This is going to sound like a really silly question but how have you paid for scrap-a-ganza in Stratford? I am trying to book myself on but don't want to shell out another £12.50 to pay through paypal. Will I have to go into my bank and do it there, will I still be charged for doing it that way?

Thanks.

You can do a bank transfer but you will be charged by your bank for sending money to an overseas account. You need to check with your bank their charge, but I expect it will be more than €12.50. The SAG account info can be found when look at your invoice.

Last time I did a similar transfer (priority payment) I was charge approx. £20.00! It is something that the bank needs to arrange for you, and not usually done my yourself via internet banking, like you would a bank to bank transfer in UK.

Our bank wanted to charge something like £21 for direct transfer so in the end I paid by paypal. Wouldn't it have been easier for them to set up a UK account eh?

I'd imagine the transfer fee would be charged for each different country, that's a lot of bank accounts to set up.

the charge is not levied because it is a payment to another country. It is because the type of paypal account needed to accept payments by direct debit (funded from bank) and credit cards which is how most of us pay, charges a % of the amount paid (3.4% + 20p i believe) so it is easier for them to set a set charge amount (£12.50) as an average for each person to pay instead of having to work out for each individual how much they need to add on to their payment to cover the paypal fees.
You have to have a paypal account which accepts ready funds only from other accounts in order not to pay any fees.

Well, here's a great piece of news! Heidi, Michelle and I have put our heads together and come up with a way to maybe make it a bit easier for the Stratford ladies. We have arranged it so that you now have the option to pay by cheque.

Register on the site, choose your classes, print off your invoice and send it off with a cheque. Your invoice will show as paid once your cheque has cleared. But as cheques can take a while to clear the sooner this is done the better.

For those of you who wish to do this then pm me once you are ready to send off your cheque and I will give you the details.

Hope this helps.

hi-

just want clarify some info about payment -

If you want to send a cheque or use "normal" switch payment or whatever you call it, Michelle Grant has agreed to let us use one of her accounts. So, if you send a cheque it needs to be sent to Michelle, preferable made out to Michelle or the inner UK bank transfer method.

The comment made on paypal is correct. We get charged a percentage and we have just take an average, in our disadvantage by the way, just to keep invoicing simple.

Unfortunately, setting up a UK account from the Netherlands is NOT easy, but if we do more events we will simplify the payment method. It is just that is also an investment and we want to see how the first one goes. And that's not only for registrations, but the fact we have to bring all the kits on the ferry, etc, etc. I think we have it worked out, but there are always those unforeseen happenings!!!!! (stress, stress). But, that is also the reason we do Holland first, so at least all the kinks in the workshops have been worked out! A test run, as it were... with more than twice as many people, LOL!

Thank you for the clarification, the Bossy one. I am happy to pay the paypal charges but as I was going only for 1 day, £12.50 as a percentage was a bit steep so I was looking for a better way to pay. Didn't realise it was difficult for you to set up account here, I guess it is a case of European Union only when it suits the politician huh ?

Thanks Julie for working out an alternative payment method. I am sorry I didn't take you up on that offer...just sounds like too much effort if I have to post something off :P, I am that lazy!

Thank you for organising an alternative. I am going for one afternoon only so felt the charges were a bit steep (would have preferred to use that extra money for an extra class). I will be sending off my cheque tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Sorry I booked early now as I am only going for one day the £12-50 could have gone towards an extra class.

I paid by cheque back in March to the Netherlands address on the Scrapaganza website, but that published address was not correct. Due to this, my cheque went astray and I had to put a stop on it. Then I sent another cheque to a different address they gave me. It has now been received but they are charging me a £12.50 fee for it. Is this correct??
