View Full Version : Advice needed for new CJ'er
Hi everyone,
Could you please let me know what the best kind of journal is for my first CJ.
I have read about pink pigs, and making my own... any ideas?
Thanks,
Deb

Sarabooks are nice and easy
Hallo, DebU
I'm new to scrapbooking and even newer to CJ-ing ..... and have joined my first CJ swap. I've made my journal. How? I took two pieces of mountboard and luckily they were both the same size so now chopping required! I've used some paper to stick onto the front cover and inside front cover. I'ce cut white thin card to make the pages - mneasured to a size slightly smaller than the overs. I've used book rings (from Staples) to hold the journal together (3 rings in this case). The tricky bit was making holes in the mountboard. I don't know what others have done but I used a phillips screwdriver to bore holes into the cover - laid the covers on the floor for this delicate operation! I found that while this worked, it did rather scuff the area around the holes. So I cut a strip of contrasting paper and stuck it over the left hand side of the cover - having punched holes for the book rings in the right place first! This makes it all look much tidier.
All I need to do know is do my own two-page spread - that's the really scary bit!
Good luck with yours

Deb - you can use anything you like really although albums are quite expensive to post. I usually make my own from mount board, card and book rings and find these the best but I have also seen gatefold books, paper bag books and just ordinary bought books such as the pink pigs or watercolour albums.
Did you see the two I had at the crop on Saturday?? they were both like pink pig albums.
If you need anymore help give me a shout - as you can see from my signature I like CJ's!!

I'll watch this thread with interest as I have some pages for a cj to make and am wondering how it all goes together, saw a beautiful one last weekend from someone here and am now really worrying that I am going to get it right!!

I personally like making my own, or using an album and just sending the page protectors tied together with ribbon. I've used a SEI preservation album for one as they are reasonable and you can embellish the front easily.

Oooh that reminds me that I saw an album that was SEI page protectors held together with bookrings and the cover was two pieces of funky foam joined together in one long piece which was folded all around the book and closed using button snaps and string - it looked really effective and was cheap to post.
Thanks everyone.... I now have some good ideas....x
