Hi,

I LOVE the books Tricha makes on Craft TV - she is always talking about 'book binding glue' - does anyone know if this is just PVA or if its something diffrent?

If its diffrent where can I get it?

Thanks....;)

It is different, but I have used PVA myself for some of the Craft TV projects where Tricia says to use the bookbinding glue.

If you google, you will find recipes for making your own (haven't actually tried it myself, though!) but I eventually got some at Ally Pally which is manufactured by Pinflair. Can't remember the retailer I got it from, though.

Thanks - I did google it and saw pinflare but wasn't sure if it was what I was looking for!

Will go searching again now - I even looked for some when I was in the states last week - but no luck :( At least I know what i am looking for now

Found this recipe for bookbinding glue

Bookbinding Glue
Materials:

1 packet (1/4 ounce) unflavored gelatin
3 TBSP boiling water
1 tsp vinegar
1 tsp glycerine

In a small glass bowl, dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water.
Add the vinegar and glycerin and stir.
To use, apply a thin layer of glue with a brush while it’s still warm.
Store glue in a sealed jar. It will keep for several months and eventually
it will begin to gel. When that happens, simply immerse the jar in a pan of
warm water to liquify.

This glue can be used for adhering cloth to cardboard, leather to leather
or making notebook and scrapbook binders.

The pinflair stuff (at least I think that is what I have had) is white and in a tub and looks remarkably like PVA - and doesn't smell like 'traditional' bookbinding glue, which whiffs a bit!

My tub of bookbinding glue has thickened, and doesn't spread so well, so I've started using PVA and it seems fine.

Rymans /Partners/Stationery Box or whatever they call themselves these days has packs of 20 foam brushes which work really well for this. The original cheap coloured ones I go 'ran' so I ended up with orange glue! These are dark grey foam and seem to be colour run resistant.

I use pva and a foam brush instead of bookbinding glue. I first used it beginning of last year and the project still looks good and is firmly stuck.

I am the same as sleepy, always have used pva glue. However you have to keep the glue very thin, unlike my first attempt

I have used fast tack glue on some projects,as it says it's fast, but it's not as wet as p.v.a. and it is very strong,s'pose it all depends on the project really.

I asked my LSS store to order me some, as one of their suppliers had it in their Catalogue.

I had some bookbinding glue that was made by "Make Me" a Kars company. I don't know if it was a dodgy pot, but it was really thick and was really awful to use. I now use the Pinflair stuff which is much thinner and I use it for most stuff. I get mine from Create and Craft when they have one of their p&p free weekends.

I bought some bookbinders glue in pellet form (just add water) from Altered Element. I haven't used it yet though.

if you join club scrap (which is free) you can then buy the book binding glue that tricia uses, i bought it last year along with the 3 x 14 clear grid ruler she also uses.

The coloured foam brushes are watercolour brushes-ie have pellets of paint inside-I made the same mistake!!

These weren't that fancy, they were just really cheap tacky ones from the works, designed for kids! It was naff coloured foam which wasn't colour-fast. The new ones are great, they seem like the MM ones I have seen.
