask for a bit of help in packing at the end though as I'm still having a lot of pain in my arms and legs and by then it will probably be showing.

You have to have the shapes there as they are drawn, but how you interpret that is up to you. You can't move the shapes around.

Thanks especially to Crafty Pastimes and Scrap Attack for coming to be our shops, and to everyone (bless you) who helped get out/put away tables, sweep up, and generally tidy.
Well done also to Imogen, Hayley and Penny for those lovely challenge winners. I thought that it was extremely hard to pick this month...those layouts were gorgeous.
Thanks everyone for the help today in getting the car unloaded and reloaded - it was much appreciated.
Unfortunately my journey home wasn't uneventful - I broke down just after getting on the M5 and then had to wait an age to be recovered. Didn't get home till gone 7 and I'm still trying to warm up as all I had in the car was a fleece.

At the moment it is...cos not everybody in the world will be going to Bonanza :) We'll see what the general consensus is, but I suspect that there'll only be a few of us going. If loads of people ARE going, then we'll move it. :D
Thank you again for doing a great class...I don't know how you teach so quietly!
