Mandy are you still doing the "bring a friend for their first crop & get a £10 voucher"?

scrapJ
14-12-2005, 06:37 PM
Indigoniki, I'm bringing my daughter Molly who is 12.

Hils
14-12-2005, 07:28 PM
Hoping I can make it - can't see a problem but need to check with DH, and after the Visa bill thing this week think I'd better wait till after Christmas (when he'll be more mellow and chilled out ;) )before mentioning it! Perhaps you could pencil me in Mandy and I can confirm in Jan? :D

Boo
14-12-2005, 07:46 PM
I'm sure I'll be able to manage it Mandy (if you will have me)?

I didn't see a school, am I blind? I saw a pub and a church hall place ... was it further down the hill by the hall going back towards the motorway?

scrapJ
14-12-2005, 07:52 PM
Hi Boo, not the church hall direction the opposite way, still on Quakers road, I don't think I'm making much sense! :)
If you were driving along & passed the hall on the right then the pub also on the right, you keep going, ( go passed Mandys shop on the left) & then there is the Infant school on the right & their car park then the Junior school which is where the crop is going to be. Directions are not my strong point as you have probably noticed!! :) J

scrapJ
14-12-2005, 07:53 PM
Hils you have to come! :)

Boo
14-12-2005, 08:15 PM
Think I got that Julia.  So keep on past Mandy's shop which will be on my left and the Junior School will be on my right up the road a bit?

scrapJ
14-12-2005, 09:20 PM
yes! :) It's only really across the road & along a bit from the shop. J:)

scrapJ
14-12-2005, 09:47 PM
I think Mandy's going to have a drop in crop in the christmas week sometime, maybe the 28th Dec ?
Is that right Mandy? :)

Hils
15-12-2005, 10:55 AM
Oooo - hope she does, tho if its on the 28th I won't be able to make it cos mu Mum and Dad will be visiting.... 30th would be good tho!

Modern Scrapper
15-12-2005, 11:47 AM
Hi Folks,

Okay, I've pencilled in Thursday 29th Dec. as the date for the *mini* crop at the shop - is that a good date for most people? Let me know if you are interested as places for this one are limited to 10 - a nice cosy get-together :D

As for the Sat. 28th Jan 2006 crop, I've reserved places for peeps on this forum: Julia, Molly, Hils, Boo, Nikki & daughter....so far. I've already booked some of our Downend regulars in as well but still plenty of spaces as the hall is pretty big!

I have introduced a new offer which applies to both crops and Thursday night classes - "bring a new friend and you get a £10 shop gift voucher" So if you're coming alone, why not ask a friend or work colleague if they fancy a great day out, and you'll have an extra £10 to spend in the shop! Talk about an offer a scrapper can't refuse

Hi girls! I'll have to check with Rob to see if he's at home that day to look after the kids, but I'd love to come! :)

Modern Scrapper
16-12-2005, 12:55 PM
We've also got Clare coming all the way from Bedford for the January crop! Well, she's not just coming to the crop, her pal Christine lives in Bristol and is coming too :D Hello girls, if you're on here!

As for the mini crop on 29th - anyone else up for it?

Mandy

Hils
16-12-2005, 02:34 PM
What time is the mini crop running from and for how long please Mandy? :)

scrapJ
16-12-2005, 06:10 PM
Hi all! So, who is coming to the mini crop on 29th then?
What time will it be Mandy?

scrapJ
16-12-2005, 06:27 PM
Mandy, perhaps you could give a prize to the person who has travelled the furthest to the crop? :)

scrapJ
17-12-2005, 01:08 PM
Sorry you can't make it in January Nina, you'll be having a fab holiday tho!! And you get to check out all those fab scrapbooking stores too :)
The Thurs class with Emy was great wasn't it, I'm going to teach the kids how to make the concertina style book. Julia :)

Nina I am trying very very hard not to be jealous but its just not quite working at the moment! I'm sure my face has gone a very fetching shade of green.... Hope you have a lovely time tho - and I shall look forward to seeing the scrapalicious (made-up word of the day!) delights you come up with when you get back!

scrapJ
17-12-2005, 05:01 PM
I'm trying to persuade my friend Steve to come to a class. He has made an scrapbook of his holiday for his sons for christmas so knows what it's all about.
I don't think there have been any men attend the classes before? Jack has been of course but he's only 10.!

Modern Scrapper

Hi Hils, The mini crop on 29th December will be from 10am onwards till about 4pm - does that sound ok? If anyone wants to stay longer than that they are most welcome - I only live down the road so not far for me to pop home when everyone has cropped out :D

Julia - Prizes for travelling the furthest, eh? Well, at least that will count you out seeing as you or one of your family members ALWAYS wins prizes at my crops!!!

I was thinking that maybe we can all bring a little bit of yummy xmas leftovers to eat. We always have a big wodge of xmas cake left over - It seems I'm the only one in our house that loves it!

ps. Nina, NO pressure or obligation  but I just can't wait to see those cards of yours! I've been dreaming of them since Thursday - just how many techniques/papers/embellishments can you inlcude on one card?

Mandy

Hils
19-12-2005, 10:23 AM
Hmmm - don't think I'll be able to make the mini crop on the 29th :( My parents are coming down - they leave on the 29th but I don't think it'd be very nice to chuck them out early just so I can come cropping! Ah well, there's always the one at the end of Jan :)

I've been offline for a few days but have just found out that dh has to work all next week which cancels out the Paperarts crop and will be away the weekend of Jan 28th so I can't come to Bristol either. A bit peed orf as I hadn't booked one of my own crops in for January as my other-cropping-half is having a baby. This was my time to go and crop myself. I'm all doom and gloom now.
Anyway do have a wonderful Christmas and take lots of photos (more doom and gloom, I just had to send my camera back to Nikon as the flash isn't working!)

Sorry guys, I just read that last post back and I sound like a right miserable so and so! Hope to make a Bristol crop at some time! Any dates for the next retreat yet Mandy? MIL is giving me cash towards it for Christmas even though she doesn't really 'get' scrapbooking :)

Have a WONDERFUL festive season everybody B) :) :P  :D B)

Niki

scrapJ
23-12-2005, 08:37 PM
Karen, you would be better off getting the train to Parkway station rather than Templemeads (Bristol), then it's about 2 or 3 miles to Downend, so about 15mins in a taxi I guess. It's a lovely crop to go to, friendly people & we have fun. Contact Mandy @ Modern Scrapbooking for more info. :) Julia

Black with pink go faster stripes! and Tuesday I hope :) Walked five miles today (to town to get the tracksuit, and back!)

scrapJ
31-12-2005, 06:26 PM
Good for you to do the walk! Did you feel better for it? We all went swimming this morning although didn't do many lengths, just a lot of messing about with the kids! We had the whole of the non lane bit of the main pool to ourselves! It was good to do something, we have all been very lazy these holidays!

Hils
31-12-2005, 06:38 PM
Better for it? Mmmmm - tired maybe! But yes, feeling quite perky again now - tomorrow, a short run!

Hils
31-12-2005, 07:28 PM

Hi Girls,

Well, the numbers for this month's crop so far.........28!! That is 28 folks confirmed and 6 possibles :D That's a pretty good turn out for the first one of 2006 don't ya think?!!

There will be 2 classes:

Class 1: A 12x12 layout using Basic Grey Vagabond Swiss Dots paper with matching cardstock and you will need 1 or 2 black & white photos. We are going to be doing photo tinting with alcohol inks and also making an embellishment using Junkitz acrylicz, alcohol inks, and rubber stamps.

Class 2: 12x12 layout with a love/romance theme - more on this one later :D

Alice will be demoing the Craft Robo and we also hope to have a Melt Pot demonstration....so plenty going on to keep us all busy!

Mandy

Hi Mandy,
I see you've posted the next retreat on the shop website. Is there a chat thread even though it's DD's 12th birthday and I can't go. ;) ;) What are the chances of the first one being on my twins birthday (but they were boys and 'not bothered') and the second one on my daughters - she is bothered! I did offer to take her but she didn't want to come. Said it would be full of strange ladies, she saw the dressing up in bin liners photos!!

Hi Everyone, just dropping in to say hello as I'll be at the crop on the 28th! I've been trying to catch up with the chat as I've been on holiday for the last few weeks (shhhh... don't tell anyone...I was stash shopping in the USA, among other things! ;) ) It's great to know that there will be so many friendly peeps to crop with. :D

PS Is there parking at the school or do we just take pot luck on the street?

they should be! I often read these crop threads with interest as I'd love to pop up the M4 one day for a MS crop - they are definitely sold well!

Hils
15-01-2006, 12:06 PM
Hi Giselle - that's great news! Looking forward to meeting you and hearing all about your stash shopping :D I don't think there is specific parking at the school, but there's plenty on the roads around it :)
Sarah, I'm with Nina, you really should pootle down the M4 to a crop and/or the retreat (the last retreat was such a laugh - oh yes and the scrapping was good too! ) It'd be great to meet you at last:)

Hi everyone, I've booked into the crop - it will be my first one! I met Julia in MS on Friday so I'll recognise one person at least!! :) I went in to find out what to bring ( and to buy some stuff of course!) - had visions of turning up with all my stuff and finding everyone else with a little carrier bag -- NOT TRUE I'm told  Looking forward to it very much - see you all there.

I can't do retreats :( because I work full time and so my weekends are the only time I get to spend full days with my family (especially my gorgeous 3 year old), and I wouldn't lose that for anything

But I do allow myself one crop a month - so no reason why it couldn't your one one day - nice to meet different people

Hi Sally, now you've found your second home - welcome :D

Update on classes for the 28th:

Class 1 - 11am. Technique based class. Layout requiring one 7x5 or 8x6 or or two smaller black and white photos. We will be photo tinting using Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks. Also for this layout you will be making a small acrylic embellishment that involves stamping and alcohol inks. Basic Grey Vagabond Swiss Dots paper with matching Bazzill cardstock.

Class 2 - 2pm. Romance/Love type layout using the NEW Junkitz Love Lines papers. You'll need 3 photos for this one - you and the love of your life, whoever or whatever that is!

We'll also have a go at making a heart shaped embellishment with the Melt Pot - that should be a laugh 'cos I'm still learning to use it - no but really, with Carroll's foolproof guidance I'm going to produce some real art with this one!

Hi Giselle - that's great news! Looking forward to meeting you and hearing all about your stash shopping :D It'd be great to meet you at last:)

Shhhh...the stash shopping isn't meant to be public knowledge...I spent far too much! However, my sweetie DH gave me a gift card for Christmas for a scrapping shop near our holiday home and then the shop gave me 20% off all my purchases - I was like a kid let loose in a sweet shop!!

I'm looking forward to meeting you too! And everyone else of course. :D

I don't know if you remember me but I came to your shop just before xmas, i go to the newport crop, myself and a group of friends wondered if you had about 6 places left for the crop we would love to come and join you. We've all got up to date passports for crossing the bridge. The classes sound fab. Please could you fit us in.

Niki, to do the quote all you have to do is press the quote "box" on the bottom right of the relevant post.
And to do bold, italics, etc, you have to click on reply (rather than quick reply) and use the font options above where you type :)

I usually bring tons of stuff to crops in my stanley box thingy but all you actually NEED is photos, a paper trimmer, adhesive and glue because when the shop is across the road you can get anything else there.
So should I take my own advice and just take the essentials or still take stanley, hmmmmm.....

There will be a fun quiz on the day & a prize for the winner!!! :):) julia

Hi girls, the times for the crop are 10am till 4pm

till 4? :(

the first post on this thread says till 5

if it really is till 4 then there isn't much point me driving over from Swindon :(

I can't leave here until 10:30am at the earliest (childcare) - so that means not getting there till 11:30 to noon

I was banking on being able to crop right up until 5 to make it worth the journey

Can anyone confirm for definite one way or the other?

Boo, Mandy has posted somewhere on this thread about the classes - one needs a B&W pic for tinting with alcohol inks, and one is a Valentine's LO and needs a 7x5 and either one pic about half that size or 2 smaller ones (the sizes aren't in the post but I have my spies who keep me informed ;) ) Plus there's a demo of a Meltpot - must resist..... :)

Hi Everyone :D

Here is an optimistic timeline for tomorrow!

10am Scrappers' stampede into gym hall to nab the best seats (near radiator!) and the fanciest choccy biccies :D Don't forget to pick up your free raffle ticket at the door!

10.30am Melt Pot demo - heart embellishments. Having now botched it several times, hopefully I'll get it right on the big day!

11am Class 1 - approx 1 hour. Book on arrival.

12pm Craft Robo Demo by Alice until around 3pm. If you'd like a word or shape cut out you can add your name to the list on arrival.

Lunch & Shopping Break

1.30pm Raffle winner drawn, followed by Class 2.

3pm Cropper's Quiz - I know the questions that Julia has devised and you can't swot for this one!

4pm Mad dash to complete layouts barely begun, gulp down remains of cold coffee, finish important conversation/debate with new croppin pals, toss all your cropping stash/tools randomly into the tote/trolley that you have spent the last week meticulously organising - then it's HI HO HI HO off to our homes we go............until next month, yeah

Yes, it was ther first Tim Holtz DVD An Altered Journey :) (His second one is out in a few weeks ;) ) And the stuff you use to put the inks on with is an applicator - you can buy them but you may prefer to make your own?? You just need a small block of wood/an old stamp. Stick some Velcro on it (the bit with the hooks). Then cut a bit of white felt to size, pop it on the velcro and that's your applicator made :) Replace the felt as and when you need to(usually each time you use the inks) :)

Aww thanks Gaye - and you didn't stop me from getting anything done. I reckon if you want to just scrap you can do that at home - I like going to crops so I can talk scrapping, pick up a few tips, and make new friends :) And if gives me the perfect excuse (not that I need one!) to have a good natter and catch up with Julia too :) So I was very pleased to be able to meet you and chat to you and circumcise your Hermie for you! ;)
Terri, yes, the DVD shows you how to make a tag book like the one Gaye was making, as well as lots of other things - shows you brushless watercolour (with stamps), distressing (like I showed you yesterday, but better ;) !), using alcohol inks to make a "polished stone" background and doing brayered embossing (this will be a fab way to get even more use from your QuickKutz :) ) You'll need a roll of foil tape for the brayered embossing - I've got a spare one if you want it but you'll have to be quick before someone else bags it! You can get them from B&Q and Maplins but a lot of people seem to be struggling to find it.... Cost is £5 and I can bring it to the next crop. Even if you don't buy the DVD I can show you what to do if you like? :) If you're not sure what it is take a look at my gallery, at the "Play" frame and LO and you'll get a better idea - TH does a much better job tho....
Plus there's loads of other stuff on the DVD as well - these are just my particular faves.
Hoping my ordered-several-months-ago new TH DVD comes quickly -might have managed to pick up some new technique to share with you at the next crop if it does :)
