Jayne it depends on what you use to paint with ...

If you are using water based markers, paints, pencils then Stazon which is alcohol based is the write ink ... BUT, if you are using Promarkers, copics which are alcohol based then you need an inkpad like Impress ink which is water based! Whatever you use make sure that the ink has dried well! ;)

In the beginning I used the Stazon with the Promarkers ... but I use the brown stazon so the smudging is more like a blending ... LOL I've bought the Impress pads and these work better with the promarkers ...

I'm in love too Linda!

Hi ladies - can anyone recommend a good white cardstock that is available to purchase on line? Particularly for colouring with Promarkers and Copics. I was looking at a great blog buy Suznne J Dean where she shows her techniques with the copics. The cardstock she uses is Gina X (I think) but I can't find a UK stockist and the P&P from the states is waaaaaaay too much!! I have have quite good results with papermania, but from the cards etc that you all post here I think I could do better!! Thanks!!

I'm rather partial to bristol board at the moment, really bright white & super smooth. Anywhere that sells artist supplies should stock it. I think the winsor & newton pad is about £6 for 20 a4 sheets.

29-03-2009, 10:09 PM
Jayne the tria markers are more expensive because they have 3 nibs ... and I think they come in more shades ... I can find those locally and I have a couple ... but I feel that the ProMarkers are enough for what I want them for!

One nib is hidden under the other ... LOL ... Ingenious really ... these are used more by professional designers ... I knew of them way back when my cousin was studying interior design ... she still has her markers and they still work! :)

Fiona, I personal use a couple of papers the concord plain record cards are great to work on and are about 99pish for 100 4x6.
The paper I use the most is from Staples and is the mondi IQ intellegent 160grms finished paper and is about £7.99 for a ream and usually on buy 1 get 1 free. Hope that helps.

I know this is probably a silly question but can you order from the staples website, it seems to be geared up for buissness! plus, I can't seem to find it on the website. I have bee using Whisper White from SU but I would like to get something that is easier to order online. I have tried the concord paper but didn't have much luck :(

Hi, I've made a lot of cards but never one quiet like this one before. Lol. I'll be the first to admit I am no artist! I'm probably at the level of an average 10 year old. So not sure what to make of it. Or even if I like it. I used promarkers, aqua promarkers for the background, and some spica glitter pens. Which I love and used as highlighters. In fact I love all pens (have a major obsession with them... lol).

Emily, there are some things on the web which give hints for your colouring, I know what you mean with the darker colours though, I find if you use light colour as base, then shade with darker colour, then go over it with lighter colour again, several times, dragging to middle of image and it begins to blend nicely, practice on a scrap and see what effects you get!!

Go to http://copiccreations.wordpress.com/ it's a new challenge blog for Copic users.
On the first entry are some brilliant links to tutorials for colouring hair, skin, clothing etc. Suzanne Dean has made a few pdf docs with hair colours, that's quite useful. I've only tackled black hair once so far though, caramel blonde is the easiest IMHO!
Submitted cards should list what colours have been used to help guide you. Picking off the colour chart on your monitor is a nightmare, and looking at the colour of the pen lids in a shop is not much better!!

Are you using good card ?- you need a very smooth cardstock, I'm using Daler Rowney Bristol Board at the mo, and I'm happy with it.
Hope some of this is helpful!

I have made a colour chart for my pens and it lists the colours I then colour in the square with my pen going from the darkest to the lightest it can create. It is the best way to see the colour.
For paper I use the same for my prisma and copic from staples. The IQ mondi 160gms as long as your paper is smooth it shouldn't bleed. If anyone would like a copy just email me angeljakki@aol.com

I use the laser paper for most things copic, promarker & polychromo and only use bristol board when I need the extra weight. Like Jakki have made charts so I can see the colours and don't duplicate any purchases. I do get funny looks in my local art shop when I start fishing out different charts for each of my types of colouring mediums.

If anyone wants promarker charts I've got those as well as for copics.

Beautiful, beautiful carks Jakki and Marlene!!!! Can I ask you all a question - what comes first the colouring or choosing the paper and then colour to match? I couloured in a great little tilda (if I do say so myself!) in purple - but alas no purple papers - how can that be? Purple is my favourite colour!!!

angeljakki

CraftyCaz
24-04-2009, 08:25 PM
Fiona, I always did the same as you...and always ran into the same problem. You think you have loads of purple papers and then when you try to match them, you find they are a different shade to the image you have coloured. So now I choose papers and then colour....it is usually quicker...unless I just feel like colouring...

If it is thicker it is harder to cut out. It is thick enough to hold its shape when layering but thin enough to be a dream to cut out. What medium are you colouring with? Momento Tuxedo black works with copic and prismas rapidly has turned into my favourite ink thanks to Nikki.

If you are using prismas the stazon works great just let it dry for a few seconds or blast it with your heat gun. Enjoy

what are they supposed to retail at per pen

jayne

butterbee

The copics have a brush end whereas the Pro-markers are a bullet point - they both have a chizzle end - the copics retail for approx 1.99 each.

Totally correct and you can still refill the copic ciao and thats where you will save money. It is about £4 or £5 for the refills but they last ages. Thats the price for 25ml but you only refill about 2 or 3mls at each refill. The blender is the colours I use the most and the skin tone they are the only refills I have bought in the last yr that I have had mine and they do get used alot.

It is really hard when making your mind up as everyone has their own preference and it is so hard to make the right choice and then learn how to use whatever you choose when it arrives. I can honestly say that the copics for me a love them.

P.s Lovely Atc Caz

Lovely atc Caz.
Caz - you have obviously tried both promarkers and copics - why do you prefer the copics? I have about half the collection of promarkers and wondering if I should try the copics before I get any more?

CraftyCaz
06-05-2009, 12:37 PM
They are very similar. For me the main advantage of the Copics (I have the Ciao's) is that I have 143 colours plus a blender....over 91 ProMarkers.....the extra give you the depth and range in the colours....I find the ProMarkers are more limited in the pink colours....which are one of my fave colours...LOL

I would still recommend them to anyone.....I am just greedy and wanted more colours....LOL
Caz

JerseyScraps
06-05-2009, 12:44 PM
Thanks Caz. It is because of the limited colours that I started looking at the copics as it looked like there were more - pink is one of my faves too!! When I started I foolishly thought 1 or 2 in each colour would be fine...how stupid was I:lol:

CraftyCaz
06-05-2009, 12:51 PM
Same amount of stupid as me....LOL. I originally wanted the Copic sketch markers.....there are over 300 colours of them, and didn't want to settle for the Ciao's. But when I talked to people I found that they are the same as the Sketch ones...apart from they hold less ink and although they are refillable you can't use them with the airbrush system.....so in the end I got the Ciaos....and after colouring with Distress Inks for a while...I have enjoyed having more colours to play with again.

Ok will probably get shot for asking this (as a lady at the NEC became quite snooty with me when I said "promarkers and copics are similar aren't they? - I was asking whether they were both solvents - to explain to my mum the need for a non solvent based ink)...

Can you use them both together - do they not blend to each other - both being solvents?

*joanne*
06-05-2009, 11:32 PM
A certain auction sites has copic for £1.00 each if you buy 10 got 25 last week

I started off with pro markers then I tried copic. I like copic the best due to the brush end and range of colours

126933.. as I am HOPELESS with an ordinary brush.

Just shows you there is a market for everything, doesn't it.

This is my most recent bday card.

Made it for our little neighbour - he is 3 tomorrow. His mum told be he LOVES spiders - Gee hope I don't scare him with this big one. He is at the age where he is covered in bruises and bandaids because he climbs, runs, falls over all the time. Isn't this stamp perfect. I added some cute Mickey and Pooh bandaids inside the card. TFL Used QK Rev. spider and spider net. QK ant, grass, tag, bandaids, sign and Diesel for the 3.

Lots of new card on my blog and as my 2nd blog anniversary is just around the corner I will be back with blog candy in a few days. Ü

I finally got some different paper yesterday and played. YIPPPEEEE!! I finally got some images that look nice with my Copics. This was my last chance before selling them. I'm so glad I found something because it was such a waste of money otherwise.

I haven't turned any into cards yet, hopefully do some tonight and upload tomorrow.

Ooo - that's gorgeous! I love the colours.

I've seen this stamp recently on another and made me want it. I want it even more now!

This is my first card with copic markers. I feel so lame that it's taken 4 months to get to an image I like. The darn things are so hard to use I think. I had to cut this one out because I think I'm using too much ink and it bleeds at the edges where I've blended.

Still I'm pleased with the colour and I'm not a purple fan!

Very pretty Morag ...

We don't celebrate Halloween here, so I'm not really interested in those! LOL

I went for Merry Christmas Tilda, Tilda with Candy Cane, Tilda with Christmas presents, and Tilda with Candle.

I thought I would start early with these, because I have a feeling that by the time the new one will come out it will be too late for me to make cards with! ;)

Beautiful card Caz - I love the envelope idea!

I made a card for a couple of challenges (I'm having to double-up because I've short on time).
