Ooo, this is nice-our own team swap-yippee! OK, sorry to sound so dim (my excuse is that its getting late now and Im really tired and have back pain!), but just wanna make sure i get it! Is this correct, I look at whoever is my swapee's likes and dislikes. If i discover they like Basic Grey, fibres, brads etc, i decorate a diary, photo album, paper bag etc according to their likes, and they then have something to fill in! We dont fill it in for them (man i sound so thick!!).

sharonfruit
08-11-2005, 10:02 AM
Gina - you are perfectly right! All you need to do is have a look at your swappee's likes/dislikes and then decorate a journal (i.e. a spiral bound notebook/a hardback notebook etc). Wrap it up all nice for Chrimbo and then send it off! You don't need to fill it in at all.

So, who's wanting to take part?

1. Sharon
2. Gina
3. Charly
4. Heather
5. Faith
6. Kerry
7. Rhian
8. Joanne
9. Victoria

Can you do a paperbag book? Got one of those in a kit last week? How about a normal hardback notebook from WHSmiths. As its a journal, i'm assuming its meant to be for them to write in, so we dont have to decorate the pages! If not i'll get a sarabook or something! I think i'll give it a go, it'll definetly be a challenge for me as it'll be the first time i have done anything like this before-count me please in sharon.

sharonfruit
08-11-2005, 10:40 AM
I don't see why you couldn't do a paperbag book. You could add little notepad bits and stuff. It might be easier just decorating a normal hardback notebook though. You don't have to decorate the pages at all.

Looking back at those posts, i bet i look really dim (i am really!). But my philosophy is always ask and make sure, rather then not ask and not be sure LOL! Looking forward to this, hoping to pop out tomorrow to get a hardback journal. Hope you all have a great evening. i'm gonna log off now and check on my dinner (its roast potatoes, yorkshires, turkey, veggies, gravy and freshly baked rolls tonight-hmmm smells delish!!) what you guys having??

Charly

Charly
08-11-2005, 06:55 PM
 at you both asking questions is not dim "he who asks a question may be a fool for 5 minutes but he who doesn' ask will be a fool forever!" or something like that anyway! Better the ask then worry about getting it wrong!

KerryM
08-11-2005, 07:44 PM

Sorry to make you guys hungry!! It was lovely-but DD was screaming throughout it, so couldnt really enjoy! Bless she was shattered, tried to get her down for a nap twice today, but the tiredness finally caught up with her, and she needed to go to bed!

If we all lived closer it would've been nice to all meet up. maybe do some stash shopping, have lunch, etc. The ScrapGoddess Day out-now wouldnt that be lovely??

Charly
08-11-2005, 08:31 PM

OK, I have updated the list at the start of the thread. Can everyone PM me with their likes/dislikes as soon as possible. I want to get the names swapped out in the next few days!

Gina - don't worry about asking questions! Nobody thinks you are dim! You'd be dim if you didn't ask and just carried on blindly.

We had Cajun Style Chicken with rice last night for dinner. It was lovely :) We did our roast on Sunday when I had more time

It would be nice to have a meet-up one day! I'm sure you all must fancy a trip to Edinburgh

KerryM
09-11-2005, 10:46 AM

mummygina
09-11-2005, 06:53 PM
My likes and dislikes should be on page 40 sharon. I went to Edinburgh when i was 19 for a few days and i loved it!! It would be great to have a meet up in Edinburgh, maybe a long weekend, with crops, stash shopping, and lots of sight seeing-sounds lovely!!

Charly
09-11-2005, 06:57 PM
That would be fab!

Can't wait to find out who i am making for and get started on this!

One question Sharon when we send the present do we say who it is from on the tag or keep it a mystery?!

mummygina
09-11-2005, 06:59 PM
I cant wait too. popped in to a stationers today to find a journal, but didnt find anything appropriate. I'll have a look tomorrow when i go to town. Cant wait to give it a go, its exciting!!

mummygina
09-11-2005, 07:01 PM
Just seen my firework lo on the top of the page. Its so weird seeing them up there but also really nice

Charly
09-11-2005, 07:02 PM
I have never seen one of my lo's up the top but i imagine its a great but strange feeling!

I have got a little hardbacked lined book as was planning to use is that ok?

mummygina
09-11-2005, 07:04 PM
Charly when you upload your lo's do you upload them in the layouts category? If you upload them there, they appear at the top.

Charly
09-11-2005, 07:11 PM
Charly when you upload your lo's do you upload them in the layouts category? If you upload them there, they appear at the top.

Ah that would be why then i have always just uploaded them in Members Galleries or the weekly challenge gallery thanks for the tip Gina!

I have got a little hardbacked lined book as was planning to use is that ok?

That's what I was plannning on using as well - unless our scrapbook shops gets sarabinders in, in time.

I have never had my LO on the top either Charly, but reading Gina's comments I never load in the layouts category either.

Clay 36
10-11-2005, 08:47 AM
Ladies, be adventurous - I'm making one from scratch and so is Faith. I suspect Joanne will too but then we're all taking part in CJs and had to make them for them so I suppose we've had practice. They're really simple, honest.

mummygina
10-11-2005, 09:43 AM
When you mean make them from scratch do you mean the sarabinders? Totally new to these journal thingies

KerryM
10-11-2005, 09:57 AM
I am not sure if Heather means sarabinders...but they are really cool I watched a thingy on the web yesterday from HOTP wirh sarabinders and they were relaly fab and easy to decorate

mummygina
10-11-2005, 10:00 AM
I've not really be looking into them as its not something that appeals to me-yet!! If they are though what heather meant, I may have to pop to the sponsors shops and have a little browse and maybe purchase a couple (one of my swappee, and one for me!). so much for my stash diet LOL

sharonfruit
10-11-2005, 10:03 AM
Morning goddesses!

Joanne has asked if whoever sends to her can make a diary instead of a journal. Is that ok? It means waiting a little to see who you get but I plan on swapping out the names tonight. So, you don't have to wait too long!

Heather - I think I'll be cheating as well and buying a journal to decorate  I just don't have the materials to make one from scratch!

I don't think Heather means Sarabinders. We all made our CJs from scratch before from mountboard and cardstock. I think that's what she is referring to ;)

Sharon xx

KerryM
10-11-2005, 10:16 AM
Sorry Heather - I don't think I will be that creative and will cheat a littel bit and use a sarabinder.....

Gina - I had never heard of sarabinders until I got the newsletter with the film clip.....now of course I HAVE to have one. Stash diets never work. Just as you say "stash diet" you find loads of things you just have to have!!! :P

Sharon, if we do sarabinders it means that whoever gets it can use it for whatever they want, or should we put inserts in it before we send it out?

mummygina
10-11-2005, 10:23 AM
Sharon, as you will be probably be doing the swappee list today, i will wait before i buy anything for the swap. I certainly dont mind doing diaries or journals (as i have never done any before!), so you have an ok from me. HOTP do the sarabinders and sarabooks. I may end up doing that, or if i find a great hardback notebook or diary i may do that. Really dont know what to do-i'll have to wait and see who my swappee is, and their likes and dislikes.

Clay 36
10-11-2005, 10:25 AM
Oooh, what a stir I've caused  . Sorry gals. I take 2 sheets of mountboard (chipboard our buddies across the pond call it) and punch 3 or 4 holes in both down one edge. Cut pages the same and punch in the corresponding bits - add book rings and decorate. Easy, honest. Sharon, that's cheating. You know I've got loads of mountboard! :nono: To be completely frank I don't use a "journal" as such and would rather have something with blank pages in that I could "do" for someone if you get my drfit. Does that make sense?

mummygina
10-11-2005, 10:34 AM
Thanks for explaining that Heather. If I get you as a swappee I'll do blank pages for you. Can you buy mountboards easily. Never come across them?

KerryM
10-11-2005, 10:35 AM
I don't mind doing either a journal or a diary and agree with Gina best to wait and see who we get before buying anything.

I also agree with Heather and would rather have something with blank/lined paper juts as a note book as I don't use a journal or diary.

mummygina
10-11-2005, 10:44 AM
I think i'd prefer a journal myself (lined papers). I currently have a journal going for my dd, and have gotten really in to it-think it'd be nice to have one for me too! If I get you Kerry would you prefer blank too? So let me get this straight

Heather-blank pages
Kerry-blank pages
Joanne-diary

Anyone else as I'd prefer to do something that the swappee would use

Clay 36
10-11-2005, 10:47 AM
Gina, you can get sheets of A1 mountboard from any art supplies shop - if you've got a picture framer nearby, ask them what they do with the pieces they cut from the centre of the mounts (our local guy chucks it out!) and if you offer him a couple of £s he might give you a bag of mixed colours. Colour doesn't matter as we cover it with mulberry/scrapbooking papers anyway. It's good fun too. I then embellish the book - not telling you anymore, want it to be a surprise for the person who gets it :nono: .

KerryM
10-11-2005, 10:50 AM
I don't mind blank or lined pages...I will probably use mine for lists, notes to self, quotes I find etc, etc. I don't mind whoever gets me if they either post here or pm to ask questions.

Heather, are the mountboards easy to put holes in?? Now you have started something :P

I think the nice thing about the sarabinders is that you can buy different inserts to go in them, so can be lined, blank, diary, envelopes etc etc - OK in case you had not noticed I really think these are great inventions :P

Clay 36
10-11-2005, 10:50 AM
Will check with Faith and get back to you. Thanks.

mummygina
10-11-2005, 10:54 AM
I think I'm gonna go with the sarabinders. Like Kerry says you can get inserts and things for them. Mountboards sound interesting too though. You really started something now Heather LOL

Clay 36
10-11-2005, 10:57 AM
If you've got access to an office hole punch - a single hole one is better - they punch right through it and I just cut the papers to size. Plain paper/cardstock or patterned stuff, vellum, if it's a journal you could buy a cheap A4 binder pad and cut that to size - whatever you need. I haven't actually seen a Sara Book in the flesh but I know people who have  . Bit like the Yeti I suppose!

KerryM
10-11-2005, 10:59 AM
You have definately started something Heather :D - I would like to try it but don't think I will try it out for the first time on my swapee

Charly
10-11-2005, 10:59 AM
Hey everyone what a lot of chatter to catch up on!

I have a small lined book i was going to use but will wait and see who my swappe is and what they would like personally i would be more then happy with a lined noted book but would really love a sarabinder i think they are fab too kerry! :P

Can't wait to find out who i am making for tonight!

mummygina
10-11-2005, 11:01 AM
I agree Kerry. I think i'll try the mountboard another time, as its a pressie i'm gonna go for the sara binder. I'll try your way in the new year Heather. Is that what you use to do a CJ?

Charly
10-11-2005, 11:05 AM
You can make your own like heather explained for a cj or what many people is from good old HOTP again is a sarabook which is basically what heather makes but the mount board and pages are already cut to size with holes punhced!

Does anyone know where you can get sarabinders? the only place i have come across so far is Canny Crafts

Clay 36
10-11-2005, 11:06 AM
Yes. I'm taking part in 2 CJs - a UKS one and one between a group of friends here in Edinburgh. I made both my CJs - my rule of thumb is that if I'd like to get it, then it's ok to give it. Faith made hers and if my kiddo can do it then you ladies can too - don't be afraid. Have a wee bash at making one that you can fill with photos and give to a family member if you're really scared or make a mini Book of Me that'll hold things you might not want to put in a "public" one. Go on, you know you want to :P

mummygina
10-11-2005, 11:09 AM
Well, i will give it a go definetly. My list now includes: sarabinders, mountboard, lunch pails, and maybe a paint tin. OMG-hubby is gonna flip!!

KerryM
10-11-2005, 11:13 AM
I have only seen the sarabinders at Canny Crafts, but our local shop is getting them in and I will look at the other craft shop on the way to hobbycraft as they stock some HOTP stuff - maybe I will find something at hobbycraft but I doubt it - a few laides from our crop have been and said the selection was limited and the shop is very hot!!

Charly
10-11-2005, 11:21 AM
How do you punch the holes in yours heather? we have tons of mount board but it is all very thick!

 Gina your list is getting longer and longer just like mine!

Kerry i hope you do find a good selection at hobbycraft!

Clay 36
10-11-2005, 11:59 AM
A single hole office punch or if you have a punch for leather - different sized holes or these ones you can get in the £1 shops - they have big eyelets with them too but are not safe for scrapbooking - they tarnish quickly but the punch would do for this kind of thing and it's only £1.

mummygina
10-11-2005, 12:29 PM
 Gina your list is getting longer and longer just like mine!

Kerry i hope you do find a good selection at hobbycraft!

 And thats only a small bit of my list Charly. my xmas wishlist is so huge, its starting to look like a book!!

Hope you have a great time at Hobbycraft Kerry, and maybe find some sarabooks!

Charly
10-11-2005, 12:42 PM
Gina i know what you mean about the wish list mine is huge!

Have been checking out the sarabinders on canny crafts and they are on sale which is a bonus! having looked i now want to have a go so once i know who i am making mine for i may get one for them and one for me!

mummygina
10-11-2005, 12:44 PM
Thats great news that they are on offer. better have a look too! One for me, and one for my swappee (ooo that rhymes!)

KerryM
10-11-2005, 06:27 PM
oh well no sarabinders at Hobbycraft, nice to have another craft shop to go to but I would not make a special trip again to go there. ;) no sarabinders at the otherr craft shop either so Canny's to the rescue once again. I am also going to order 2 if there are any left, so hope my swappee is happy with that.....

Charly
10-11-2005, 06:31 PM
I know i would be Kerry i may order one for my swapee and a square one for me to put all my photo cd's in!

Looking forward to finding out who i am making for later tonight!

Sharon

Are we allowed to contact the person we are making a journal for? Or is it a Christmas secret.....

Charly
10-11-2005, 11:57 PM
I think it is a secret in which case can everyone post here to say what they would prefer to get eg. would they like a jounral, note book, diray, sarabinder?

Just thought it would help as i know some people have said they wouldn't use a journal

mummygina
11-11-2005, 12:26 AM
OK, well i just got my swappee. I'd like a journal please with lined paper, i'm not into diaries. Thank you goddesses.

KerryM
11-11-2005, 07:42 AM
I don't mind lined paper or blank paper, not into paper diaries either

sharonfruit
11-11-2005, 10:17 AM
I'd rather it was kept a secret until we've all opened our pressies and then all can be revealed ;)

I don't really mind what I get. Although, I do have a diary already!

Sharon xx

KerryM
11-11-2005, 10:30 AM
No problem Sharon - we will stick to the rules :D I assume we will enclose a note with the journal or whatever to let the person know who it is from.....

sharonfruit
11-11-2005, 01:26 PM
You can do if you wish, or you can be evil and keep them guessing until you post here ;)

Sharon xx

11-11-2005, 03:10 PM
That is evil, Sharon. i like it :D

KerryM
11-11-2005, 04:06 PM
I like that idea too Sharon :D

Charly
11-11-2005, 04:30 PM
Perhaps after xmas we could post a pic of the one we have recieved and ask who made it?!

mummygina
11-11-2005, 04:40 PM
I'm gonna be really evil and not tell anyone-EVER!!! LOL

Only kidding. I'm thinking about making a xmas card to enclose in the gift (this way i bump up team goddesses pts a little, as well as spread a little xmas cheer!)

Charly
11-11-2005, 04:42 PM
Thats a nice idea Gina providing i managed to make even one xmas card i just can't get in to it!

KerryM
11-11-2005, 04:44 PM

That's a good idea.... :D

sharonfruit
11-11-2005, 04:44 PM
Gina - I might put a chrimbo card in with it too. That's if I ever get them made. Maybe get a start this weekend!

I'd like everyone to post a pic of the pressie they receive if possible! Then we can admire everyone's good work :)

Sharon xx

Edd
11-11-2005, 04:50 PM
Posting a picture is a nice idea.

So is putting a card in - the thought will be there in mine, possibly not the fact LOL.

I did think of making all the team ornaments - but I think that might be over-ambitious. Maybe next year (especially if I start on Xmas day)

KerryM
11-11-2005, 05:01 PM
putting a card in is a nice idea - but I agree with Rhian mine will prbably be there in thought and not in fact..although I may have a few spare from the ones I have already made

mummygina
11-11-2005, 05:05 PM
Sharon, i'll be happy to post a piccie. That reminds me i have to pm you!

Charly
11-11-2005, 05:05 PM
I will try and out a card in mine but the rate i am going no one will be getting cards from me!

I think it would be nice to post pics for all to see if we can

I haven't even brought the stuff for mine yet! Must have a look online soon and see what i can find!

KerryM
13-11-2005, 09:37 PM
quick question - how do you get your likes and dislikes to link to the correct page without showing the whole address if you know what I mean....my link shows the whole address instead of just being able to click on likes and dislikes and being taken to the page.

Charly
13-11-2005, 09:57 PM
you need to put the link like this [*url=the link]My Likes & Dislikes[*/url]
but without the stars and obviously put your link where it says your link also if you want to be really fancy before you copy the link go to your post and click the post number in the top right hand corner of your post it it written like #69 (for example) then copy the link from the page that opens then when people click the link it will take them to your post only

Hope that makes sense!

KerryM
14-11-2005, 09:20 AM
Thanks Charly - think I have got it sorted now :)

I loved it so much that i too am gonna re-vamp a hardback notebook i got recently. It'll be much easier (hopefully), as its just altering it, and not starting from scratch as I did for my swappee. Great fun though starting from scratch, as it gives you an immense sense of achievement!

I'm glad you've all enjoyed doing the swap :) I've enjoyed it too and I hope my swappee likes their pressie.

I think another advantage of this swap was that we did it as a team for our team members. I cant wait for the next team swap (hope they'll be one) in the new year!

I agree Gina it will be great to see one of my team members work and nice to open something from the 'team' on chirstmas day coz although it is made by one member of the team i will feel like i am opening a present from you all!

I hope there are lots more team things like this next year :D

Totally agree Charly. Its also a great opportunity for us to try out new things. I dont thing i would've tried to do a journal, and certainly not one from scratch. Cant wait to see what other things i can try to do for the first time. So here's to the new year and to trying new scrap related challenges!

Charly

So here's to the new year and to trying new scrap related challenges!

Sounds good to me! actually i was thinking the other day it would be good to have a challenge once a month or something like that where its something other then lo's like altered things etc which we could get points as an encouragment for people to try new things!

mummygina
15-12-2005, 09:59 PM
Sounds like a great idea Charly. I think that would be really interesting!

Charly
15-12-2005, 10:06 PM
I just think it seems a shame that we can't get any points for anything other then lo's & mini books etc and i thought it would be a good way to encourage people to try something completely different!

mummygina
15-12-2005, 10:18 PM
I didnt know you couldnt get pts for other things other than lo's. Hopefully that will change soon.

Morning goddesses. Have a confession to make. I've opened mine - it came the weekend of my birthday and I mistook it for my Nov/Dec birthday swap and since there was no card and no mention of Christmas on the tag I ripped it open - sorry  . Then when my birthday swap arrived I became totally confused and thought someone had RAKed me this wonderful and beautifully made note book.

Sharon put me right. So mine is open and I've shown it to my family who also think it's beautiful and my Mum knits but that's all and she was very impressed at how it looks and how much work must have gone into it. Thank you very much my Secret Santa. I LOVE IT!

Sharon, your journal is gorgeous! Unfortunately i cannot take credit for it Charly. I'm guessing that the use of Basic Grey monograms influenced your decision somewhat (as you all probably know i LOVE BG!!). I'll take a guess that either Heather or Faith made it. Whoever made it should be very proud, its beautiful!

Once everyone has posted about their journal, I'll give you a trader rating (positive of course). I'll need someone to do the same for me, so if you want to volunteer feel free :)

I havent got a clue about how the trader/swap rating thing works sharon. cant someone enlighten me?

sharonfruit
05-01-2006, 04:23 PM
Gina - trader ratings are quite complicated until you do it once or twice.

Basically, you click on the blue "trader rating" number under someone's name that you want to rate. On the next page that opens, there is all that person's feedback and a link to submit feedback for them. You then get the option to make comments and rate the person.

I hope that makes sense :)

Sharon xx

Charly

Belated Happy New Year ladies! Confession time: when we got the names to make the journals we decided to both work on both of the journals so Faith and I made Charly and Gina's. Glad you both like them.

Whoever made mine, I absolutely adore it. Can you please "confess" so I can give you feedback.

Joanne made Faith's and she loves it to bits. Will try and get photos taken so you can all see them.

Thanks Kerry, will post you trader feedback straight away.

Glad you like them Charly/Gina. Charly, you could maybe use it for a CJ - that's how I make mine for sending off. It's also why I didn't do more in the way of decoration so you could "tailor" it to whatever your subject was.

Charly
10-01-2006, 01:13 PM
Thats good thinking Heather i must admit i did like the fact that it was reasonably plain so that i could decorated it to fit it with however i decided to use it!

Are we doing trader ratings for each other as well as Sharon's or is just Sharon doing it? and is everyone happy for me to do Sharon's trader rating?

sharonfruit
10-01-2006, 01:31 PM
I don't mind really. I was going to give everyone their trader ratings to ensure that you all got one. However, if people want to give their swappee one then that's fine. Just let me know you've done it, so I don't duplicate ;)

It's well deserved Kerry! You need to get into some swaps - they're great fun but you really need to be quick as they fill up so quickly! Am thinking about hosting one but not sure what. Might do a ribbon one - that was great fun and got loads of very different but very nice ribbons back.

Okay, sorry it's taken so long, but unfortunately my laptop has died so it will be a while before i can upload my photo.
