At the craft show in Harrogate last weekend there was a stall that samples of Stampoard pieces that had been covered in UTEE and they had cracks within it. The chap who had been demonstrating had gone away so I asked the girl who said to get the cracks they had bent the pieces:blink: Well, has anyone ever tried to 'bend' a piece of Stampboard. Well I have and couldn't so, I am wondering if she actually knew.
So, does anyone know how they would have got the cracks in the UTEE?
Thanks

Now that is what I thought, it was one of those things where I thought I had read it somewhere. I did give it a try last night, but maybe I didn't leave it in long enough, how long do you have to leave it in there?
I left it overnight - but that was on glass not stampbord, not that it would make much difference I wouldn't have thought. and the next morning it was all shattered. I put it in when it was still warm. not sure if you're supposed to. but it worked for me.

I asked the man at harrogate how to get cracks and he said wait until the UTEE as dried then drop it and if you get cracks you don't want reheat it and melt it again. Hope this helps I presume it's the same man curly hair and a beard, not sure if they are sponsors on here.

Thanks for that, I didn't actually see the man. I think I will try both and see what works best for me. I will let you know.

Haven't actually looked for any links but Glenda at Graphicus does some lovely things with Stampboard and I know she has some video's on Youtube. I think there are lots of demo's on there using Stampboard.
Anyway, I made another piece last night and after it's final layer of UTEE I dashed into the kitchen and popped it straight into the freezer. Checked it a few hours later and nothing so dropped it on the floor a few times - nothing. Put it back in the freezer overnight and still nothing! dropped it on the floor a few more times, banged it on the edge of the bookcase - NOTHING! not the tiniest crack:angry::(
SO does anyone have any foolproof methods of getting the cracks??
**ALISONX** do you happen to remember the name of the stall? and I will ring them if you do. Thanks
how odd, worked for me - although, like I said, it was on glass not stampbord, so maybe that makes the difference
maybe use ranger crackle glaze instead of UTEE?? although then again that needs to go on a porous surface, which stampbord isn't particularly....bit of porosity in the clay but not much.

Right, well the chap who did the demonstration has e-mailed me. He said he dropped his pieces on a hard floor - tried that - and also said about flexing it - has anyone tried to flex a piece of Stampbord?!.
I won't give up yet, but it is very frustrating. Maybe I need to stand on top of a ladder and drop it from there, or, maybe, go to the top of Blackpool Tower - do you think a piece of stampbord dropped from that height could kill someone though:blink:
could you tap it with a hammer maybe?

Try crackle glaze .... either the TH one, or the fabby one that Sarah from Sarahscards sells.
I personally wouldn't use UTEE with the intention of crackling it.
Not tried it, but I would imagine that if you froze it, and then gave it a whack with a hammer immediately after taking it out of the freezer, that might work.... maybe one of those old fashioned toffee/rock hammers?!

Tried hitting it with a hammer, and it did crack but not in a nice way!

Have looked at this, but I don't think it would give the same effect. On the pieces I saw they were large random cracks, and I didn't want to use acrylic paint, I was using inkpads in various colours and then stamping on top of that, then applying the UTEE, so you saw all the detail through the UTEE. It still did look nice I suppose without the cracks so I suppose I have have to be happy with that.
Ranger crackle accents is clear, it looks just like cracked utee
it's not the same stuff as the crackle glaze you put between 2 layers of paint
BUT it only works on a porous surface, I'm not sure if Stampbord would do the trick.

Have you tried using standard embossing powder rather than utee? It might crack a bit easier in the freezer if you just add a couple of layers.
