Hi Sharon and Gaye.
Yup, have thawed out a bit now. Took dd1 to nursery and went to pay newspaper bill, post some letters and get some bits from the fruit and veg van. By the time we got home dd2 and I were freezing! Coffee and central heating help a lot! Shame we have to go out later to collect her again!

I was wondering how many of us with similar star signs , scrap in a similar way?????

I'll have to go look at some galleries later in the week .....

I'm not really in to star signs ... but everyone always tells me I'm a typical Capricorn!!

julieann
01-12-2005, 11:39 PM
Bev I alway's wondered what is a typical Capricorn!!! One of the girls at work is a capricorn and a bit younger than me she keeps saying I'll be like you in a few years. Should I take that as a compliment?

bevvie
01-12-2005, 11:42 PM
Julieann

I would ... even if only to make yourself feel better

I'm actually not sure what a typical Capricorn is... I only know they are supposed to be ambitious!!! ....No-one seems to tell me what the negative qualities are LOL ... maybe I only have those!!!

Bev

julieann

Bev Negative qualities no of course not lol. I was ambitious once does that count? I guess I'm not a typical Capricorn then. I've just looked up Capricorn on google and came across Skyscript uk an interesting read if not a little long winded. I'm a terrible speller and bad at english unlike a capricorn. I'm also shy.

Having just read the capricorn traits .... I am a little disturbed that people think Iam a typical capricorn .... maybe a little ambitious (not so much now!!) definitely humourous ....and definitely pessimistic ..... but not much of anything else ... maybe people don't know the the REAL me

julieann
02-12-2005, 12:03 AM
So do you think that typical capricorns don't exsist? I mean we're just individual people who may have some unusual quirks! lol

bevvie
02-12-2005, 10:36 AM
Ermmmm I'm not sure .... Ive never really been into star signs and everything .... but my friends bday is 18 Oct and mine is 6 Jan .... When we used to go ice hockey we met 2 lads whose bdays were 16 Oct and 4 Jan ... it was quite spooky as the 2 in oct were so alike and us 2 in January were very alike ..... so much so that we were always arguing ... although we were good friends (if that makes sense!!) Funnily aswell My friend went onto to marry the guy Jan guy .... and I always joked with her that it must have been like marrying me... her best friend!! (it didn't last though .... so maybe there is a moral there somewhere!!!)

How many others of you show typical capricorn or aquarius (oh and piceas for end of Feb) traits??

helenpp
02-12-2005, 10:48 PM
Think I am fairly typical but must be a trait to lose the ambitious streak! I am a bit on the pessimistic side too!
Hey ho - hope we can have a sucessful swap as some disappointed peeps about in the advent but I for one am a happy bunny!

Suggest we revist our likes and dislikes girls just in case!!!

when are we swapping out?

hugs all!

julieann
02-12-2005, 11:51 PM
Helen I'm now feeling v. paranoid hadn't realized about unhappy bunny's in the advent swap. Now I'm panicking. I'm terrible at buying presents (perhaps I shouldn't tell you guys that!) very undecided as I desperatly want to get the right thing. I wonder if that's a trait? Well it might be!

bevvie
03-12-2005, 12:28 AM
Oh thats a shame .... I don't think they should have been quite so vocal on the thread though .... as that is really going to hurt some peoples feelings, who may have thought that their present was fine!!

I didn't join in ... but a friend on here did and she is loving her pressies aswell... I am doing the christmas pressie swap ... I also worry like you Ann that what I do won't bee good enough ... but I am sure we can check of we are unsure if some one will or won't like what they get ... I def don't like pink and lacey ... but other then that I'm fine .... actually I am just going to update my likes/dislikes ... if i can remember how to find it lol.... as i have not yet seen anything in All my Memories that havn't liked .... I absolutely love everything!!

Trixiebell
03-12-2005, 10:23 AM
morning all:D

thats a shame, i would be happy with any pressie cos i dont get crafty pressies from my family unless i go and get it myself and give it to them to rap up! not quiet the same!! surely it is part of the fun, just to join in! and considering you dont really know the people and you have only the likes and dislike to go on, cant be easy. i too am not that good at buying pressies so i am now concerned that what i get will be inadequat!

pmk
03-12-2005, 12:55 PM
Hi everyone, I hadn't realised that people were unhappy in the christmas swap. I wasn't in that one, I did the goody bag swap. I'm pleased with what I;ve looked at so far but I'm realkly having to work hard to resist the temptation to look inside the parcel that;s wrapped up!!
I think it's a good plan to update your likes and dislikes thread, or if you don't have one (like me!) to make a list and then let us know on here what page it's on. That way hopefully noone will be unhappy! Hope that's ok.... if you'd rather post your liks/dislikes on here then feel free!

Re getting the "right" thing - very difficult if you don't know someone. Didn't know people were unhappy with their advent stuff but it does look like a lot of people went over the budget - I suppose if you were one of the ones who'd done that and then you got stuff that was strictly within budget you might feel disappointed???
Anyway - what I was going to say before I started waffling on  was that it might be a good idea to look at the recent gallery pix for the person you are buying for cos then you'll have a good idea of their style too - might make it a little bit easier :)

julieann
04-12-2005, 08:24 PM
I have got an idea of something i'd like to do which I will add on my like's. I haven't got anything in my gallery (toooo shy).

At work each year we do secret santa (but we all find out who's got who!) this year I thought I'd be cheeky enough to write a little letter to Santa to help him with his shopping. My boss got me & he's buying me some Lush!!!!! Anyway because who i'm buying for know's i asked what she wanted that way she wont be dissappointed.
( although i've got some other little bit's to surprise her with). I've probally waffled on.
sorry

One thing we need to think about for the swap is the value of the pressie. ANy thought?

bevvie
05-12-2005, 06:15 PM
Oh I thought it had already been set at between £5 to £10.... mind you I suppose that is a rather wide bracket now I think about it LOL!!!

If anyone is like me ... if the budget is £5 I am bound to go over it but if its £10 I am less likely to........ I am not sure how others feel???

You can't get much with a fiver these days, specially if you don't want to traipse to the post office with a pizza box ;) We could meet half way and say £7.50?? I don't mind going up to a tenner, but thought just after Christmas some people might be a bit pushed for cash....

Hi Girlies - just signed up :D I'm happy to go up to £10. Going off to update my likes/dislikes now - I'll add it to my siggy when I've done it.

Just to give you an idea, an empty PB weighs 125g which on RM 1st class adds 64p to your postage costs. And remeber - paper and card may be a cheap option price wise, but it does get quite weighty once you add a few sheets together. HTH!

Gone a bit quiet, is every one christmas shopping?

Mrs Mac
09-12-2005, 02:22 PM
Hello lucy, i'm not shopping, done it all, if I can find a cholcate fountain at a good price I might add that to the list.
I am at "work" and between opening new boxed of stash, I am doing my cards.

Not getting on to fast, did yeaterday, put one up on the computer printed it off, changed the name, printed off........
Got a few done that way, starting with the most important ones and those who are left will have to have shop cards.

What about you?

LUCY C-T
09-12-2005, 03:43 PM
Got all my shopping done too. I'm supposed to be making xmas cards but have had scrappers block until yesterday, then I had to order a punch, in order to make the cards, so I'm waiting for that to arrive, but the post is really slow at the mo so I don't expect anything until the middle of next week. Hope it's not too late. I find it really hard to go and buy cards, I feel that I've set a presedence that I've got to uphold.

I've just read an bit in a mag about chocolate fountains, they can cost over £600 to hire, but it said that Argos were selling them for £49.99. Still seems pricey for something that you might only use a few times! Although I love melted chocolate, but I melt it over a pan of boiling water, yummy!

Hils
09-12-2005, 03:56 PM
Mmmmm melted chocolate
I've done all my Christmas shopping too - soooo glad cos town is so crowded now. Just need to wrap it all ;)

LUCY C-T
09-12-2005, 04:11 PM
I spend far too much effort and time wrapping my pressies, that I get really frustrated when someone rips off the paper and screws it into a ball within 2 seconds! The only person in our house who's 'allowed' to do that, is our 17month daughter!

theresa b

I think I've completed my shopping and I too need to wrap them. As for Christmas cards this year I've brought them. I've had no time to start on them. I'm in the process of making Stocking's for my Mum and Sister to take with them at Christmas, they don't know yet that they are getting them! I posted one off to Switzerland yesterday full of Chesse & onion and salt & vinegar crisps!

Hello girlies, I think Pauline has her hands full working this swap list out!
Not to mention baking a cake for us all.......
So what have you all got planned for your birthdays then?
Cheryl is off to a weekend retreat, great pressie, but I think she might have given that to herself, that one way to get what your want.

cw18
14-12-2005, 11:43 PM
Yep -- I'm paying for the retreat myself. But as I've not had a night away from the family in over 8 years I felt I deserved it. And a friend who lives in the NE is getting a train to Manchester so she can come too, and will then stay at ours on the Sunday night before going home on the Monday. So it should be one of my better birthdays I hope

And hubby gets his breaks (and spends his dosh!) when goes to see Chelsea play at home several times a year, staying overnight for a couple of the matches (we're in Manchester, so when he does it in a day -- like last weekend - he's out by 6am on the Saturday and home around 2am on the Sunday!)

Trixiebell

morning all :D

what a lovely pressie to yourself, cheryl. i would like to go on a retreat i think the closest one to me is Bristol dont know when they are on or how to find out about them

have you guys been on a few retreats?

cw18
15-12-2005, 09:55 AM
My first, and I heard about it as I've subscibed to the Canny Crafts newsletter -- I buy quite a bit of stash from their on-line shop.

It's not exactly local to me -- several hours drive each way -- but close enough to get home in an emergency, whilst being far enough to mean I have to have 2 nights away from home in order to attend

I would imagine that the sponsors on here advertise in their sections when they launch one, but not been a member long enough to say I've noticed any.....

Mrs Mac
15-12-2005, 12:43 PM
Good for you Cheryl, one way to get exactly what you want is to get it yourself. I took that line years ago, and I will go as far as taking different holidays for DH.!
He goes ski ing and I go to craft fairs. Even thought about going to the one in Las Vegas as its my 40th birthday, but changes my mind , its so far to go fromt he kids x 4, and a lot to ask my mother to stay over while I am away, as she is already booked for Feb while I go to Brimingham to do some classes, maybe one with Tim.......

If you want somthing, buy it yourself and use the excuse that its for your birthday

Cherly, whos your friend from the NE? do we know her as I am in 2 scottish cjs

cw18
15-12-2005, 02:00 PM
Doubt it, as she's a cardmaker (and relatively new to that!). I know her from another forum, and we met up in Harrogate a couple of months ago (at the show they had there). There are actually 6 of us (I think!?) going as a group from the other site, and we have asked for rooms and crafting stations together as very few of us have met the others before (I've met 2 who will now both be travelling with me).

But I get the impression there are several people from on here going too -- so I could be flitting between groups.

To be honest I'm booked on the retreat as a card maker rather than a scrapbooker, but have booked one scrapping class specifically to try and get started with my albums -- totally no confidence to 'go for it' at the moment.

When you do scrap booking you have enought bits left over to do your cards for free!

It's a bit scarey you being almost 40 and a Granny..........by the time I get the youngest into the Academy I might to be in that positiion.

What else is planned for your big birthday.?

I know what you mean about getting stash. DH said the other week that I won't be getting any Christmas or Birthday presents from now on - cos he can't buy me anything I haven't already got lurking in the shed LOL. Plus I'm a consultant for a certain cosmetics & jewellery company, so he can't get me that either. Well - I don't see anything in the handbooks to say that wives are supposed to make their Husband's lives easy :D :P

Hi everyone, please DON'T PANIC!! I have only been on line a couple of times over the [ast few days and only then to check up on the cj I was hosting which has 2 missing journals. Life has been really hectic but now thankfully is a bit calmer cos the Sunday School nativity play (which I was organising) is done and dusted! Life in the Manse is always chaos but more so at Christmas.

Theresa b - I'll deliberately not give you an early one so don't worry you'll have plenty of time to shop!

Need to go just now and put on more washing - I've just got my machine fixed after 2 weeks of it being broken (and leaking from the utility room into the living room...aaaargh) so I'm overflowing in grotty clothes! Will be sorting out the swap tonight so if I don't post again I will be back in the and everyone will get a pm.

Sorry for causing probs,
Pauline

pmk
19-12-2005, 10:34 PM
Hi joanne, don't worry, I'll match you with a February birthday. As for the gifts, people have been posting on the likes ad dislikes thread which will probably have mostly scrap related likes, but some also put on other things like fav choccie or smellies. Best idea is to check out your swappees likes once you have their details then you can decide! Hope that helps!

Hi everyone,
pms are all sent so check your box for the required info! I think I've gone cross-eyed sorting it all out but at least it is done! Here's some more details about postage etc...

WHAT SHOULD I SEND??
Most gifts are scrapping related, some hand made items, sometimes if the birthday girl has mentioned a particular chocolate, scent, body product then these things can be included too. The choice is yours and the only thing you have to do is make sure you look into their likes/dislikes and try to send accordingly. If you dont have a likes and dislikes entry, help out your partner and pop a post on this thread with your particular tastes.

POSTING
Please use any of Royal mails services you are most happy with BUT minimum posting requirements are first class with a proof of posting. If a parcel should go missing, claims can be made with a POP and a replacement then sent.

PACKAGING
If you send 12x12 paper/card, please make sure its placed in a baggie and in a non-bendable envelope (board backed) or pizza box. Also.. if you send something wet/sticky (Bubblebath, perfume, jam, etc) make sure you put it securely inside its own polythene bag... just to save any accidents...

SECRET SENDERS!
Keep an eye on the thread for your partner posting to say she has received her gift, if theres no word for several days longer than you feel is time, then PM me and I'll chase it up and see if its arrived.

Hope this helps with any extra queries, but feel free to pm me if you've any other probs/qs etc!

Ooops! Could be me!!

Tried to be more specific, but found it rather hard. So what I have done is give an idea on the subjects I want to scrap.... I've also included links to the cards I've made over the last 11 months, so hopefully these may give some hints too.

At the moment I just seem to be collecting stash, but I'm far to scared to actually start cutting and sticking it all  I'm hoping that if I manage to start getting to the Chorley crops next month this will give me a kick start, along with the Canny Crafts weekend as I have a 'combining patterned papers' class lined up while I'm there.

wish I could expect brilliant pressies like that for my birthday in 19 days time -- but no such luck!

my parents rang hubby last night about arranging a birthday get-together, but I've already told him I do NOT want to go out for a meal on my birthday. He sulked a bit, but as I'm on a retreat from Friday to Sunday, I'm sure I'll have eaten more than enough to not enjoy a meal out on Monday. Plus I'm back in work on the Tuesday, so don't want a late night after a weekend away!

My daughter (bless her) had suggested to my parents that as I'm away that weekend it might be better to do something the following Saturday -- shows she listens sometimes as I mentioned the 'row' about it when I went over to drop some stuff off at hers on Saturday

So, seeing as daughter and parents have both suggested the following weekend, hubby has now backed down :D But we can't agree where we fancy going........

Hi all,

Hope everyone who has already had a birthday had a great time :D I made a good start to the New Year by waking up with a chest infection on Sunday  Got to see a doctor on Monday afternoon and am now on antibiotics but back at work two days late and now have loads to catch up on although I'm still not quite 100%, so don't come too close

I have spent most of the day in bed i pain and keep getting hot sweats ... but my boss doesn't appear to have much compassion as soon as he knew I was up he was passing me work to do!!!! how nice of him!! (I wrok from home in case no one knows and was wondering why that may have sounded bizarre) I have ny sister and her partner coming to stay tomorrow and they are going to take some piccies of my dog for me .... Thanks Theresa and a huge thank you to craftymama uk for my gorgeous card and present. I was really good yesterday and didn't even open the outside envelope. This morning revealed a beautiful hand made card, a Studio K accordian kit with absolutely loads of things in it including two alphabets, accordian book and papers, some word Grand adhesions, tags and a tin to decorate! Also in the parcel was a bag of fibres and ribbons, which I love, all wrapped in hand made paper (which I have saved to use). Thankyou so much, I am thrilled with it all!

Hi to everyone,

Sorry I havent been joining in on this thread much - I have moved house just a month ago & life has been pretty hectic!

I have been asked to post my likes & dislikes to help my swappee - I hope it is OK to post them here: I like just about anything really, have 1 son no daughters so don't get to do many girly LO's & at the moment I am particularly "into" all sorts of alphabet embellishments and charms. I also love American Crafts Ribbons - I have the blue pack & the green pack but really want to get some of the other colours. I have recently added quite a lot to my paper collection so don't really need any more 12x12 paper at the moment but a girl can never have too many embellishments can she ?!

Hope this is of some help to someone ;) I am really looking forward to a nice surprise next month.
