Hi I thought I would start a new thread to inspire me to get going for the new year :)

I have been watching Tims dvd and love using the ink pads and spritzing with water but I fancy the pens but only have cranberry at the moment but as I got some money from christmas I might buy a few more.
Above is a link about how to use them :)

Thanks :)

I scavenged again today and got an empty sweet jar which will make a nice journal jar.

I had this idea of doing it the opposite way instead of filling it with things to write about I thought I would deccorate the jar and call it memories of 2006.
I know I wont do something everyday but ie I thought I would write about special things that happen say on New years day write about what we did and roll up the memory and store in the jar tied with a nice ribbon :)

I thought to adapt this for a present an empty decorated jar with a bag of rolled up papers tied say for a new mother to keep a note of her babys milestones?

Here is a lovely link which shows you how to attatch transparencies :)

I tend to use a pritt stick but always wonder if they will stay in place forever ie in my altered books.
I think sometimes a combination is better :)

Meandering book :)
I was reading cps and altered the book so it is easier to make.
step 1 I used 4 and a half x 4 and a half but next time I would use 4x4 or 6x6.
Cut card and join with very strong tape but leave a slight gap so it folds up.
step 2 cover with paper and you will see it leaves a small amount of tape showing.

Forgot to say the one in cloth paper scissors was sewn.

I did have a go but have not finshed it yet as I used canvas and painted it.

I used zigzag on a large setting.

Is this a good place to ask if anyone knows where I can get some of those pin backs/bales that Tim Holtz uses on his jewellery? You have the choice to use it as a brooch or hang from a chain as a necklace. Would love to do some altered art and wondered if any of you had seen them for sale. Thank you. :)

I'm sure I saw some on the scrapcanvas website before. Yep, in the jewelry section http://www.scrapcanvas.com/products/shopping.php I've seen these types used in his book, not too pricey either

little_lucy_13

wondered what a deco was (another great idea). If anyone is into using alcohol inks, I had an idea before. They have thick glass photo frames / block for a fiver in boots, 6 x 4 size (although you could get one cheaper in the pound shop probably). You know those ones you slide the photo in the top. I thought I could cover the whole glass in alcohol inks or just create a faux border. Best to use a black and white photo though

Boo, do you mean you want to have a brooch pendant? What you wanted to make - is it in the book / on dvd. Just to get an idea of what you're looking for to finish it off. Or you could get a jewelry charm (as it has the loopy bit) and just glue a badge back on. Found some on ebay (item no 8225742900). I bet I have got it wrong!
I got a bit lost (on how to make the coin envelope+ tag bk) when you get to gluing the envelopes together. I'm sure what she means is that the glue goes down the middle of the envelopes, not on any edges. Going to try this when the post office opens tomorrow (coz I got no coin envelopes!)

Hi Jayne:)

Love this but instructions are alittle beyond me

There is an easier way.

If you fold a piece of card the width of the bottom of the envelopes by ie 2 ins per envelope plus 3 extra.
crease every inch and concertina.
in each valley stick an envelope to the back with all the envelope flaps facing the same way.
You can add a cover to one side the same size as the envelopes and to the other end the same size with a flap to go over the top of all the envelopes and have either a pointed end or a round end.
I will try and make one to show you but if you practise with a piece of card concertina it and look at it from the side you will see that one end starts with a hill and as the first envelope is stuck to the back this is ok but at the other end you will end with a valley without an envelope to give a bit of slack so your book opens better.

I hope I make sense if not I will do one as soon as I can.

I saw this fantastic book today in Smiths it was about wizzards but it was the book design that was so inspiring

brief explination of some of the pages.

One had a handmade envelope as a pocket and contained an aged document.
Another had a slip in pocket tag.

There was only about 10 double pages each page had blocks of writing and pictures and was very tactile.

I want to have a go at making one

Just need to decide on a subject :)

I had an experiment but I am not happy yet.

I wanted to do games but I think I need to do some reasearch first.

The bingo card bottom right is hinged to hide something underneath and the bottom left is a pocket to add something.

Hope showing you what I am thinking helps.

It is not that I hate this it is just not what I was aiming for

Tags can be so much more than just a tag book of individual tags.

If you cut 3 the same and stick together with a strong tape then cover both sides it gives you a bigger area to decorate ie. you could do 6 sets of 3 decorate the insides close then thread onto ring sort of hidden works of art so you have to take off the ring to open and see them

The 2 outside ones could have the tops shortened so only one hole is used if you prefer and the trios could be reinforced on the centre hole and a ribbon tie or elastic to keep them shut until viewed :)

LME

Way to use up old square cards. I will have to search for the pattern but if you cut a square card in half and trim the bottom a few centimetres there is an origami way of making the front of the card into a top and the back into a bottom and none of the writting can be seen.

Will update when I find link :)

LME
06-01-2006, 03:44 PM
I will edit the title when I can think of what to call this idea

My friend has just got the new cps and I had a quick look and there where book covers(off old books) that had been decorate and then you use them I assume to hang on the wall as a work of art?

My idea

Get a piece of mountboard or thick cardboard (even the brown corrugated stuff)cover in handmade paper then decorate.

1. Wrap like a parcel and add Epherma ie tickets stamps flowers.
(Will do a sample asap)
2. I thought instead of a book say 6 pages could be decorated on a theme then tied together like a parcel.
3. Pages could be made then made into a book.
4. If you have a nice cover where it comes away intact you could make loose pages decorate the cover and put loose pages inside then tie as a parcel.

Hope I am making sense I come up with loads of ideas and sometimes need imput as what people think.

I was making some meandering books today and then wanted to do some simple decos so I just stuck 5 squares in a cross I was then able to cover all of one side with a 12x12 and hope to post it around to be filled.
I got box of squares of card from the paper shop for £2 it is meant to be a note block but they are just the right size to save cutting all the squares :)
When I send the deco I will include spare pages so they can be decorated and then stuck in to make it easier incase they are to be stamped.

Will put a photo tomorrow :)

Had a great new idea for cd wallets I managed to get white ones 50 for £1.50 ? $3
But you could use the free ones that come with the cds.

Stick 4 together similar to how I did my meandering book with something like duck tape that wont rip.
You could do 6 so it will fold like a tag book.

Options covereach side with paper but on each edge put ribbon under the paper to have a tie at each edge.

I will try and get a sample as soon as I can too tired today on nights and off to work again sson

If you can get the plain white one I plan to stamp on mine.

You will have pockets at the top of each so I thought to fill these with altered cds tags mini books etc

While I was in the computer shop I noticed they had small black cd cases.
I thought maybe do an altered cd and decorate the box to match the small ones are square but you could do the same with the rectangle ones :)

That is great another idea for what you showed me on Saturday Really Fab.

I know you said you would get me some cd covers, well its my DDs birthday on monday and i would like to make her one of these Albums , so I wondered do you know where others are getting them from , maybe mail order.

Also i bought some Cork coasters but i wondered what they do with them,i do not have alcohol inks or any special inks .

Take a sheet of 12x12 thin card is good
Fold in half then fold in half again so you have 4 squares then fold back each side to edge so it is concertined you will see if you look at folded picture.

You will have 4 creases options I did
I cut one top to crease cut off approx half and then cut a circle out.

on 2 nd and 4 th pieces I cut across to make tag pockets.

on the one in the middle I just snipped with circle punch to make a half circle.

You can do whatever you like in what order you like and make tags or attcs for pockets.

Please ask if you dont understand:)

LME
03-05-2006, 10:48 AM
Caz you only have to stick together in the pattern above:)

I left a slight gap between each card as it makes it easier to fold.
You can decorate anyway you like as the point of it is meandering means you look at it from all different angles so your pages can be decorate at different angles:)

The top left back is the front of your book and the back of the last one is the back if you want you can add ribbon to close the book and it is best to this with it folded so you can get the ribbon to meet then you would cover the whole square with paper so the ribbon would be hidden:)

Not got a picture yet but will do asap:wub:

atc booklet
try to use thin card and paper so it will still fit in wallet:)
Cut 2 cards 2 and a half x 3 and a half if needed leave a bit of an edge so it can be shaved a bit.
Cut a piece of card 10 x 3 and a half but again depending on thickness maybe take a small bit of the whold of the outside before decorating and folding in 4.
You can decorate back and front or just front as this will be what is seen in wallet.
I made one as a present and put a verse inside but let your imagination go and see what you come up with.

I am doing an artist swap so I am decorating the front with a picture of the artist and putting info about them inside.

Fold the 10x 3and a half in 4 and stick inside the 2 pieces of 2 and a half x 3and a half.

Ideas

You could stamp on the large piece or use handmade paper chinese paper etc depending on your theme and you dont need to but you could tie a bow around or just slip into wallet.

Please ask if you dont understand and I will do a sample asap:)

I was experimenting with envelopes today :)

I have the square template but you can use any envelope take it apart and use it as a template.

I decorated both sides then made a book the same size as the middle like a concertina.
Stick the bottom page to the inside of the envelope so it can be pulled out to view.
Dont stick the envelope just leave the flaps loose and fasten with circles and string or ribbon.

If you attach it to a lo ie a small envelope would look good put the ribbon between the 12x12 and tie closed on the top :)

The loose flaps will close over it.

Does that help?

A lot of the t-shirts in the shops are just plain ones with flowers added and then the price is doubled:rolleyes:

Get a plain t-shirt and decorate or make a broach to add to it.

The ones I saw had a crochet flower with a material flower then beads to make the centre and a few pieces of lace falling from the back.

Material flowers could be could from the sissix in leather or fabric attatched to bonda web then beads added:)

Hi Patty I can find any instructions so I will try and explain:)

Fold A5 card like a gate fold card but have an extra crease centre back too.
then open it up and divide the height into 3 and just on the centre 2 rectangles cut 2 lines from left to right with a craft knife only at one third and 2 thirds of the height.
Cut a piece of A6 in half length ways but just trim a slight amount off so they slip in easily.
You slip one one the left over under over and one on the right under over under.
I hope this makes sense when you try it:)

To get the middle hidden bit you fold the card in 4 so it is concertinered and pull gently in the centre.

Hi sorry not put any ideas on here for ages:huh:

I had an idea to ask for a swap buddy:wub:

Is anyone interested in swapping small items or ideas say once a month.
I am a bit hyperactive and would love to swap things ie cards atcs later maybe pages.
To start maybe say a card which would be a first class stamp later maybe get one of the new A4 boxes that cost 84p for 100g and £1.09 for 250g:)

I find it easier to swap 1 to 1 as I always get in trouble for being too quick and impatient in larger swaps.
I like to do asap:(

Sorry not posted for ages I must make a new years resolution to get going again:)

With everyone making explosion boxes I got an idea from a box of mars bars I got from christmas:)

If you mark a 12 x 12 into 9 squares but instead of cutting out the 4 corner squares you just score them in half the whole sheet goes into a box bottom to make the top you would have make a pattern so the lid was just bigger than 4x4 so it would slip over ie add an inch to just over 4 inches each side and use tape to stick the lid sides to each other.

I just thought this would be an alternative so you would end up with a 12 x 12 lo in a box?
ie just have photos on the flat pieces :)
