View Full Version : Art Stamps - Newbury, July

Hi All
Anyone planning on going to this? It was very good last year for suppliers and number of stalls.
The catering facilities left a lot to be desired, very little choice, long queues, many things had run out and there was not nearly enough seating. It was a huge room and I think there were only tables out in less than a third of it.
Have emailed them suggesting more seating for cropping.
In spite of the whinges though, would definately recommend it. There are outside seats for picnics too if the weather is good (think it was even covered over for shade) and the entry price is very reasonable.
Details below.

I missed this one last year for the first time - I will definitely be there this year, it's my favourite of all the shows.
I had a jacket spud there once which was nice, but I think packed lunch is the best route

Living in somerset... its hard to get your hands on the best crafting goodies... the show for me seemed to have a bit of everything which is great..
My fav item at the show was bazzill card..... hard to find here...
probably best way to find craft shows is to have a peep in the craft magazines

Bev, for scrapping it's the best I've been to so far. Allypally was good for numbers of stands but they're too close together so it gets very crowded. Newbury is more spread out. The Sew and Scrap at Olympia didn't have that much for scrapbooking (IMO) compared to those two others.
HTH
Sam :)
hmmm - as someone who doesn't scrapbook, and who hasn't been to Newbury for a couple of years, I'm beginning to wonder if it's still going to be my cup of tea....
please tell me it still is mainly stamps? they are what I go for really...

Not that we are exhibiting this year, but normally at least 60% of your stand should be stamps...so hopefully you will be alright :)
pange
03-06-2008, 04:22 PM
everybody has to sell their own stamps to have a stall so even if they sell other things they still have to have some stamps.
oooh glad some dates have been confirmed!! As I live on the doorstep, it seems rude not to pop along for half a day or so. :) I've normally found plenty to spend my money on!!
It is predominantly stamping although last year there were a couple of stands also sold scrapbooking paper (virtually no-one did in 2006 so came away really disappointed). Hopefully there'll be a few more this year.
Does anyone know if "Art from the Heart" going to be there this year???

Are we having a crop circle picnic again this year?

Can do - would give us all a chance to compare purchases!!

yesssss please
if you're having a picnic it'd be rude of me not to come! Seeing as I can see the racecourse from my bedroom, it's about as local as I'm going to get!!
picnic sounds good :)
I'll be there on the Saturday
(me and Jen can bore you all talking about ice hockey - yay :) )

And I can make the date this year :)
Well done for volunteering to organise this karen
Anna x
it'll be all finished by then too - but only just - I'm having it finished on the Wednesday before Newbury. It'll just be starting to scab :D
(me and Jen can bore you all talking about ice hockey - yay :) )
No you won't ... I followed the Bees up and down the country in the 1990's ... and then work got in the way. The Bees/Bison matches were never to be missed. Must go back and see a game before too much longer!!
yay - another hockey fan :)
the Bees have had a good couple of years - although no longer in the same league as the Bison, who are now up in the Elite with the likes of Belfast and Coventry, whereas your Bees are in the EPL with my Wildcats...
you should definitely go give them a visit :)

We'll be exhibiting at Newbury again this year.
We'll have the inspiration Jane Gill demo'ing for us using the Art Impressions stamp range.
Shame Paul (clevercuts) won't be there! You'll be missed!!
See you all there......

:o Our workshops are 3,4 and 5 and you will make 2 cards and a 3d item, or with workshop 5 it's a scrapbook page and card, I think there has been a typing error because it does sound like you only make one card.
Definately no Gold but Dazzling Diamonds......it's a fab glitter!

I'm doing one of the workshops - and it's much more than one card!
B)
I'm doing a workshop called beautiful backgrounds: everyone will make a card with sweeties in a pocket inside, a 6" monochrome layout (which has a card alternative), there's a demo on one sheet wonders and you also make a party favour with jelly babies. You also get a free goody bag with the sponsor's catalogue (worth £5.95) and a voucher for £5 and three hand made goodies and a techniques booklet.
I think that's quite good value as the goody bag alone is worth over £11 !
B) B) B)
See you there :P (I'm saving up some pennies to spend when I get some time off the stand for good behaviour!)
What's on your shopping list everyone???

I am hoping to get some of the small pads of basic grey papers and some cricut mats. I'd quite like some dinosaur stamps too.
:-)
I'm kind of hoping that there won't be much there to tempt me - as I'm skint - and given that none of my favourite retailers are going to be there, I might be in luck :)
I usually sign up for Craft stamper there as they have a better sub offer at the show than in the mag, plus I'm interested to find out more about Jane Pinders new guild thingy. Other than that, I might even come away empty handed (famous last words!)

Hi everyone, just made arrangements to go on Saturday - totally skint but a day out if nothing else....
Not been before so anyone got any advice?
Have fun!!
My tip would be to take a bottle of water and your lunch with you! The queues for food the first two years I went were horrendous and the food certainly wasn't worth the wait. I took a packed lunch last year so can't tell you what the queues etc were like. I don't think there were refreshments on sale downstairs.
There is normally an ice-cream van parked outside the main entrance though.

Skint too - but like you say - a grand day out ! Packing chocolate and water ! Do I need anything else ? Cash would be nice ! I'll be the one looking into my empty wallet and sighing a lot !
Had to do a mad dash around the show today as in-laws are down and didn't feel I should be out for long.
Still managed to spend some money though ... especially as someone was selling those little mini alphabets that the Paper Mill sell (but have completely sold out!).

Poor you! I arrived at the lifts while one was stuck on the ground floor so you must have been on the other side? I ended up using the stairs instead. This happened to me once years ago and it's not an experience I'd care to repeat - we had to climb out. :(
I didn't really find anything I'd gone for but did stock up on card and found a stamp I wanted but wasn't looking for, and a couple of other things I hadn't known I needed! I was able to sit and do a couple of free make and takes (one with one of my favourites - Stamp Addicts ) which were fun and bliss for my poor old knees. Oh - and I managed a few ATC swaps too.

Spent far too much on papers, ribbons & stamps & treated DD to a trimmer.
Have to say it was bigger than I expected and will go again next year!

Pange, Anna & Karen - thanks for your words of encouragement about attending the Hermitage crop. Think I will be taking the plunge in next few months & looks like I shall be attending alone afterall, lol! I am sure to spend a fortune (that I don't have!) if there is a shop there....uh ohhh!
I enjoyed the show @ Newbury. Didn't stay too long. Got there as early as possible to try and beat the crowds. It's not a great deal of fun with an 18 months old in tow but my sister did come and help out (I paid for her to go in as bribery hehe I told her it was a 'craft show' so she thought there was jewellery, cross-stitch & suchlike there so she agreed to come lol well I didn't correct her in case she changed her mind!!)
Did make a few purchases of some lovely papers, am embellishment set, some templates and a storage box, wooo :D
Not sure if any of you saw me, I was not hard to miss as I was pushing my son on his trike and getting on everyone's way *woops*

There was hardly any scrapbooking the first time I went
to Newbury, I always think of it as a cardmaking show more. I thought Farnborough or Alexander Palace was more scrapbooking.

I have to agree, loved the sizzix stand where I bought more alphabets even though I haven't used all the ones I've got, but was disappointed not to find some Bazzill cardstock or more modern stamps - particularly wanted some journalling ones. Did get a really good price on some Adirondack Dabbers - I'm a dabbers convert.
Would probably give it a miss next year in favour of the Ally Pally one.
