Yes I really am excited it is that time of the fortnight when we can just exhale and enjoy ourselves. Rose will be bringing her shop and also taking a class for those who wish to. There will be tea, coffee and a little something not too guilt ridden I hope. So whether you want to come and flop, crop,or chat you are welcome. The venue is the same The Basement of the Museum in Pontypridd, there is a carpark directly opposite. The time is 12:00/12:30 till three hours later. Hopefully Kelly will correct me on that, but I will be there from 12:00ish just to cover all eventualities.Look forward to seeing everyone again.

Now I feel a little more motivated as far as loosing some wieght, ok, delicious but low in calories!!(I can see if I can be moderate until I go to the Scrappers unlimited crop in Newbury.) I will attempt and skimmed milk is not a problem. Sounds like Rose is getting excited about the swapping table!!!

Mmm - no biccies sounds like quite a good idea, especially as I managed no exercise last week cos of a yucky cold - never mind, like a dutiful wife, I shared it with DH!LOL!
Swap table sounds interesting, but as my stash is minimal, I dont really have anything to swap!
See you all on Thursday!

Thanks Debbie you are nearly right, only out by half an hour, which is very impressive by my standards.
The times are 12:30 till 3:00 although anyone who feels the need to hang on until 3:30.
I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation!!
If anyone has a brayer they would like to swap I am extremely up for it, as I seem to have hit a brayer drought, I can only find ones in kits.
See you there

Rachel, go to B&Q and get a lino roller, same thing, half the price.
Theresa, its a small hard roller, like a paint roller, but solid. You roll it over your ink pad to cover it with ink and then roll it onto whatever you want inked. It does get it bit more technical, but that's basically what you do with it.

Hi there, Well it's the usual chaos in my house. FIL having op today so busy busy but will deffo see you this pm.
Debbie - I know what you mean I've been a day out all this week too. Not sure if it's cos of the bank hol or that dh went back to school a day late or what?
Rachel - I know what you mean about a brayer shortage. I think they've been abducted by aliens. I struggled to find one even on EBay. Wish I'd thought of B&Q as they had a sale last week.
Anyway I'll see you all 12.30 ish then. Take care. Rose

Hi Everyone,
Can't believe how fast yesterday afternoon went.
Rachel - Thanks for organising everything again yesterday and for the swaps. Can't wait till next time to see what you bring along. By the way where did you get your dominoes? Please thank your daughter for helping me pack the car afterwards.
Debbie - FIL's op went okay - has to wait about 10 days for result of biopsy but they removed lump already. Should be back home early next week. Thank you for your help unloading.
Shirley - Do you know how frequent the crops are in Rhiwbina? and/or who runs them. Is it the new shop in Whitchurch?
Kel - We missed you hope things are okay. See you soon.
Take care.

It was a really quick crop, the time went so quickly. I have heard from Kelly and she is up to her eyeballs at the moment but very much thinking of us. So hopefully she will be at the next crop. We will have a couple of new faces next time I have been contacted by a lady who saw our add in a magazine and a lady popped in to the last crop who will be joining us. I am really excited about the make and takes for next time.
I will be playing with dominoes this week to try and come up with a few alternatives. I love Anna griffin so I am in anticipation of Roses delights, her last kit was lovely.
So the next crop is on the 19th January 12:30 till 3:00.

Oh Great! I'd love to participate in a make/take - I was so pleased with my little accordian books that you showed me how to make Rachel!
I had a chat with my boss yesterday, he is quite amenable to my taking the odd afternoon off for a little break ( provided I can make up the time!)
I look forward to seeing you all at the next one!

08-01-2006, 04:43 PM
Rose,
the dominoes are from a little pound shop as you head towards the train station. I am thrilled with the experimenting so far. I have found out that I can emboss on them ! modpog them! and they take stamps beautifully!! I have had my lovely husband drilling various hole patterns in them - he doesn't trust me with his drill!!! If you drill them make sure you keep pulling the drill back out as otherwise they split because of the build-up of dust. Also if drilling through you need to try and avoid drilling through behind a spot as the split. You need to heat set them but the good thing I found is that until they are set if you make a mistake you can just wipe them off and start again, so there is nothing majorly disastorous that can happen. I hope everything is ok with your family particularly your fil.
Teresa,
I am so glad that you will be able to join us in the future your boss sounds great. I was also absolutely thrilled to see that you found my layout formula useful and have enjoyed the accordian book idea, I hope you enjoy the next one.
Thankyou everyone for your help and support over the last couple of meetings it is making the process of finding my feet so much easier and building my confidence in sharing the little knowledge that I have.
I think that is it for now.

Rose,
Did you say something about doing something with Anna Griffin papers?
I do hope so or maybe I was just hoping, That would be lovely if you fancy it. I am getting something together using guess what? Dominoes I will probably be sick of them in a fortnight, but they are great fun at the moment.
Hi Ladies
Just a quick visit en route to RGH, would there be any interest in doing ATCs at all? I am involved (sort of) with 2 groups doing these and wondered if you'd be up for doing some too. Must dash, will catch up properly later tonight xx

Hi everyone
Teresa - why did I never work for anyone like your boss? Their idea of give and take was the old I give they take!
Rachel - I'll bring my dominoes along to show you. They are about half the size of yours but plastic so not sure how they will stand up to heating. Only one way to find out though. Are you using yours for mini book covers or embellies or what?
Also yes I did say the kit/sample would be Anna Griffin. I've got loads so there will be a few choices too.
Kel - I really want to do ATC's but don't have a scooby doo how to do them. I've posted a few times but don't really get back the info I want/need so that would be great.
Ok bye for now. Getting excited already, Take care. Rose

I can't wait myself!!! It depends which papers Rose is using but they are very classic papers kind of Laura Ashley. Anna takes her inspiration from vintage and antique fabrics that she collects as her first love was textiles. I think I am right in saying that anyway Rose will probably be able to tell you more.
See you soon

Hi there, Well I typed in a long reply to the Anna Griffin question this afternoon and it is not there. Must have forgotten to press post. LOL.
Basically, no it is not a stupid question. I hate it when I go to a crop or class and don't have the right photo's with me. Anna Griffin is quite girly but also great for weddings, heritage etc. Goes really well with lace and ribbons which you may have in your quilting stuff. Also she does lovely rubber stamps and punches which I will be bring along too. Patterns, as Rachel says are mostly floral and scrolly and fleur de lys type things. Yes very original Laura Ashley is what I had said myself in my post abducted by aliens! gremlins! whatever. Colour wise mostly pastels, but some dark antique shades too. Subtle I would call them. Pinks, blues, greens, mauves, creams and combinations of the two. I will have a choice of papers for the kits so you can pick which colours you like and/or go with your piccies. I also have a number of her books which I will bring along too for inspiration and ideas. See you all on thursday. Take care. Rose

I've spent the afternoon creating a LO for the weekly challenge, using a lovely textured 'quilt' paper, and ... yes, you've guessed it... photos of some of my quilts! So these sound right up my street.

Yes me too, I can't believe where the time went today. I don't feel I really spoke to anyone properly.
Thank you for your swaps, they're great - one small thing. I have been racking my brain as to the items you asked about, the vintage clothes sticker, the little mouse set, and I thought there was something else other than that embossed card?
DH thinks facilitating stash sales would be good, only thing then is you would sell all your lovely stuff and have nothing left to swap. LOL.
I sent a PM to Debbie regarding seeing you next week. If I have forgotten something other than the wizard dies that you wanted to borrow please let me know. Take care and have a good weekend. Rose
PS Haven't gone to hockey with DH tonight as Bonanza is supposed to be open for bookings tonight. What a shambles.

DH was very very impressed with the dominos. He's going to drill some more holes in some of the others for me, and then we'll play with them a bit more. I'm trying to get some tidying up done, so we're ready for the party tommorow, but not too inspired by that! I really want to cut out letters and show DH how a LO would look using dominos!

I think that's one of the benefits of getting kits, they put together combinations that you wouldn't think of in a million years, but they look great together. I like to buy papers in a particular range because I know they will go together, but some people can pick papers from different ranges and know they will go, I don't always have that knack.

Woohooo! I dont have to go anywhere after school today, so I'm going to play with the kit we had from Rachel last week!

A fastenater is a long arm stapler that holds very large decorative staples. Like brads and eyelets they come in lots of colours and metallic finishes. I have a selection including some with words on. So everyone can have one in their kit to attach their ribbon with or whatever. I've got two lo ideas in my head which I will do and then you can either copy one of those or do your own thing. So basically think about what you could use a fastener about half an inch wide for. As the ends of them are quite short and easy to fold over, you can actually put them in quite easily without having your own stapler, so if you wanted to use them at home it wouldn't be a problem.

can you buy these kits at the crop?
Dibby
24-01-2006, 11:21 PM
Yes, Rose is doing the kits, you can buy from her, and either do her suggestions, or you own, or just bring your own stuff and do that.
Last week Rachel brought along a kit with dominoes in which was excellent.
Be prepared to enter another time zone though - the couple of hours flew by!

Been very naughty today and ordered a Wizard die cut alphabet set from the US. It was a bargain cos it was used for a store demo so really looking forward to trying it out. It is a circular one which will fit into bottle caps, and can be used three different ways so even better value. I'm in convince DH mode here aren't I! LOL

hiya rachel, the kit was from jillybeans scrapyard the february one, it was about £25 but i got loads for the money, tons of cardstock in the same gorgeous colours as the layout, alphabet slides ribbons, coaster like tags, badge-like sticker embellishments, tons of stuff! i'm a bit chuffed actually because they are using the layout i did in their gallery, it feels like a sort of honour! i'm really looking foward to meeting you all next week, i've got tons of stuff for the swap table aswell!

Hi everyone, We missed you!
Kel - hope everything was ok at the hospital?
Rachel and Helen - disappointed you couldn't make it but never mind will have more to swap next time!
Rachel - Debbie told me to keep a kit for you so no problem with that.
In fact anyone who wants any of the previous kits, I still have some left.
We used fastenater bars this week on the layout and I have ordered more of them in a whole variety of colours with the intention of splitting the packs up so that you can just have a few of each colour. Bit like doing a swap without the postage. LOL. Don't worry if you haven't got the stapler. You can put them in as easy as putting in a brad, without one.

Thanks Teresa, as I said I did like the photo - in fact I actually had some I took on same day that I liked even better, but they were too blue - the colour I mean LOL - to go with the green card they sent. Have to say that the kit must have been pretty dire as none of the other readers did anything very clever with it either. I was pleased however, that the blurb they asked me to write to go with it went in exactly as I submitted, cos I did think they would edit it. Especially the bit about not liking the kit! Take care. See you soon. Rose
Hi all

Half term in Cardiff and I think all of Wales, doesn't start until Monday 20th Feb. So we should be ok for both of the next two as they should fall either side of the kids - and in my case dh, being at home.
Phew thanks for that, the kids are lining up a pretty hectic half term so should make for some good scrapping pics!
Racheland4
06-02-2006, 12:26 PM
MMMmmmmmmeeee,
If that is the right terminology - yes I am pondering !!!
We are having a bit of a crisis!!!
YOUR CROP NEEDS YOU!!!!!!
We have had a slow start and although we have enjoyed each others company things are not looking good, so we really need to get together at the next crop an come up with some ideas.
I am sure there are ways around this situation and hope very much that we can find a way to accomodate everyone who has enjoyed the group so far.
From the start this has been opened up to the floor for everybody so here it is on the floor looking for some help.
Does anyone have thoughts on :
Venue
Timing
Content
Structure
Management
Anything
Yes I am tenacious, I don't like to throw the towel in, so please help me to come up with something that will ultimately be of benefit to all of us.
Just a thought - what if we change to a monthly crop but possibly an all dayer? That we we could do workshops or our own thing and not have to panic about only having X amount of time, plus we can plan ahead as to what we would like to see. Am I making sense? As an alternative venue for a possible all day crop, even if we say 10am - 3pm I was thinking of the Muni Arts Centre, they have a fab room upstairs and a restaurant downstairs where we can grab lunch.
Wot No Scraps
06-02-2006, 01:23 PM
I would prefer fortnightly or even weekly. An all day crop would be expensive in terms of a venue and then what happens if it is not well supported? The current venue isn't perfect in terms of parking and fetching/carrying but obviously it would depend on what alternatives might be available. Really need to see who actually materialises next time. No point fitting it around people who don't come anyway.
teresa_wales
06-02-2006, 03:10 PM
I think to go to all-day would be quite a gamble Kel, especially as we seem to be a pretty small group at the moment.
A fortnightly afternoon is probably about as much as I can make. But I fully realise that if everyone else wants something different then I'll go along/bow out depending on how things change - I may need to increase my hours at work soon, although I am trying to figure out how I can hang onto my little sanity breaks ( provided there are no more unexpecte incidents like DDs accident last week, and being sent home from school sick today)
Teresa
see what you mean ladies, would you like me to get in touch with the Muni about the room upstairs as a possible venue change? It would be easier with parking as the goods yard car park it behind it
Helen M
06-02-2006, 06:06 PM
hiya all, sorry to butt in and probably a bit cheeky since i haven;t attended yet! i would love to commit to a crop weekly, monthly or whenever one is set up but i find the timing a problem, the weekend is fabulous for me but i appreciate this may not be for everyone else. i live in treorchy and it takes me about 25 minutes to get to ponty then parking etc. and i have to be home by 3 so if i did want to attend i need to get childcare which is near enough impossible for the time at the moment, which is why i couldn;t turn up last time. it's maybe a consideration for people who may want to turn up. perhaps maybe advertising would get a few more people in, hobbycrafts have an info board you could maybe stick a poster up on?
just a few suggestions, i hope you don't mind

Helen M
07-02-2006, 11:16 AM
i completely agree with you rosina but the only problem for people who can only attend a weekend crop would mean that they wouldn't be able to attend scrapology due to it only being on week days
Racheland4
07-02-2006, 11:23 AM
Helen,
Your comments are more than welcome and much appreciated. I live in Porth so appreciate your dilema.
Rose are there really that many weekend crops in South Wales? I feel like I have been missing out.
I am moving in about a month so will have a bit more space for small group of people who may want to meet regularly on an informal basis.
I am still ummmming and arring Kelly has been in touch with me and mentioned the room upstairs in the Muni as an alternative venue as it has easy access to parking. Maybe a morning crop might be worth considering something that would start after the children are dropped off and mean we could get home in time for nieghbours, maybe that is just me, please forget I said that!!!! I watch it for sociological reasons !!!!
Any more ideas???
I like the idea of maintaining a cooperative group and maybe encouraging each other a little more in taking that a step further??

07-02-2006, 12:21 PM
Definitely plenty of weekend crops Rach, I go to two, and if I wanted to go just over the bridge, I could do one every Saturday. Just the wee problem of a DH and kiddiwinks who want to see me sometimes unfortunately (or rather want me to act as taxi for them so they can go somewhere too!).

I must add none of these changes will take place for the next crop which will be as usual, I don't want to confuse anyone.
Gosh I am getting quite the organiser her, not bad hey Kelly, hope you don't mind me being so bossy, but we need to get this on track or there maybe nothing for you to come back to.

OOhhh!!!
I might have an added extra on the kit front also, I won't say too much now I just want to make sure I can get hold of everything first. I will hopefully be something a little bit different again.
On that note do people buying the kits want demonstrations?? I am always very wary of not wanting to teach granny how to suck eggs!!!!

15-02-2006, 10:53 AM
Hi everyone, Sorry been so busy forgot about posting this info:
The kits for tomorrow are amazing: Once more incredible value at just £3.
Papers from Die Cuts With a View - stripes, spots, paisley etc plus flower from either Heidi Swapp (huge peachy/pinky fabric one) or Making Memories (yellow paper ones.)
Basically there are 7 kits with 6 papers in. They are all the same but in slightly different colourways. First come first served!
And then there are two more kits with 6 different papers in. More retro, still by DCWV, still with huge Heidi Swapp flower.
They all contain a brad to attach them - I have a choice of brads.
For the very large flowers you might want to consider putting something else in the centre like a button perhaps.
You may also want to consider bringing some cardstock with you for your layout as there are so many options I couldn't cover them all. I do have some card but it may not be what you want.
I haven't done a sample as didn't want to use up one of the kits when I think we have a full house tomorrow but I do have some ideas and a book all about using patterned papers.
Also have choice of two kits for you to peruse for next time, either Christmas or a variety of nice blues.
See you all tomorrow then. Take care. Rose
oooh you're talking my language now Rosina - retro!! Are we having a swaps table tomorrow?

Will you be able to make it today Kel?
yep, I have arranged for someone to sit with OH so I can get a sanity break!! Might only be bringing what I can fit in the crop bag though, terrible weather this morning.
Do anyof you park in the multistorey by the police station? Is it any good and how do I get in there? lol

The entrance to the car park is just about opposite to the entrance to the museum car park (if that makes sense). Basically in you go, and just keep going up. However, don't take too much, because the lifts don't work and you will have to carry it all back up again! And, don't forget to pay and display either!
Thanks Debbie, I knew where the exit was just not the entrance - d'oh!!
