This isn't official advice, but I have found that if you reinstall the CR but say 'Yes' when asked if you have a barcode on the back of the machine, then it installs a different version of the software which allows fonts to be entered in PT size.
I can find no difference other than that, and it didn't ask for any details from the barcode, just did I have one or not.
