Forgive me if you all know this, but the GRO are going to put the whole index on line for searching, in view of the fact that you can order the certificates from them lets hope it will be a free search.
Hadn't heard this...any idea when it is likely to happen. If it is free, it will put a lot of others noses out of joint....but will be hooray for us searchers.

No that is all I heard, there was a small article in a Genealogy magazine.
There's an article in the latest booklet from Bucks FHS I received today. It starts with 'The GRO has now awarded a contract to..........., so I should think it's going to be a while yet. The records will be digitised, encripted, sent electronically to India to produce the index. Batch outputs will be sampled, a single error will be invalidate the whole record and have to be processed again. Will be 99.5% accurate apparently.
