Hi!
I've been playing more and more with my melt pot and I've been experimenting making embellies using play dough as a mold - I wasn't sure if it would work but I've tried it out a few times now and it works quite well so thought I'd pass it on.
I made quite deep impressions so left it a good 10mins to make sure it set then popped them out - some of the play dough sticks because it's so soft but it comes off easily rolling it in your fingers.
I've not tried many things yet mainly buttons and small embellies but anything that makes a good impression should work?
I'd love to see any other melt pot ideas/techniques anyones got - want to keep experimenting :D

I melt my UTEE on a piece of greaseproof paper then pour it into moulds from that. Start your heat gun high up so it doesn't blast everywhere then lower it when it starts to melt.

I started like that, also with a mince tart foil thing. However be very very carefull, I now have the scars to prove it
Great idea :)
Here's something for you to try:
Get an old CD (the sort that has been printed on, non-printed ones don't work for some weird reason). Cut it into nice shapes - ovals, circles, random.... you'll need to soften it first, best way of doing that is to stand half of it in a just of boiling water for a minute :)
Alcohol ink, stamp if you want to, pop into a melt pot of clear utee and put it somewhere flat to set. Looks fab! :D

Yes,I've done that. Fortunately I have asbestos fingers so it doesn't hurt me much.

Went to a demo today where Melt Pot was demo'd. I've seen it demo'd loads of times before and never wanted one. Today I do!

i've had my first experiments with my melt pot today and apart from burning my thumb i managed to make two pieces of jewellery that looke like dichroic glass, some clear buttons and some clear embelishments with some text embedded in them :)
also discovered you can get a spun sugar effect by drizzling the utee from up high so was wondering about melting some sugar in it to make sugar strands for desserts
and i've just been and ordered the biggest box of clear utee i could find :)

I made this the other week but just glued it all together now. I used a Sassafras owl stamp to stamp into the play dough and then poured in the UTEE, let it dry for about 15mins and then peeled it out and cleaned it up then painted it and rubbed it back a bit. Just made it into a pencil topper with a pom pom and the owl embellie glued on the end of a pencil with the glue gun. Really fun :)
I made a couple more stamped ones it's worth having a play with your stamps - some work better than others but what doesn't work you can re-melt.

I use my Aga baking sheets with my Melting Pot. The heat resistant sheet is heavier quality and larger than the one supplied by Ranger.

Have you checked on you tube?
I am sure one of Suze Weinberg's videos on there shows you how.

Tim demonstrates it on his DVD the journey continues I think.
You can also see videos of techniques on his blog

Suze Weinburg has a you tube video called Faux Sea Glass using UTEE and perfect pearls and a heat gun

I think it looks like Dichroic glass. You don't have to spray it with water at the end.

sorry harris march i just saw your post,
first i poured clear utee over rangers frosted memory glass, then i used stix 2 foil sheets that you can get in loads of colours and stuck that onto the warm utee, it textured it a bit using my tweezers and a spoon but you can just leave it on whole, i then reheated the utee with my heat gun which causes the foil to crackle before pouring more clear utee over the foil, when cool you can colour the back of the frosted glass with alcohol inks to make the finished piece any colour you want
i got the instructions from an old issue of craft stamper and i'm sure it's been posted on here before using sea glass but i couldn't find any sea glass so used the memory glass instead

I have been using a bag of clear embossing powder that I have had for years together with a tiny bit of Utee flex.
Where do you ladies buy your MP supplies from? I couldn't find any supplies online.
Glass microscope slides may be suitable to experiment with. I have a stock from a couple of years ago that need to be used. Shall tell you how this works.

Seen glass slides used in the MP on "you tube" edges dipped in silver Utee so you get faux soldering.
Craft at Home has lots of MP stuff & they are a sponsor on here. If you click on Shopping on the second red bar across on this page, their advert is on the right hand side. Just checked & they had loads in.

oohhh you've all made me want to get my melting pot out and have a play  ... thank you for some lovely ideas.
Also Cre8tive Online (http://www.cre8tiveonline.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=125)has a lot of products and uttee if you're interested. I remember seeing them a while ago

I've ordered from Craft at home, they are great and happy to answer any questions. I wasn't sure quite what I needed so phoned and got great advice.
Craft Obsessions stock melt art stuff too. They have a 1lb pot of UTEE which saves you about £6 on the equivalent small pots, I find I use quite a lot of it:D
