Yep, Meadowhall doesn't shut til 10 and restaurants/foodcourt at 11, but it was the traffic getting out at 10 that was the killer. But at least I got most of my Christmas shopping done. :)

Hello all! Just logging in!

I love the idea that you buy a ball of wool and just by cuting it up it transforms into this magical thing called 'fibres'

I love the idea that you buy a ball of wool and just by cuting it up it transforms into this magical thing called 'fibres'

and it makes the price of them so much cheaper than buying cards of 'fibres' from the craft stores too

cw18
03-12-2005, 12:34 PM
OK all... well, seeing as it's almost Christmas (and I know these will probably be a 'late' Christmas pressie), you're going to be getting double quantities from me

Just got back from the local wool shop, and after much ooh-ing and aah-ing I got stuck between two colours of the same wool -- which she had in the window. It then transpired that they were in the window as they're on stock clearance -- at about 60% off!! So I bought both, and I'm going to send everyone 3m of each -- and it still works out cheaper than just 3m of the one which was my next choice :D

One is a mohair type cerise, and the other is mohair type royal blue. Each of them has thread 'tufts' in golden yellow, golden orange, royal blue, turquoise and red (each tuft has all these colours).

Got mine measured up and bundled tonight. DH helped, I let him be I.C. of counting and QC!!(well it made him feel useful ) The stamps, are they 3 x 2nd class or 1st class? I haven't a clue how much each are worth these days as they now just have 1st and 2nd on them. Also Ann can you pm me your addy, so that I can send them to you please, thanks.

cw18
04-12-2005, 10:55 PM
1st class is 30p, which is up to 60g. It's then 46p to 100g, 64p to 150g, 79p to 200g, and 94p to 250g.

2nd class is 21p, which is up to 60g. It's then 35p to 100g, 47p to 150g, 58p to 200g, and 71p to 250g.

So, in theory 3x1st would cover 200g 1st class or 250g 2nd class. 3x2nd would only cover 100g 1st class or 200g 2nd.

As it looks like I started something by declaring my intention to send 2 types (due to the fact I couldn't decide which to use, and they were in the sale anyway!) I plan to send at least the 3x1st class stamps.

mum2a16yrold
04-12-2005, 11:00 PM
Hopefully everyone had got my address now by pm, if you haven't please let me know.

If you put 3 first class stamps in, I will have them weighed and if they are not all needed I will send you the extra one back. Obviously if you stick them onto the envelope, I won't be able to send them back. :)

I've got a ball of red/vermillion Patons 'Whisper' and she also had a very sorry looking ball on sale with no label that was a spaced dyed silver/white/blue yellow.... once I manage to untangle it it will be lovely!

Both of them are knitted fancy yarns with loose strands

Liz, that will be absolutely fine. I will be there and believe it or not I am travelling light this time. (well that's the plan anyway) I haven't bought the kit this time so I am going to work on a paperbag book, for a christmas present I need to get done. So I am coming without all my usual luggage and just bringing the essentials, all bagged and boxed. :)

AliBlack
09-12-2005, 11:55 PM
Mine is multicoloured, too many colours to mention!! But mostly green/blue/pink. It will only be enough for a bit more than 2 metres per person, is that ok? If not I will need to wait 'til next week before I can afford another ball  totally skint this week

mum2a16yrold
10-12-2005, 12:17 AM
Ali, that is fine, it was 2 - 3 metres anyway. I am sure they are making them smaller.

Jasmine, I will look forward to receiving them. :)

LUCY C-T
10-12-2005, 10:39 AM
I agree with them making them smaller Ann. I think they're sneeky, I mean how many people other than us would actually measure to see if we've got the correct length! Is there a rule of thumb re weight to length ratio, because I've found that some of them have a weight on and some have length?

cw18
10-12-2005, 01:24 PM
mine went in the post this morning -- my first chance this week to get to a PO !!!!

Lucy -- I find a lot have both, but you often have to squint to find the length. Some of my current ones have the length under the knitting needles or crotchet hook logos -- but I know on a couple I had earlier this year I actually had to fold back the join on the band to find it. However, on inspecting my recent purchases I've found hardly any from the 'bargain bin' have the length.... but these are 'odd ball' clearance items, so I can't help wondering if adding the length is something new for a lot of manufacturers?

Hi Ann, i will be sending mine beginning of next week hopefully, just need to get them all bagged up or could i send them wound up on those cardboard embroidery spools? Let me know, the wool is light blue with all different coloured bobbly bits on it, i may send a bonus metre of some pink/purple fibres i have too. This is turning into a long message but i have also noticed i am on the list twice, no.6 & 18!!! Thanks Jenny

Cheryl, my postie didn't redeliver and I haven't been able to get to theSO, I tried ringing to have it redelivered but kept getting cut off, so I am going in the morning after dropping DS off at school. I will let you know soon as I have them in my grasp. :)

Ali, 1.5m of each is fine, lots of people have done that. :)

Hi

Went today to get another ball of my jade glittery yarn and they've stopped stocking it. Am heartbroken, there were some lovely colours and I was clutching my pennies to buy some of each.. Luckily there was one ball of sapphire left so will send 1.5m of each. Hope to post tomorroe but will let you know if not.

Postman has just delivered a pile of parcels and although I was in he has pushed them through the letterbox along with a card for a recorded delivery one, saying sorry you were out. So now I have to make a 16 mile round trip to the SO on Friday. Just so that I have an idea what it is, has anyone sent me fibres recorded delivery, that I haven't revceived yet, or could it be my Christmas Present from DH.

Received from Sambelina, dancingfrog, CathK and kelley Coulson. Thanks, ladies and big thanks for the little extras. :)

Hiya... just cutting and wrapping my fibres... just wanted to check, was going to send 1.5 yards of a bobbly fibre called 'spalsh' that is shades of tan, brown and pale blue and 2 yards of a plainer fibre called 'symphony' that is kinda rough and shaded pretty tans/sage greens/pinks and greys (quite neutral looking so should be useful... ) but the symphony is not fringed or blobby, but fairly plain .. is that OK?
(I had also bought a fringed one called whisper but it sounds the same as the one kelly coulson has sent..)

oh cool, Ann - will carry on wrapping them then, thought I'd better stop till I got an answer - as it takes ages to do 3m on each card (as its a plainer fibre, thought I'd do extra of it...seemed a good idea until I started wrapping! LOL!)

Ann - if you spend a little time weighing the parcels & plonking the postage on before you go to the post office, just hand the big bag of packages to the woman/man behind the counter and tell them the all have the stamps on. It's much easier than trying to put them individually in the post box, or getting them to check every one.

Looking forward to getting them all!:D

Well, what a weekend, sorry ladies I was at a First Aid course alll day Saturday and out Saturday night, DH was ill Sunday with a migraine, so didn't manage to get anything done until Sunday night, when he finally gave up moaning and went to bed , then to top it all I was delivered a child with a raging temperature and full of cold yesterday so I couldn't get out to the PO, anyway enough moaning, they are all packed in a large bag and will be on their way to the PO in about half an hour. I will try and get you all rated within the next couple of days.

Could you please post on here and let me know when you receive your fibres and I will update the first post, I hope you enjoy using them. Thank you to everyone for taking part in my first swap. :)

Boring, boring, boring, Sarah, and I have to go again on Saturday. ***YAWN*** I have done it so many times now and apart from the recovery position nothing ever changes, the man who was taking it was huge, sweaty and didn't stand still for two minutes and he had a story to go with every single topic which makes me realise why the course has to run for 2 sessions of 7 hours. If he didn't talk so much we could have had it finished by lunchtime.

Anyway ladies your fibres are now in the loving careful and caring hands of the RM

 Ann - I know the feeling its such a waste of time. I don't know why we can't do a shorter refresher course. Mine was 5 weeks of 2 1/2 hours and as you say it was only the recovery position that had changed
