Hi Linda
Thanks for adopting me!!
I am totally new to all this, so hopefully you can bear with me whilst I muddle through.
My first Q is how do I return to thread I have previously posted on (ie this one!!) without having to search around. Other forums I use have a section where you can see all the previous posts you have made and so can quickly and easily pick up the thread?
I stumbled across Scrapbooking in another forum I am a member of (a parenting forum btw) and thought it looked interesting, asked a few questions and got pointed in this direction.
I must admit I initially found myself thinking why all the special products, such as albums (what happened to the good old scrapbook?!), but today I have found a shop locally that sells scrapbooking materials and I'm sold on it all now - there was some very lovely stuff.
It helped to see the stuff in the 'flesh' to help me understand it. So is the idea to get a piece of 12"x12" card and build your montage on that, which is then slid into the sleeve of the album?
Are there any 'rules' as to how to create your layouts? I've picked up on the acid free thing, although someone else has said to me that she doesn't worry too much about it. What about adhesives for sticking paper, pictures and embelishments (sp?)? Any recommendations?
Most of my pictures will be digital photos, although I do have a few 'proper' photos - what considerations do I need to make with regards to them?
Can you suggest a starter pack I can get together? Things I really do need. I've seen a cutting mat, with craft knife and metal rule that I've put on my Christmas list? As well as a couple of starter books? What else could I really do with having? I've also seen a scrapbook kit by Papermania, which seemed expensive at £29.99, but includes fabric photo album, handmade and mulberry papers with matching tags, stickers, various brads, decorative edged scissors and an acid free Stick It! glue stick. Would that be worth getting as a starting point?
I'm going to stop here, as I'm going on and on and on... And I really don't want to scare you off before we've even 'met'.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Danu :D
Hi do you want to get up to your 10 posts I can stay for a bit. Linda

You can subscribe to threads so you will know when someone has replied to it. Usually you are subscribed as soon as you post a reply unless you unsubscribe by mistake.
At the top you will see User cp if you click on this you will see which threads you have replied on.

I must admit I use pritt and double sided tape a lot but many like things like herma dispensers I will find some links for you

Some like to keep things acid free when working with photos I tend to use a digital camera and I keep copies on cd.

If you look in the marketplace you might get some bargains as a lot of people sell things they outgrow

Sorry for the quietness Linda. I've finally had time to download Adobe and read the newbie pack. I need to find some time to read the links you sent me.
And then I need to buy some stuff to get started, but I'm a bit boggled as to what to buy and what not to buy iykwim? Any tips on a basic kit (doesn't have to be a ready made kit, but just things I can buy to get me started)?
And maybe some ideas to get me started?

OK I think I'm ready to get started now, as I've received a scrapbooking starter kit and a book for Christmas :D
I had to make Christmas cards to take to the family on Tuesday, so in effect have created my first layout (using the kids craft stuff as I don't want to use my new stuff, saving that for an album).
I'm quite pleased with it, so I hope it's OK to show it off...

Any tips? Have I got the right idea?

It is lovely is it A4 :)
It's A5 (A4 card folded in half).
Danu :)
You will be able to put them in a photo album 6x4 then :)
Most of the los in the gallery are square ie 6x6 8x8 or 12x12
Some people do A4
A5 is good too but most of the albums you can buy are the square ones.
You could make your own album if you need any help just ask :)
Are you planning a few in this size ie how are you planning to store them?
You can enhance your photos by layering them on a piece of contrasting card just slightly bigger than the photo ie it is called layering you can do a few layers :)

I'm not planning to make any more this size, this is a card (in fact I made 4 exactly the same) for family. I have taken a picture for my own records.
I will do 12x12 for the immediate future as my dh bought me a starter kit containing a 12x12 album. Someone though (was it you?) said given the chance to start again, she'd do 6x6.

Yes I was planning to do this actually, but then forgot until you've just mentioned it. Doh!!
Is this technique also called matting? Or is that something different?
Danu :)
Yes sorry I thought it was a lo not a card:)
I like 8x8 :)
