I want to do a transparent layout on some papermania printed transparency which is really quite thick and I want to machine stitch on it. Has anyone done this before? Any tips? I have a bit to practice on but don't want to ruin the machine as its not mine!!

When sewing a lightweight and slippy fabric I've read that you can use a piece of tissue paper between the fabric and the machine foot to stop it moving around.

You'll probably want a larger needle and a longer stitch and go slow as it will probably move around. Next time I get my machine out to make a garment I'll have to try it.

You may need to alter the foot pressure and you can use various medium that tears away. Things like rip tear or any embroidery interfacing should be suitable. Use a fresh needle and if you have a walking foot, you may well manage without the interfacing/medium. Use a polyester thread rather than a cotton one, as they can rub up with friction against the acetate.

Thanks for the advice ladies, I managed to do it and was quite pleased with the outcome. I didn't find it too slippy but did have to alter the tension on the thread, I did find that the needle made big holes so had to go careful not to make a mistake! Thanks again x
