i looked in your gallery but your wonderful creations aren't there !

yllas
16-11-2005, 12:44 PM
mmmm i've only done a handful of AB, but i'd suggest using a sturdy one, and some use ones with a title to go with the "theme" of the book.
I found it easier to decide on what i wanted the book to be for...(i gave one as a love token to DH)
once you've the theme then collect suitable bits....almost anything is possible.
and then i try to work out how many pages will be used per section (some need glueing together for durability)
then just go for it.
I can give Fi, a book i have on the "special" pages you can do like the flag page and pop ups as well as envelope closures etc that are all handy to know even if you dont want to add them.
I will see Fi before the crop so she can bring it with her for Sophie to look at and hopefully get some ideas from Hope that helps ;)

OK, ladies, I think next crop we should burn incense and chant or something to get the bad luck to go away, because we all seem to be having it! This weekend my car got broken into (they tried to steal it but failed) and they jammed the steering column and broke a window, and it's going to cost around 300 quid to fix it. So that, the heating, Sally's car trouble, the evil cable man, and everything else is just a little much! Ack!!!

Sorry to vent ... I'm just losing my patience and wanted to commiserate a bit. I'll start thinking really good thoughts for all of us, though, so we all have better Decembers!

Hope the rest of you aren't afflicted with this unfortunate turn of events.

Nona
21-11-2005, 09:01 PM
Im up for album Fi - Im sure I mentioned it somewhere but my name isn't on the list so thought I'd mention it again:D

Really Looking forward to doing Am's class they looked really effective:D

Chelsea ~ {hugs} so sorry to hear about your Car - Can you claim on the Insurance under attempted theft? (sorry insurance hat appearing again! )

Amanda S
21-11-2005, 09:50 PM
Chelsea sorry about your car will join you in some chanting :) we need some good luck.

Nona don't say my class saturdays was my first mailer with tape :o just bringing the stash for people to have a play if they want too :D

Fi please can you add Sophie to the list she loved it. would also like to do secret santa if thats okay, as for likes and dislikes anything pink would be liked or galaxy chocolate, lipgloss that sort of thing typical 13 year old really !

katej
21-11-2005, 10:30 PM
Oh Chelsea sweetie I'm so sorry to hear about your car. You poor thing, its all just more stress and hassle isnt it. I didnt get a chance to ask about jobs today as I was out all afternoon but I'll get on it tomorrow so hopefully I might be able to give you some good news for a change.

Can I sign up for secret santa and I would definately be interested in the album. And I do promise choccy carrot cake this time....no excuses!!

gnome_girl
22-11-2005, 12:27 AM
Mmmm..... chocolate carrot cake sounds delicious, and I'm not usually keen on carrot cake...

Thanks for the help, Nona, but unfortunately DH and I are over here on a student's budget so we don't have theft coverage... :( I guess we're paying for it now, though. One of life's little lessons, I guess.

Thanks for the hugs everybody, I'm trying to maintain a good attitude about the whole mess. Your warm wishes help, though. :)

Can't wait to start with Secret Santa stuff to take my mind off all this!

yllas
23-11-2005, 10:06 AM
{{{hugs}}} from me too Chelsea, so sorry to hear about your car :(
Seems like this spate of bad luck has got to a few of us lately....so i'll happily chant, burn joss sticks, even get into a weird and wonderful meditation position if it will help ;)

All this talk of cake and secret santa is something to look forward to :D

scrappybunny
23-11-2005, 12:03 PM
omg Chelsea on the car :o thats terrible! definitely bringing some incense next time then!!

i was coming over here to this thread to type replies to the last thread but now I've forgotten everything I was going to say

starting with a cold here, you know that stuffed up feeling and a sore throat? so drinking lots of lemsip - usually kills it straight off :D
Aimee is off home this week, very sick, and we're on hourly phone calls to the hospital which will hopefully mean she can stay home rather than go in
Alex is VERY lively and unsettled since he got back, but lots happening this week, he met his tutors on Monday, seemed okay, then had his first session yesterday (the teacher that came was FAB! very very softly spoken and just got on with I dont know how many different activities with him in the hour they had together, and totally ignored me whilst I was moping up sick child and on phone to the hospital, lol).
we also had the police youth offending officer round too! was quite nice and very understanding to Alex's 'whatever' attitude

anyway, he's off out this afternoon on his first enabling session and doesnt want to go off with TWO adults he doesnt know but I've persauded him to give it a try :)

anyway, now I have still not remembered what I wanted to say, so am going to go off and make some tea (and lemsip)

yllas
23-11-2005, 12:08 PM
Fi, {{{{{hugs}}}}} sounds like you all need a few hugs right now.
So sorry to hear Aimee is so poorly...sending her lots of love and ***get well vibes***
Hope your better after all the lemsip ;)
GL to Alex on his enabling days and well done for getting a great sounding teacher for Alex, hope this is the start of good things for him ;) {hugs}

its almost too cold to think here brzzzz

Hee hee, Sally, maybe they're trying to tell you something ... they probably think "You're Beautiful." woo woo!

I'm definitely up for a CJ, but I'm having trouble choosing a theme. I think I'll do a little more research on CJs first, since I've never done one before. But count me in anyway!

*big waves* and *hugs* to everyone!! :D :D

Getting very excited now.

I have no idea what the album thing is Fi...can someone please enlighten me?? (You know, us part time Exeter croppers -- always in the dark!! :o)

Hope Aimee is doing much better, and that Alex is getting on fabulously with his new tutors.

I'm in on the CJ -- but have no theme yet. Maybe inspiration will strike later!!

No turkey and sweet potatoes for me tomorrow (Thanksgiving) but instead, a trip to Bluewater for Christmas shopping, and dinner out with Ed and my parents!! :o :o

Not sure when I'm going to get organized for the rest of Christmas, or cards etc...but it had better be soon, or I will miss the mailing deadlines to the States!! EEEKKKK...

gnome_girl
23-11-2005, 08:28 PM
OK, I've got it ... I decided my theme for the CJ will be "Eccentricities and Obsessions." Hee hee - should be an interesting one.

Am - I've PM'd you with my address, thanks again for sharing your stuff... and poor Sophie with migraines at 13. That's just not right. :(

23-11-2005, 09:16 PM
Ooh count me in for the circle journal..sounds exciting but I might need some help on what to bring as I've never done one before.

scrappybunny
24-11-2005, 10:26 AM
hope Sophie is all better now Am

Aimee is well on the mend - yay! no hospital trip, last time she got sick it was a two night stay!! and she has a non-pupil day tomorrow so looks like a whole week off school :o

Alex had his first session out with the enabling scheme yesterday and went walking on Dartmoor, he LOVED it, and thinks both the people are mad (in a good way) so he's looking forward to going to Crealy today :D
At the moment he's with his second teacher (first session with her) and is chatting away nicely so fingers crossed there.
They are both brilliant with their time and are keeping activities limited to 15 minutes before switching to something new.

big waves to Sharona and *omg* (hehehe)
the album is a project we are doing next year at the crop, a 2006 album or book of me album, new technique each month and then a complete album at the end of the year :)
I'll be off today searching for those albums

great CJ theme Chelsea ( secretly going :o :o :o - omg!!!) LOL

Kate, the mini CJ is great fun, nice and quick (well in theory anyway, hehe)

Fi -

Do you have approximate measurements for the mini-book we're using for CJs? I'm trying to plan what to bring along (very excited about the themes, btw) !!!

Is it just me, or does the "winking" guy on here actually look like he's in pain? ;)

Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes, I am busily cooking all day today in preparation for feasts tonight!

Hi all!

Thanksgiving was great; special thanks to Nona and her wonderful shopping tips.

It was so magical, though, to have everyone together for such a special day, and then it snowed! How perfect!

Hello ladies, the egg nog recipe is on allrecipes.com ... I'll post the link on our Yahoo site since I'm not sure if we're allowed to do that here.

It's pretty good, though not as thick as at home. Since I've already made it, I would be willing to bring it to the Xmas crop if there is enough interest. :) I would also bring something to eat, but I'm not sure what ... perhaps I'll wait a bit till more people have decided what they want.

Chelsea, the Egg Nog recipe looks tasty, does it taste eggy?...or like Custard? (i've never tied it)

I'd just like to say I AM NOT SINGING!!!!!!!!!! I am quite happy to play the piano for a sing along but will not sing on my own!

Sally ~ Hope Truly is OK but it did make me chuckle - 7 times that sounds like the sort of thing I'd do:rolleyes:

Fi ~ I'll do Cheese & Pineapple Im very good at that:lol: bit of a cheese and pineapple legend at work!? I don't really think that it is anything to boast about really is it!? Might also do a cheescake If I get time too.

Chelsea ~ Glad thanksgiving went well. I'll PM you in a mo with some other info;)

Am ~ Are sophie & aimee planning another westcountry play with a christmas twist? If so I better bring some tissues to wipe away the tears!!!!

Hi everyone else not long to go now!

Nona
25-11-2005, 04:55 PM
No not quite that bad on cocktail sticks on a plate!

yllas
25-11-2005, 04:57 PM

Hope no ones bringing those little balls filled with cheese stuff....we always had them at parties...and they tasted yukky

OMG all my 1970's party memories are flooding back!!!

Um ... Egg Nog is hard to explain. It does not taste eggy, but it doesn't taste non-eggy either. I really can't explain it. I'm happy to bring it, though, if you'd rather sample it before you make your own. It's mostly just creamy milky whatever, is usually alcholic (the rum) and a British guy at the party last night said it tasted kind of like a White Russian. I would have to wholeheartedly disagree with him, but I've also been drinking egg nog since I was a child (sans the rum, obviously) :) But maybe his tastes would be more similar to yours... I dunno.

The funniest part about all of this, I must point out, is that you Brits INVENTED the stuff. Apparently you abandoned it, though ... along with cheese balls (Goodness only knows what those must be!!!) Ha ha.

Am - you and your Gingerbread Men, hee hee hee. :D

OK, so am I bringing egg nog, then? I'll really leave it up to you ladies. I'm still trying to think of something else to bring ... most of my favorite recipes are sweets, and I know there's already going to be gingerbread people and Yummy Yummy chocolate carrot cake... :P

gnome_girl
25-11-2005, 09:07 PM
Ooh ooh, I just figured out what I want to make. There's these really yummy things that *we* Americans call "biscuits" but they're not cookies, they're savoury, but the ones I make aren't the ones from the South in the dish 'biscuits and gravy', they're yummy, light, cheesy fluffy things ...

... I am really not good at explaining food, am I? Ha ha. Anyway, they're pretty yummy so I think I'll bring them and hopefully you all will agree.

Hey, that reminds me ... Sharona, help me out! I know we haven't met yet, but maybe you're better at explaining egg nog than I am. :D

yllas
26-11-2005, 09:11 AM
thanks Chelsea...i think your biscuits are like our savoury scones?

chrisrydal
26-11-2005, 10:40 AM
I'll make potato salad for the party if that's ok :)

scrappybunny
26-11-2005, 11:01 AM
I'm sure we can persuade them to do a repeat performance Sally, we were in tears with them and those 'Squres' (how DO you spell that!)

egg nog sounds a must LOL , unless you fancy making cinnamon buns :rolls:
but then again biscuits sounds YUM!!! Sharona introduced me to Popeyes and their chicken and biscuit breakfast! wow!!!

and potato salad Dolly - YES PLEASE!!! (Dolly makes the best potato salad in the world :D :D )

now, do I take it I dont need to make soup?

Am, ordered from Muji, got you 10 of those ring notebooks, is that right? and I'll bring that book you wanted too

taz_uk
26-11-2005, 11:22 AM
oooh popeyes - i used to love their food - i was so sad when the one in leicester square closed down :(

hmmm have to think about what i can bring - not sure i'll be cooking it though

gnome_girl
26-11-2005, 12:37 PM
Ha ha, sadly, yes, Fi, you have precisely the right idea with Popeyes. Not what I would want to represent Southern cooking, but I guess it's better than nothing. ;)

And yes, they're sort of like savoury scones, but much lighter and fluffier and melt-in-your-mouthier. Mmmmm...... *Chelsea wipes drool off keyboard*

OK, I'll definitely make egg nog. I'm afraid if I made the cinnamon buns again we would all need to have our arteries cleaned; two of those things in three weeks can't be good for you! Hee hee.

Ha ha, you all are nutters! In a good way, of course. ;)

How sad, I'm a little too young for all this Adam Ant stuff; I know who he is, but it wasn't part of my youth so much as my infancy ...

...Whose poster did I kiss before going to sleep, then? New Kids on the Block. Ha ha. How embarassing. Did they make it over here at all? They were so cheesy, but I didn't care. I was also in love with George Michael way before I understood why THAT would never work out. Ha ha - Oops. :)

OK, the "under the table" remark reminded me: since we're in a church hall, would it be appropriate to bring the spiked egg nog? I just don't know the rules ... Wouldn't want to get in trouble! :stop:

Ali - I think there's a bunch of us who are new, and it really is the most easy group to become a part of. The ladies are really SOOO sweet ... not only do they welcome new people to the crop, they also put up with people who don't know what jelly is or where to find icing sugar or sherbet!!! Ha ha - OK, that would be me. Anyway, you'll love it, I'm sure.

Bought my Santa hat today, going to Claire's tomorrow for really cheesy Christmas jewelery. Can't wait! :D

Oh Chelsea you youngster, I was soo in love with Adam Ant, even painted a white stripe accross my face once!! ROTFLMAO about your George Michael comment, just cos I felt the same. Wham was the first ever band I saw live and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven  especially when I caught one of the shuttlecocks that had been down GM's pants!!! :nono: shame on me!!

in the early 80's i loved Nick Heyward :D and haircut 100 *blush* and he's still rather tasty now.
Neverwas a fan of GM, Wam, Nick Kershaw, DD etc etc...and then got into The Smiths, The Cure, Jesus and Mary Chain etc...i'll happily bring some CD's for the crop ;)

OMG how much reading have I just had to do.

I Love Duran Duran and even went to see them in Plymouth a couple of years ago and it was FAB!

Nona - my best friend at school loved Morton and Mags and I can remember buying her the first AHA album one christmas.

I love Wham - how can you not love Wham they are soo cheesy but so good :)

I am just trying to think what I can bring to the crop - food that is. Has anyone said sausage rolls yet?

yllas
29-11-2005, 11:23 AM
Dont think S rolls are on the list yet ;)

scrappybunny
29-11-2005, 11:34 AM
blimey Taz, that was quick! :o

hiya Sarah :D *waves* nope, Sally's right, S/Rolls not on the list yet :)

sarahy
29-11-2005, 11:47 AM
Hi SB

Okay, I will bring the sausage rolls then. Mum is just trying to decide what to bring.

I don't know about everyone else but I am happy just to pick at the buffet, I don't think we will need soup as well.

scrappybunny
29-11-2005, 11:50 AM
fab, thanks Sarah

just want to add, its not compulsory to bring anything but if you are, just let me know so I dont bring the same

okay then, buffet for tea then? :D :D :D

I am tooooo excited :D - as always

gnome_girl
29-11-2005, 03:23 PM
Buffet for tea sounds great!!!

Hopefully that'll give SB and Aimee a much-deserved break, although it might necessitate bringing hot chocolate mix to help keep us warm in the evening! I was just reading the main article on the UKS main page about scrapping attire and laughing because I know last time I kept having to put on my jacket, but I couldn't really work with the big puffy sleeves, so I'd have to take it off, then put it on again ... highly unproductive. :D Luckily the one thing I got out of going to that silly Christmas Fayre was a container of REALLY yummy chai latte mix, so maybe I'll bring that along, plus some Cadbury cocoa mix or something ... people laugh at me, but I'm a hot chocolate addict, always will be ...

I'm excited to meet Ali and Taz and all the other people who aren't new to the crop but WILL be new to me since we haven't met before ... *waves all!*

OK, off to purchase cute Christmas jewelery . . . fa la la la la....

yllas
29-11-2005, 06:09 PM
no soup, but buffet sounds scrummy :D
just spent several hours in Rainbows..a local store and bought DD SS gifts and a few for my victim ;)
Also a few stock fillers for DH & DS..as well as some slippers for Mum...gosh you can buy almost anything there!

may have to bring a few Vegi items as i know there will be 3 of us at the crop ;) and we wont be eating the meaty items ;)

the hot choc sounds like an ideal warmer upper :D

i'm gonna bring thermal undies and a loooong scarf just incase

scrappybunny
29-11-2005, 06:14 PM
LOL at Chelsea's singing there

I know the hall was a bit chilly last time, I am hoping it was because we had the doors wide open for the first couple of hours, I will make sure they are closed and the heating on from the minute I get there this time. So if you see the door shut, dont worry about it, we'll be there, just keeping warm

so where's this shop then Sally? sounds like a must-visit type of shop

just got one of my parcels away in the post! phew!! busy afternoon but now back home for a much needed cup of tea

cant wait to make calendars at the crop!

yllas
29-11-2005, 06:23 PM
Sounds like a good plan SB, cant have us merry makers getting cold ;)
the shop is just up the road from me, theyhave one in seaton, and its a bit like a little Trago, but there are a few good finds and as the new stock comes in weekly (and is usually different every time) you cant help but find something of use or amusement

love the new Avatar BTW, very cute and warm looking :)
how are we making the calendars?

scrappybunny
29-11-2005, 06:27 PM
:D one of the kids made it for me on the kids forum, they do look after me in there :D

the calendars... well! seeing as I have this fabulous book... tons of choices, but probably best if I post a mixture of them so everyone can decide whats for them, but there are layout ones, paper bag ones, big ones small ones - love this book :D

re: ticket for sale.
I had a Chippendale ticket...couldnt even give it away
goodness knows why DH got it for me...well i do know why some then friends where going and he thought he'd pay so i could have a "girls night out" ....no way did i want to go *blush*

gnome_girl
29-11-2005, 07:14 PM
Ha ha, Chippendale - sounds like you have a very forward-thinking husband, Sally! I wouldn't go either, though ... just don't see the appeal. Plus I'd be too embarassed the whole time and I'd probably have to keep my hands over my eyes... An aunt of mine used to live in a condo across the way from a group of Chippendale dancers, and apparently they'd practice their routines on their balcony in full view! :o

Anyway, Holy Shopping Trouble, Batman! I've just spent the last hour and a half on Artbase.com, totally overwhelmed by selection ... but having difficulty with my SS stuff because scrapping is so personal! I spent so much time worrying about personal tastes, etc... oh well. Hee hee, this is fun, anyway. Couldn't resist buying a little for myself, either. Oops. :)

Chelsea - DH has bought me some Stephens hot choccy back from his trip..Its sooo sweet, creamy and thick..I should definately bring it with me on Sat.

sarahy
29-11-2005, 07:29 PM
Kate - I expect you were really pleased to see dh when he got home, especially with all the goodies he brought back!

Sally - I couldn't go and see the chippendales yuk! I did get dragged along to see the dream boys once and it was awful. My 'friend' (a friend's girlfriend) got up on a table and danced which is just not me at all!! I felt quite embarrassed for her.

 @ the Chippendale/dream boys comments...how embarassing is that! *blush*

Mmmm, stash shopping lucky you Chelsea, DD's got all her SS stuff bought, but i still have to get a few things and I'm not stuggeling, but i know what you mean about personal taste, and my victim has said shed like anything...which makes me more worried  I'm gonna get things i'd like and hope for the best.

Kate, you lucky lady, and i'd say DH then the stash ;) the choccy drink sounds extra nice mmmm

Well Mini Manny arrived here this morning, so should be entertaining him today...now what would a small furry elephant like to do I wonder???

gotta get busy with my secret santa, I know what you mean about personal taste, Heli has been really mean to me in the past, told me to spend for her at PaperArts and the only instructions are 'something nice'!!! how hard is that!! :o its ALL NICE! LOL

"Deck the halls with boughs of holly fa la la la la la...."

Helllllllllllllloooooo everyone! gosh, has taken an age to catch up with this thread (I should be wrapping presents to mail to the States!)

I'm getting very excited now! Egg nog...I used to love that! Can't remember the last time I drank any!! Yipeeee!! If you want an idea...try an eggnog latte at Starbucks...it's nothing like the real drink texture wise, but will give you an idea of flavor! (Sorry, I'm not really good at describing it either! :o) As for the biscuits - yum!

I will bring something Fi -- just don't know what yet...I'd like to make a 7-layer dip, but need to find a recipe first! :D

Hope the weather is kind to us next week so I can get down! :D

Is anyone else having WAY too much fun with Taz' CJ theme? My heartrate has definitely increased as I prepare to print photos of my "hottie" guy ... but is there anyway you could give us the dimensions of the mini-book for the CJ, Fi? Must plan for photos, you know ...

:)

The good news is: whoever is working on this CJ won't need the hot cocoa or the heater, I'm sure, she'll just need to flip through the pages! Hee hee.

OK, time to wipe the drool off my keyboard...

gnome_girl
01-12-2005, 04:19 PM
Hee hee - you all are so funny. This group totally cracks me up. Especially since it's not just me that gets confused and/or misunderstood when Sharona is around ...

... for example, I read 7-layer dip and just about died of happiness. Sounds delicious, btw, Sharona. How funny to think that our two cultures can be so similar, yet SOOOOO different at the same time?!? (tee hee, sherbet, snicker snicker)

My question kinda goes with Sally's - for the CJ's can we use whatever style/materials we want? I mean, we're not worrying about acid free and all that are we? LOL clearly I have spent too much time thinking about this.

yllas
01-12-2005, 04:41 PM

Weekend going great here, I am planning my trip to Sunny Spain!!!

DH and I are leaving the day after the crop on the coach to London, then on a plane to Seville for four days. I've never been there, so I'm very excited.

Also quite excited for the crop, though I'm really trying to figure out how we're going to fit so much in!!! I see what people mean about not getting any scrapbooking done, that's for sure. I have a package waiting for me at the parcel office to retrieve on Monday (don't you hate it when you miss a parcel and have to go running after it?) but I know it's from ArtBase, so that's exciting anyway. I've got all my Christmas jewelry/santa hat ready to go ...

Hee hee. Can't wait to see you all Saturday! btw, Fi, my cheque will be in the post tomorrow. I'm bad and I keep forgetting. :(

gnome_girl
05-12-2005, 11:54 AM
Fi can, of course, correct me if I'm wrong, but she originally said the books were A6 size, which is 10.5 cm x 14.8 cm, or approximately 4x6 in.

I think she just left out the "1" in front of 4.8 by mistake.

Hi all
I'm just sneaking on here between lessons. There is the carvery at Exeter hotel (just down road) which is okish but only £3.50 per person which might be nice. We do have access to a kettle and microwave at school, so we could do a bunch of ready meals. Caretaker happy for us to stay as late as we want and will even put the heating on for us!!!
