Tina, just hoping he will sleep well tonight!! I've updated the first post with your theme. I really like all the themes already chosen.

I suppose I should think of one too! I was going to go with something to do with New Year Resolutions, but thought again as we won't be finishing until the summer so it won't be that topical.

I'm struggling a bit with my theme! Was thinking of recipes.... just finished a recipe one in my team and it's great. I'd prefer something practical.. you know, something I can use, so maybe I'll have another recipe one.
Yep... decided... mine's VEGITARIAN RECIPES if that's ok Kathryn.

It must be that time of year - I was up with my eldest - 9 as he had a heavy cold, and everytime he lay down started coughing, then my youngest - 2, decided that 5.50 is a great time to demand breakfast!

Still working on my theme!!

Up to 15 bods now, so hopefully we can get enough to make 2 groups. I have put on my theme. The Everyday Things. Those things that are not out of the ordinary but are really special to us.

I have a lot of large paper bags (16x10x5.5 inches - that's 41x25x13.5 cm) if anyone would like to do a larger paper bag book.
Lisa, they are really easy to do (must be if I can make them  ).

Thanks - that's my youngest, Daniel - he's not a sweet as he looks. My children seldom are! I took the photo when we were at my parents' in Spain as they have incredibly soft water and the bubbles come up like you see the bubble baths on films. We're in Bracknell and have such hard water it's hard to get any lather, let alone bubbles!!

Hi ya'll (trying to say in a southern accent, but can't because I DON"T have one  ). It's the same here in South Carolina...if the roads are wet watch out. If it snow's , a very rare occasion, you are doomed. I have lived all over the us from New York, Puerto Rico to Hawaii and the worst drivers have to be here!!

I found some more paper bags at walmarts, in the craft section. They were colored, brights and pastels. I am trying to decided what to do. I have never made a paperbag book before, but I know they are easy to make...

I probably will be the last one with a theme. I keep saying...I want to do this, no that! I am leaning toward, home sweet home.

Karen, I like your winnie the pooh avatar.

Hi everyone
Sorry I've not been chatting much, I've had a manic week full of meetings and report writing. Having a stay at home day today though.
I love paperbag books. I've made loads of them, mainly for gifts for my two best friends and for my daughters, but have been thinking that they wouldn't be very practical for the kitchen if I did recipes.
Would it be ok if I did a hard backed 6x8.5 book... or is that too much for posting???

tinah
27-11-2005, 08:05 PM
Well I've been busy today and apart from my entry my CJ is done. Not sure what I'm going to do for my entry yet but still plenty of time. :D

KatieM
27-11-2005, 08:39 PM
Michelle, it is up to you how you would like your CJ to look, and if you are after something you can use then obviously it will need to be durable. I've just posted one about that size off (still in the UK) and it was £2.15. Don't know how much that would be to USA.

Tina - you HAVE been busy! I haven't really started to think about mine, apart from it being a paper bag book. I think if I made it this early there would be chance that I wouldn't be able to find it come the posting day!

Louise and Karen - just Pm me your address and I'll send you some bags. No charge for them :D

Kathryn :)

28-11-2005, 12:11 AM
I have been to wal-marts today and snagged a few of the paperbags they have in the frozen section. The ones that you can put your ice cream in. They are larger than the lunch ones.

How many are going to be in a group? I need to know before I decide to use the smaller or larger bags.

Are we going to have our very own blinkie?

KatieM
28-11-2005, 07:39 AM
Lori, well done for snagging some bags. I won't know for sure how many each group until the closing date for sign up. If we don't get any more from now then it will be 7 in each group (which will shorten the finishing time) but if we get it up to 20 then it will be ten or anything in between - not very helpful really am I?

I would love a blinkie, but have no idea how to make one (I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread), so if any of you are whizzes on the old pc..............

Hi All

I've been trying to keep up with all my advent stuff & other comitments so I haven't had chance to digest all that's going on here.

I've thought of a theme for my book - Around the World in 80 days. Sounds grand but would like a book of different destinations as long as we all do somewhere different.

Also, are we doing a paper bag book? I've got some but I don't think I have enough for a CJ. I'll need to go order some more (more shopping - oh dear).

Have a good one everyone!

OR I could do it ppb... and put a hard cover on that when I get it back! mmmmm... decisions... help!!

Another 2 themes have been put into the first post. Wow! I am so excited about this CJ - the themes we have are so interesting and will really make me think.

Michelle - I have no idea what to do for your CJ! Useless aren't I? I like the idea of a hard backed paper bag book..... will look great! Do you want us to mod podge our pages to make them waterproof against any splashes?

Not supidity!! I'm not quite sure yet Michelle. The closing date isn't until the 14th December, so we may get more people. There will certainly be 2 groups as 15 is way too big a number to have in 1 CJ. I'll put out another call nearer to the date if we haven't had any more, sorry to not be of any help to you until then. I suppose if one is making a paper bag book then at least you can make the cover and so on and just add another bag or two into the middle when we have the confirmed numbers.

Hello ya'll,as they say here in the south!

Kathryn (do you also go by Katie?), I usually don't have a minute where I am doing "nothing", but since I am off of work this week, I don't feel the pressure of having to get my arty projects done in a time frame. I am a critical RN and work Tue-Thurs, 12 hour night shifts, so I am usually gone from 6pm until 830-900am the next day. On my days of work, I do nothing but work, sleep and eat. By the time my days off come around I am trying fit in chores, arty stuff and life! I only have one child, an early teen and she's pretty independent. Plus my hubby pretty good at helping out.

Whew!! Didn't mean to bore ya!

Yesterday, I started going through my scrapbooking stuff and was regretting it something terrible about 300. I got some organized, but gave up!! It made me realize I do not need to go shopping for anything else!! I had stuff I had forgot about.

Here I am rambling again!

Later,
Lori

Hi all, I haven't been around much because any time on the PC has been spent frantically searching for a Pink Nintendo DS for DD for Christmas. Panic over, my colleague managed to pick one up for me in London yesterday.

I really hate the frantic looking for Christmas presents. I start buying quite earky, in the desparate hope that there won't be the hassle, but my boys say they want things, then at the last minute change their mind, and then I can't find what they want.

Hubby works for EA Games, so the two of them are so spoilt when it comes to PS2, Xbox and GBA stuff. This year I think I will buy them pyjamas!

Hi everyone
Our team cj - my first - has just finished. We had a 'grand opening' on the thread last night! it was brill. i'm really pleased with it :). All my team mates seem to be pleased with theirs too.
I've ordered the paper bags for mine now, but it wil lprobably be the xmas hols before I have time to put it together.
My shopping is a bit of a nightmare by the time I buy for all the children I need to buy for. And I'm orgnanising the children's xmas party for our foster carers support group. Need to buy those presents too... and wrap them all for Santa to give them out!
Better get on with it I suppose!!!

Can somebody please tell me - did we say we were doing paper bag books for our journal or is that just optional?

MicheleP
02-12-2005, 01:56 PM
Adele... it was a suggestion earlier in the thread, and I think a lot of us have decided to use them to keep postage costs down. That was my reason anyway... plus I like doing them and I think it might be quite novel! So it's a personal choice... to answer your question. Someone else is doing a sarabook I think!

The surface of each 'page' will be about 7 x 10 inches by the time you have created the 'spine' (well, you know, the bit where they are all joined together!! ).

Will be on later to chat when the boys are in bed. Simon is away tonight and I need something to occupy myself!!

Later,
Lori

Managing to catch up with your messages now Lori (I enjoy a good ramble - I'm rather an expert myself!!) Your job must be pretty intense at times! Its good that you can get the chance to relax.
The idea of going through all my crafting stuff :o We have been talking about moving (well, maybe renting to get in to the area of the school we want our son to go to! ) and I must admit I went a little clammy thinking about ALL the junk we would have to pack away!! Not a pretty idea!
My parents are coming down the middle of next week and at the moment you just can't see the bed in the spare bedroom, never mind sleep on it!

Kathryn :)

Can't you but the bags at the grocery store? You buy about anywhere here...the dollar tree, dollar general, walmarts....

And they are cheap. I think I bought a package of 50 for $1.00....just incase I wanted to make a paperbag book.

You can go off some people, you know! Paper bags are not that easily available for us over here. We pay around 70 - 80p for 10! I now know what to ask for when my friends go to the USA! It is the same with paintcans. We have to go to the sponsors for them.

Thats really kind of you Kathryn, I've just bought some from ebay though but not quite sure what size they are, they look big but then again the picture is a close up and they were only 50p for a twelve page book, three bags in total, and so I bought a few to combine the pages. Never done a paper bag book cj before so I think I will have a lot of fun :) Hi Nadine and welcome :D

KatieM

Hiya Everyone!

This is my first CJ...so really unsure of exactly what I need to do.....but I think I will make a 6 x 6 mini book, using book rings to bind...that ok?? Also I had the idea of A Favourtite Technique for the theme, but see lowrygirl is doing something like that :( Not sure what to do as my theme now....oh well :P Unless we can both do it but be put into different groups???

What do I need to do, before I post my CJ?? Make a cover, the book, is it a sign in page...and my entry??

Speak to you all soon...and trust me, I will....I can talk for England :P

I've added another team member - Sara-Jane. Helloo to you!

Kim - I see no problem with you doing the technique CJ - I can always put you and Louise into different groups as you said.
I think you have covered all you need to do for your CJ;
1) Find or make a book
2) Decorate the covers
3) Make an introduction page (what you would like for your theme, if you want acid free or not, if you prefer handwritten journalling, don't mind lumpy pages and so on.)
4) Make your sign in page(s). Some people put in blank tags or the like for the team to decorate - your choice entirely.
5) Put in your own entry.

I would also make several copies of a photo of yourself as many people like the contributors of their CJ to put a photo on their signing in page. (I know I do!)

Another handy thing is to put in the dates of the postings onto a calendar/in your diary, so you can keep track of when you should be posting, especially if you are in more than one CJ. It can get very confusing!

Hope that is of help to anyone who is not sure of how to go about it.

Kathryn :)

Thanks ladies. He has to be better for Thursday 'cos he is in his first nursery Christmas show! (I have tissues ready and camera on standby - we had to fill in a form to say he could be photographed and if people don't fill it in then no-one can photograph their own children in the show! )
At my school we have the policy that your child will be photographed and if you don't want them to you have to send in a letter.
I REALLY hope he gets better though - we have had interrupted sleep for the last 6 nights thanks to the two of them and I was up at 4:30 this morning as he couldn't sleep. Poor lambs, although they can sleep during the day!!

KatieM
07-12-2005, 05:48 PM
I would say to leave them blank then people will put in there layout on the colour that suits what they are doing.

Yep, that's what I would do, unless you really want it to be co-ordinated and people to 'just' decorate your pages for you. I have done one CJ where the owner wanted the blank pages covered in specific colours and she gave a certain manufacturers design to let us know in advance what to look for in our stash. Looked fab! I think most of us actually used the same style of papers so it was very co-ordinated!

I had thought to put tags into the openings and use them for the sign ins... does that make any sense???

adele
07-12-2005, 06:25 PM
Yes that makes perfect sense but this bags that have been kindly sent are quite big and they would have to be extra large tags. but maybe you have given me an idea .
Thanks

lowrygirl
07-12-2005, 07:30 PM
Kathryn, Thanks for the bags - I had wondered how we could do CJ entries on tiny bags (the size you normally use) I now know - They're HUGE!!

KatieM
07-12-2005, 07:45 PM
 They are rather larger than the usual that's for sure Louise!
I have used the smaller ones for a CJ and they work rather well. The area on each page is about 4 x 5 inches (I think)

I think I may use 1 of the openings to put an introduction card in and another to put in a signing in area - the rest can be used by any of the rest of the group who would like to put in extra.

Hello ladies

Well Ive finally got hold of a journal and am just painting the cover hoping to be inspired when I suddenly thought, how many pages will it need?

Sorry if its a stupid question, am a CJ virgin and want to get it right

winterbaby
10-12-2005, 12:25 AM
I think there will be 10 of us in a group so you will need a two page introduction, a two page layout for yourself and two pages at the back for all of us to sign in, we all need to do a two page layout so you will need in total about 24 pages, some people add extra pages just in case of mistakes, rarely happens, but nice to have the option. Hope this helps you Suzy, and don't be afraid to ask as it's no good jumping in head first if you don't know what your doing ;) :)

Thanks for answering that - well Ive got 21 pages in mine but have thought of an idea to condense the sign in page so just might have to add a couple more pages before it goes off.

I know to decorate the cover, but do you normally do the back aswell?

Hi Sara-Jane, lol not very interesting really, just painted the cardboard covers white, thought it might lend itself to a few more ideas like that, although so far, it hasnt LOL

KatieM
10-12-2005, 10:36 AM
Suzy, it is up to you as to whether you want to decorate the back cover. I usually do and I think most of the ones I have received do, but it is all your choice as to what you want to do. :)

I don't think I'll be able to start mine until after next week as I STILL have to finish teacher's presents!

Its up to you Suzy. Normally there is at least name, UKS ID on them and possibly the date of completion of your page, but I have also seen sign-in pages with location and a little about the person's life. I suppose it depends on how big your sign-in area for each member and what you want to know, if they are willing to put it. I also ask for a photo.

Hope that helps,

Kathryn :)

WOW Lowrigirl - all your paper bag books are gonna take forever to fill!! I thought when it was suggested to use paper bags we would be making the usual 4x4 ones

I will have a rethink about the size of my book now!

Hi all, sorry I have not posted here as often as I should but things have been really hectic here in Amble, the store that I work for went through a total re-furbishment and we still had to work and be open for the public while all of this was going on, thankfully now every thing is finished and back to normal so I'll be able to post here more on and after Christmas but just in case I don't then
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all ;) :)

winterbaby
20-12-2005, 07:57 PM
My paperbag book is 6x6 size and depending on how many people there will be in the I'm with, I should have enough for a double layout for everyone, unless of cause we're just sticking with a single layout per person??

MicheleP

My book will be a paper bag book - small one so everyone can complete a double page layout and I have come up with my title...(drum roll please!)

Hi, hope you've all had a good Christmas. Christmas day was a bit of a wash out as DD has been suffering with an ear infection, we ended up at the emergency doctors on Boxing Day. She's on Amoxy... now and definitely on the mend.

I need to get cracking with my CJ now, I'm off work this week, so will pencil some 'me' time in to make a start.

I'm just waiting on a couple of addresses so I can sort out the groups.

Nadine and Winterbaby - could you e-mail me your details - I sent my e-mail addy in my last PM. Also, I don't have e-mail addresses for cropkat and lowrygirl, so if you could e-mail me too then I'll have your details.

Once I have those I can finalise the groups.

I'm going to get started on my CJ as soon as I have my CRAFTROBO up and running ! :D :D :D DH bought it for Christmas for me - totally blew me away!!

That's the very chap! It is fab (alright, I have only cut out 1 word, but it does look great and is WAY easier that hand cutting and faster than die cut machines.) When you look at how much alphabets are for the most popular die cut systems you don't have to buy many to have spent as much as the craft robo cost! (Well, that was part of my argument for justifying wanting one!). Was NOT expecting to get one but DH said I had been so fab this year I deserved one! (Ahh, bless!)

Glad you all had a good Xmas....I did too :D

Well I haven't started my CJ yet....gonna do it this week...as I now have my own craft cupboard and a desk in my room :D:D:D So pleased!

I think this has been asked before, but to be perfectly honest, I can't be bothered to search and find the answer....sorry for being lazy :P

OK, do we need to make each double page for the other people to decorate or does everyone make their own pages? I am going to do a 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 mini book...so do I make a lot of pages or leave that to you??

Thanks

You need to make enough pages for everyone to do as many pages as you want them to. So, there will be 10 people in your group, and if you want them to do 1 page each you need to make sure there are 10 pages (maybe a couple of extras, just in case) or if you want them to do double, then 20 pages (and extras)

HTH,

Kathryn :)

Hi all!
Just realised that all the posting dates are Saturdays (took me a while I know!)
With swimming lessons and football training I am never going to make it to the PO before noon to post on a Saturday. Would the group mind if I posted on the Friday before to arrive on the Saturday? That way I will never risk posting late. I'm in a cj at present and the woman who posts to me has NEVER posted on time (and no excuses either) and it drives me mad! Wouldn't want to be like that!!!

Saz x

MicheleP
06-01-2006, 03:51 PM
I didn't realise they were Saturday's either doh!
I'm in a similar position and would find it easier to post on the Friday if that's ok with my recipient.... think that's you Adele :D

KatieM
06-01-2006, 05:56 PM
Saz and Michelle - I can't see posting on Friday being a problem. I'm afraid I was selfish and chose a Saturday because I can't get to the PO regularly on a week day and although DH hasn't said anything I think he was getting fed up of posting all my CJs and swaps for me! I'm not quite at the Saturday Sports lessons stage yet with the boys, so didn't think about that for others... sorry!

kathryn, I won't be able to make a Saturday posting either...by the time I have run around half of Bedfordshire with my son at a school footie match the PO will be shut - I will post on our chat thread that I intend to post on a Friday instead, just to check with the recipient that shes ok with signing for a recorded delivery on Saturdays.
