Hi everyone! I'm here and ready to start PMing everyone with details of who they will post the CJ to...

Hope everyone's ok and excited! I'm going out lunchtime to try and buy a book to make the CJ out of :D

stardust
09-11-2005, 12:06 PM
I am making mine out of mount board (when it arrives from Ebay). I spent ages trawling the shops for something suitable last time I did a CJ and came back with nothing so decided this time that I would get the mount board, cover it, add book rings (need to buy those too ) and voila, hopefully I should have a cheapish book. It also means I can spend a bit more on papers to cover it.

Rosani
09-11-2005, 12:19 PM
I've used Pink Pig books in the past, which are great as they have a nice tough cover, sturdy pages and the spiral can be removed if you wish and replaced with bookrings or the spiral again, once you punch through the papers that cover the front. They are also cheapish and come in various sizes.

I usually leave all the pages in mine, just in case someone needs to use more than one and when I get the CJ back, take all the redundant pages out and voila! Nice roomy CJ.

I did play with the idea of making my own but I'm just not good at it. I really suck. :(

stardust
09-11-2005, 12:26 PM
Is the spiral easy enough to take out and put back in again?

I subscribe to Paper Dillies which is a mini book kit from the States and this time it is a spiral bound chipboard book. I haven't done it before and don't want to make a mess.

Rosani
09-11-2005, 12:31 PM
It depends on the sturdiness of the spiral - some spirals have little "hooks" on the ends which you'll have to straighten out before removing them, then re-curl when you've re-inserted them.

Does it make sense?

If the spiral is long enough, and the curly bit tight, you could cut it off, remove it, then re-curl a bit at the end. I used to do this with my notebooks back in school!

If you want to see what Pink Pig books look like, Magiclady sells them on www.craftmagicuk.co.uk (she's a sponsor)

I'm going to use a pink pig book as well as I really like them. I can't believ how organised you lot are already! I've still mulling what I'm going to do with mine!

Rosani
09-11-2005, 04:38 PM
All I know is that it will be a Pink Pig book - what that will look like is to be decided another day! :D

stardust
09-11-2005, 05:43 PM
Me too. I've just been looking at some Daisy D papers and I'm pretty sure that's what I will be covering mine in but there is so much choice. I love the wild west ones they have but I also love the playground ones and the fire engines, trains, spacemen. I love them all.

I'm looking forward to seeing these Pink Pig books.

Ok ladies - as MOB group 3 fizzled out and we have one space left I've decided to make it available. But I have to do this fairly and so will post an invite later this morning on the community thread and will then accept the first reply I get.

So if you know anyone that wants in - let them know!

We've unfortunately had hummingbird drop out but I have had two requests to join. I'm hoping to hear from them soon to confirm so it sounds like we're up to 10 again!!

I'll also update those of you who will now be sending to someone else - at the moment I think it will just be annadomini as I'll make sure that the other change is for me, to keep it easy.

See ya later!

Ladies: we have another new member, ifa, who hopefully will come and say hello soon so let's give her a nice MOB2 welcome!

Mollymoo: have you had any thoughts on your theme? I'm not rushing you, I'm just checking that I haven't missed something, with so many days I've missed... let me know.

Hope everyone's ok. I haven't received my journals yet but I have lots to do before I can even think about starting so well done to those of you that have made a start!

Hello everyone.

This is Ifa. I have just joined your group.

I am still thinking of a suitable theme...give me a couple of days, okay?

I am so excited. I haven't done a CJ before but have read a few articles and magazines...sounds good fun! I am not sure yet whether to make a book or just buy one.

By way of introduction, I have two boys.

Rosani

Hi ifa and welcome! If you have any questions or anything don't be afraid to ask... I'm sure someone will know.

I don't think we've all introduced each other properly, did we? Well, just in case anyone doesn't know I'm Claudia (your hostess), originally from Mexico but now live in lovely Milton Keynes and I have just the one son who just turned two. I work full time (or something like it, when I'm not on UKS) and have been scrapping for ages. Like 10 years or something.

(PS. Sarah - hiiiiiii! I'll make sure this lot replace the vodka... honestly!)

I am still undecided about pink pig or making my own.

If I make my own, how thick should the paper for pages be ? How many pages should I put in ?

I am concern about it being too heavy.

Which pink pigs are you all getting...is it the cartridge drawing books ? These have 160gsm papers in it. How many pages do you get in the book ?

Still thinking...

HI - no still not thought of a theme, well truth be told not thought about thinking about it, had rather a hectic week As craftymum1971 will be able to tell you.

I am Nikki and live near nottingham, I have a 4 year old boy and an 18 m daughter. I just love doing CJs, mostly because of the inspiration I get from seing other people's work - however I am a fretter and will worry that my entry is not good enough, so I apologise for that now,

Ifa, I am probably going to make my own as I have plenty of mount board to make covers and I love the flexability in size that making your own gives you

Claudia I hope any of your familiy still in Mexico were not affected by the recent extreme weather

Sarah, cant voucher for the hoover - I changed the bags before we left and put it under the stairs

lol, that's why I bought a notebook to use as a sketchbook. I have had some brilliant ideas, usually in the middle of town, and totally forgotten them by the time I get home. Now I can scribble them into the notebook so I don't foget, though deciphering one's done on the bus with TJ on my knee can be fun sometimes lol.

your entry should be the first entry in the book.

Generally, people put in a little introduction, explaining the theme, expressing any requests (e.g. please use acid and lignin free materials etc.). Then their entry

Hi everyone how's it going? Mollymoo - any thoughts on the old theme? And ifa? No pressure guys, there is still time but don't forget to have a think.

My pink pigs haven't turned up yet so not started on the CJ yet. However, I'm making the most of the time by completing other projects and swaps so that I'm good and ready by the time we start. PLUS there's all those Christmas cards.... ugh. I hate doing those.

ifa
23-11-2005, 11:43 AM
Hi Claudia. I am going for Angels or Demon. My book is finished but I still have to do the layout...I am going to try to do this before end of term.

Now question is, are the dates listed the dates by which the journal must arrive at their next destination ? What with christmas post, should we post early or later ? What do people think ?

Rosani
23-11-2005, 11:53 AM
The dates listed are the dates when you post the CJ on to the next person - the one whose address I PMd to you. We normally keep track of who sent what/when on this thread anyway! Dates are bound to slip here and there but if we keep to the posting dates best we can, then we all have 3 weeks to work on it before we pass it on.

Christmas post shouldn't affect us as we start on 9 Jan - that's the first date and you will be posting your completed (by you) CJ on to the next person. Does that make sense?

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I've been slacking and haven't posted on here for ages - and only the once! :D

I haven't started my CJ yet (I've been too busy making Christmas cards) but I have bought a book .. and some papers ... and I have a vague idea of what I'm going to do with them. I just need to get on with it!

I only have the one boy. He's 14 and (coincidentally) aspires to be a palaeontologist! He's been fossilising things under his bed for years. ;)

My DD is 13 and I don't even venture that far. Her bedroom stinks. If she doesn't bring it downstairs it doesn't get washed. She had a tantrum a few weeks ago because I hadn't ironed her school trousers. Well I hadn't ironed them because I hadn't washed them as they were still in her bedroom. She came downstairs a few minutes later asking where the Febreeze was with a sorry look on her face.

I have the opposite problem with my DD. She'll wear something for 5 minutes .. change.. and then put her hardly worn clothes in the wash!! I'm forever pulling them out and hanging them back in her wardrobe!! (that's if they haven't been contaminated by being sat on DS's socks!)

My youngest 2 have a cracking idea for tidying up. When they are deciding what to wear everything gets thrown on the floor, then when they are told to pick it all up they'll throw it in the washing basket, but mixed up with the stuff they find under the bunk bed! urgh!

I have 3 boys too who are 10, 7 and 22 months and every one of them (even the littlest) can manage to put their dirty clothes in the washing basket. They also tidy up after themselves. It may be to do with the fact that if they don't they can't get into bed as their room is so small. Lots more teenage years in front of us

FAB theme Nikki, Hope you go with that one!!

25-11-2005, 01:28 PM
Well - I've just received my Pink Pigs in the mail and so can start work on my CJ! I thought I'd give you all a challenge and have ordered a small book: it's about 4x4 inches square so TINY. But I do like little things and I've worked on teensy weensy CJs before and found them a complete challenge but I love the final result.

So get prepared for the itty bitty challenge! :D

Mollymoo
25-11-2005, 02:18 PM
Claudia - I think I will go with the theme (and I promise I will try not to change my mind!)

Rosani
25-11-2005, 02:26 PM
Brilliant, thanks!

I've updated the first page to show all our themes but just to recap here they are:
Rosani (Claudia) - things boys say
stardust (Kerry) - quotes about boys
craftymum1971 (Jackie) - being you
Rhian (Rhian) - boys toys
Mollymoo (Nikki) - Angels with dirty faces
annadomini (Anna)- boy o boy! (all about mischief)
lizh (Liz) - things I love about boys
deirdre (Deirdre) - joy of boys
jem (Jan) - I wanna be
ifa - Angels or demons?

They all sound fantastic and I can't wait to get started! If there are any changes let me know ASAP so that I can log the change. We still have some time before we start, anyway...

Hello everyone
thought it was about time I posted on this thread, I've been up to my eyeballs in work for the last few weeks so have struggled to even post on my teams thread.
I'm hoping to start my CJ this weekend at a crop.
I have one son who is now 23, has finished at university but still thinks he is a student - living rent free at home, coming in at all hours etc.
I think he is probably taking a gap year!!!!!!!!!!
his bedroom is just as bad as teenagers - I despair of him ever becoming a human being

Mollymoo
29-11-2005, 10:16 AM
well I have covered my CJ - blue of course. There is now an idea for a cover sitting on it to see if I like it. Having done it last night and been to look at it again this morning - I quite like it but something is missing....I have a few ideas of what I was to do for my entry but the colour cartridge in our printer has run out and DH doesnt want to get a new one until after Christmas!!!!!!

annadomini
29-11-2005, 10:55 AM
Isn't that just always the way? My black cartridge ran out yesterday when I was trying to print photos for a CJ entry.

I haven't started my CJ yet. At this rate, it's going to be a bit of a last minute job..

but it will be done on time. I promise! :D

Rosani
29-11-2005, 10:57 AM
I *never* print out photos at home - or anything. I hardly use my PC for scrapbooking as I'm around it all day and can't face it after hours.

Am I strange??

annadomini
29-11-2005, 11:18 AM
I suspect that I'm probably the strange one for printing out all my photos at home when no doubt it'd be cheaper to get them done on the High Street! :D

Rosani
29-11-2005, 11:22 AM
Hmmmm, not sure! From what I've gathered reading around on UKS and eavesdropping on my crops, it seems the PC is a huge tool for lots of scrapbookers - just not me. But I'm happy that way :D

Mollymoo
29-11-2005, 10:49 PM
I dont use it a lot, really - the odd title (when my LOs get titles!). I do find I use it more for CJs if I want a small photo.

But I am really interested in the fact you dont use your PC for printing photos - I just really struggle with the 'limitation' of 6x4 - most sketches and things use several sizes on the one LO, how do you cope with that?

Jem
30-11-2005, 01:35 AM
I use my computer for a lot of scrapping, even if it's just inspiration from the gallery. I couldn't manage without my photostudio either, and with my handwriting fonts are a must!

Rosani
30-11-2005, 09:40 AM

I find that 6x4 is a great size for everything - I do crop some photos manually if they have a busy background or whatever but generally stick to 6x4. I only use sketches as initial inspiration (if at all) and if I need a bigger photo for one particular LO then I'll have that printed bigger. I can also use optical illusions and use mats to make photos seem larger or smaller.

I like using lots of photos on LOs so the 6x4 size means I can do that! I know lots of sketches and LOs in mags only use one photo - I do that soooo rarely.

deirdre
30-11-2005, 10:17 AM
I do a bit of both with my photo printing. If I need a big photo or lots of small ones I do them at home otherwise I get them printed. Not started my CJ yet either!

ifa
30-11-2005, 10:30 AM
I am like Claudia...I am on the computer all day, I can't face doing LO on the computer too.

But recently I discovered printing on twill and mocking up layout in PaintShop.

Mollymoo
30-11-2005, 03:04 PM
Mmm interesting - I struggle to put more than one 6x4 on a SLO. Do you sketch out beforehand to make sure everything will fit?

Rosani
30-11-2005, 03:11 PM
More of a haphazard approach than sketches I'm afraid: I move everything around until it fits and looks good. I may or may not do this after I've decided what the background looks like... there's some examples in my gallery.

As I said, very scatty. Works for me though. Although lately I've been producing some really crappy LOs, good enough but not brilliant if you know what I mean. Maybe I *should* start using sketches more than I do at the moment or maybe some different embellishments or something. I feel like I'm having scrappers' block but without the lack of finished LOs.

Ooooh, it's gone quiet here all of a sudden... is that because everyone is busily working on their CJs?? :D

I started mine at last - covered the book and started on the welcome page. I still don't know what I want to do for my own entry but we still have about a month before first posting so plenty of time. How's everyone getting on? Busy with all the Christmas preparations?

WELL - I have a crop tonight and my main project is to finish this CJ! I already know (roughly) what I'm doing but I just gotta get down and DO IT. So tonight's the night...

I am normally not this bad but it's just that the whole Christmas thing added to my eye infection and general evening business just makes me have no time. I really want to sit down and enjoy it so maybe my search for the perfect set of circumstances has meant that it hasn't happened. When is life so perfect anyway??

Hello ladies - did you have nice holidays? Mine was nice enough, thanks but in a way kinda glad that it is all over. I get so bored over Xmas.

Anyway, my CJ is practically finished and is now ready for first posting. Indeed it is on the 9th Jan which is now only a couple of weeks away. I'm sure that once the New Year's Celebrations are over then things will slow down a bit and I can get some scrapping time again.

Claudia, have you been to the new Ikea ? We were in Milton Keynes this week skiing and saw the signs. I just wondered what it is like.

I was getting bored myself this christmas. I can't just go off and do my own thing because kinda felt that I should be doing something with the family.

My CJ is done and ready to go. I have printed loads of address lables for Stardust too.

Ifa

annadomini
28-12-2005, 09:47 PM
I noticed the signs for the new Ikea too Ifa but I thought I'd wait a few weeks before risking a visit. No doubt it'll be absolutely heaving and there's nothing more worse than trying to shop in a thronging crowd ... it put's me off spending any money! ;)

I'm afraid I haven't even started my CJ yet. Am starting to have a minor panic.

Rosani
29-12-2005, 09:49 AM
Yup - IKEA is apparently mobbed at the moment. I haven't dared visit it (or the ASDA next door either) but I guess it should calm down next week when everyone is back at work. I may chance a visit after work or maybe even during my lunch break. It's great to have an IKEA in our backyard!

At the best of times all IKEAs are a nightmare so what with this being a new one and this is the top shopping season, I'd recommend postponing visits until later. They kept saying on local radio that the area was traffic chaos and there even was park and ride from the Bowl (not far).

So instead of coming to IKEA work on your CJs instead girls!! Only 12 days to go before first posting date...

I have sent it recorded. Is anyone else doing recorded ?

stardust
09-01-2006, 11:00 AM
I am sending it recorded Ifa for peace of mind. I had a bad experience with my very first CJ. The person I sent it to disappeared from UK Scrappers and I have no idea whether she kept my CJ or it didn't arrive so now everything I send goes recorded.

Rosani
09-01-2006, 11:04 AM
Ideally it should be recorded - but of course I didn't set a very good example and sent mine out 2nd class AND not recorded. But at least if it gets lost it is only mine and I can re-do it. I shall do recorded from now on!

Bad CJ experiences are what prompted me to get all your telephone numbers too - just in case! I know life sometimes gets in the way but if ever any of you feel that you can't make a deadline just let me/us know and we can work around it. I'm sure this will come up as holidays get closer.

Mollymoo

just as long as everyone is aware there isnt much difference between 1st class with proof of postage and recorded delivery. Your CJ still travels with the normal post it just gets signed for at the end, so if it is lost in transit (so to speak) the PO has no way of actually tracking it.

stardust
09-01-2006, 01:15 PM

Success!! I phoned Jan and she's fine except that she gets headaches if she sits by the PC - hence the lack of posting. But she's ok to do scrapping and still happy to be in our CJ. She'll probably communicate mostly through me as that's easier for her.

Anna: She did ask me to let you know that she'll hopefully be posting to you tomorrow but, if you want to get started, it's a Pink Pig 8x8 book (but with actual "working space" of 8x7.5 allowing for spiral) and the theme is I wanna be...

Hi Ladies
Sorry to cause a panic ladies. Claudia's call made me face the demon (1000 emails to plough through, and more than 30 minutes at a time in front of the computer is giving me migraines). Your CJ hasn't arrived yet Claudia, but I'm going to the sorting office in the morning to collect a RD package so I'll get them to search whilst I'm there. Anna, I'm really sorry to hold you up, although my CJ was all decorated, the internal pages weren't finished as I was waiting for the printer to be fixed, it's still not fixed from the beginning of December though so the intro and sign in pages are still half finished, it should be in the post tomorrow hopefully, Tuesday at the very latest, it depends on how many times I have to re do my handwriting.

Once again I'm really sorry to hold things up and not keep in touch, I have Claudias phone number now though so I can send her Texts if I can't handle the computer.

Not to worry -you haven't been holding me up. DD's been ill, so I wouldn't have had much chance to get on with your CJ in any case. I'll look out for it mid week. :)

Hi Sarah.

I'm really glad we have a 3 week turnaround with this one. I haven't had a minute to myself since I received Ifa's CJ so will be dedicating time to it next week.

I have just got round to it as I had another one that had to go earlier - and my entry is now nearly finished.

But I am also pretty glad it has a 3 week turnaround... life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes ;)

Definitely Claudia. My youngest was 2 yesterday and everything seems to have revolved around finding presents. Toys R Us were shut nationwide on monday for stocktaking so I'm really glad we weren't relying on it being open. It is really tricky having 2 older boys aswell (10 and 7) because we have most things such as Thomas, Bob The Builder etc. We ended up with a Balamory bike and we got some great bargains from Argos in their sale. I think it is perhaps an upside to having a January birthday in that we can buy things after christmas in the sales. The bike was £19.96 reduced from £30 from Asda.

Bless him though he keeps saying Santa has been.

Bless him!! I hadn't thought about the advantages of a January birthday - great bargains.

Mind you - if we didn't have a life whatever would we scrap/write on our CJs??

Food for thought...

Hi Ladies
I'm really sorry for holding Anna up but I've finished Claudia's CJ (just done finishing touch) and both of them will be in the post tomorrow special delivery. Mine still isn't quite done but I've left a couple of pages blank and I'll pop the pages in when I get it back, I need to get some photo's printed and forgot the CD when I went to town last week, sometimes living in the country isn't all it's cracked up to be, the local shops leave a lot to be desired, and so does the bus service but thats a whole other story, lol. I'm away at the end of the month but there will be someone here to pick up my next CJ and I'll have plenty of time to get that entry done. Hopefully I've got my migraines sorted out now :::touching wood::: so I should be able to get online a bit more.

I hope everyone is feeling inspired.

You beat me to it Jem!

I was going to say that I had a text from Jem during the weekend... and you know the rest.

I am having a problem with my home PC at the moment and NO INTERNET ACCESS so I couldn't get online until coming to work today... hence the delay. I am really not looking forward to having to fix my PC but DH is useless at that sort of thing so if I want it done it will have to be me <sigh>

Anyway, at least I can get online at work!

Crikey Anna, that was fast, Claudia's takes a lot of thought, I couldn't believe how much/hard such a small page could make you think, but it was fun doing it.

Rosani
26-01-2006, 09:39 AM
WOW!!

Anna you sure are super fast!

I thought my little CJ would pose a challenge - to be honest I got the idea from another CJ where one of them was even smaller than mine and I really liked the challenge. So plan tiny girls!! The good thing though is that you can do as many double spreads as you like...

ifa
26-01-2006, 09:46 AM
Claudia, how small is small ? Smaller than 4x4 ?

annadomini
26-01-2006, 09:46 AM
Good Morning :)
It's not the size that troubles me Claudia. It's more the fact that DS never says anything other than 'Hrrmph' or 'Uh..uhrr'! ;)

Rosani
26-01-2006, 09:49 AM
It is 4x4 in total but the actual "working" area is a bit smaller due to the spiral binding.

Anna - I know what you mean. My little one doesn't say much either and once I chose my theme I thought "now why did I choose that?"

As I've always said, themes are there for guidance but it is YOUR interpretation of the theme that makes it fun. you could always go sideways or in a different direction with my theme as a starting point!!

 Nice Anna, All I get from Lew is 'I'm not telling you!' if I ask him how he got on at school, If it's about Trains He never shuts up! Can't imagine where he gets that from!

I know what you mean Jax - so when J asks me where I have been I say that I will tell him what I have done if he will tell me what he has done - something for something. Occasionally it works  :D

gosh - I'd never thought of that!

But also bear in mind that the Post Office changed rates sometime not long ago so perhaps the increase was due to that more than the added weight!

Yup - a challenge AND saves postage costs: what more could you ask for in a CJ!!

Will this be the start of the new all-flat, all-lightweight CJ entries trend?? Discuss!
