when i use 300dpi and a 8x8 page it only obviously because of space shows you a proportion of your page onscreen , what is the best way to approach making an overall background i cant fill just that small area and forget the rest, so how do i keep everything in proportion and yet fill the whole 8x8 page and get a seamless background if the pattern i use from the palette only measures 2x2, hope i am making some sense.
thank in advance

Hmmmm, well when you open your 8x8 page and choose to fill with a pattern there should be something that indicates scale. If your chosen pattern is only 2x2 then you'd have to make it 400% bigger to get 8x8. Does that help?

Let me ponder that overnight, when I've had less wine and maybe I'll think of something!

I'm not sure I understand your question here but in PSP9 along the top of your new document there is a blue band - this lets you see what percentage of the document size you are viewing and the file name if you have given it one. At 30% mine almost fills the workspace but I always have my rulers (inches not cm for me) on view on a layout, so although the documents is being viewed at 30% it still shows the 12 x 12 page in proportion when you add anything IYKWIM?

So if you have an 8 x 8 page and scroll your mouse wheel until you see Image @ 30% and have your rulers set to view - what you are seeing is your WHOLE 8 x 8 page but at 30%, as against just seeing a portion (30% of the actual page size). Anything you add should look in proportion to the view you are seeing.

If I have misunderstood your question, then just ignore me!! Equally so if I am not making any sense to you!

i could not work out if it showed 30% how was i going to place everything let alone make a background paper and know it would fill the 8x8 page now i know and i will surely use the rulers too, and you answered what so badly i was trying to ask. now do i just make element and pictures 100% and drag into the 30% picture and it sorts itsself out , am i thinking on right track here.

Most papers and elements are created at 300 dpi and are 12 " x 12". This equates to 3600 pixels x 3600 pixels. 8 x 8 @ 300 dpi will be 2400 pixels.

If you open a 12 x 12 document and then copy and paste your background paper into it it will fit just right, therefore if you are only creating at 8 x 8 you will need to resize it to make it fit.

I make my pages 12 x 12 @ 200 dpi (I am happy with the quality and don't need to create at 300 dpi - takes too much time to process even with a new computer!).

There are several ways you can do this - once you have pasted your background into your page, right click on one of the corner handles(deform tool) and it will resize as you drag and keep the perspective correct without skewing etc.

You can individually use the resize menu to change your background to 8 x 8, then copy/paste OR

If you will always be creating at 8 x 8 and 300 dpi, then make a script to resize all your backgrounds to this size but remember and save to a CD the original zip file (at 12 x 12 & 300 dpi) so that in future you still have any kits which you have downloaded/bought in their original state.

You will be able to use the deform tool to resize any elements until they look as though they are sized right.

Hope this answers your question.
