View Full Version : Cutting Thick Card

I like to use fairly thick card for making my own embellishments. Plectrums and such like. I have just cut some plain white card, thicker than bazzill.
Cut yourself one of Karin's O' rings out of medium weight card and use this with the plastic O' ring.
Media - thick card
Blade - Pink
Thickness - 30
Speed - 7
Try a test cut first, but this worked for me and cut first time. Hope it helps, girls.
Thanks - I'll try that tonight - it's getting to be a pain sending things to cut twice!

Will try later too, so bookmarking to make sure I don't lose this, which I'm sure I wouldn't... thanks Tosca

Tosca, thanks for the settings. I wasted my day yesterday with a couple of different heavy cardstocks that kept getting ruined for varying reasons... wasn't taped down well enough or blade was shredding the textured part.
With these settings were you using the carrier sheet or was it Xyron'd? If using the carrier sheet, did you have it taped down or was the tackiness sufficient to hold yours? Do you have any idea what weight or specs the stock you were using had? One of the failures I experienced yesterday was with "Die Cuts with a View" textured cardstock (kept shredding), another was a no-name brand shimmery vellum cardstock which I could print OK, but it kept slipping on the carrier sheet - even after it was taped down well, but the blade seemed to be cutting OK at pink/30 thickness.
Thanks, KarenF

Hi, Karen.
I don't exactly know the weight of my card, but if this helps, I've just weighed it. A sheet of plain A4 weighed 16grms as opposed to a 12x12 sheet of Bazzill weighing 20grms. So, it's a fair weight. I was using my carrier sheet and found it plenty sticky enough. Just rub it down well. Mine has been washed a couple of times too. I'm sorry I can't be more help. These settings also cut me some great numbers using the Tango font and enlarged to fit the length of a landscape page.
Although I cut a lot of plain card, these settings have also cut textured card for me with no problems. Anyway, I hope I've been of some help.
Another option is to try with two of the cut O' rings as well as the plastic one. I know a lot of Wishblade users do this.
Lorraine.

Hello, I know this is an old thread but I only recently received my craft robo 2 and you all keep talking about something called an O ring? I didn't get an Oring with my robo, should I have done? I have the blade in a black holder a blue, pink and yellow attachment and the pen holder.

O rings are only needed with the original robo, you have no need of them with the newer version. If you are having a problem cutting thicker card it it better to cut a paste an image on top of itself and get your robo to cut twice at a lower pressure.
Lynne
It 's only needed for the robo with the blue lid ie the older model

Create & Craft card which they say is 250 gsm is cutting at the moment on my robo. 1 pass with pink cap just needs a little help here and there with the craft knife but I feel 2 passes on a lower setting would work better, but haven't tried it yet!
